My post was more for Pezzy, we tend to go back and forth on the Canucks vs Laughs Leafs thing, sorry for the unintentional slight.

I see there is some talk about the NHL coming back to Winnipeg. Lets hope so, its too good a town not to have a team.

wow! I feel like so unprepared now. I got a tool kit, oil, couple gallons of winshield washer fluid, some jumper cables, clean pair of clothes and shoes, skoal (and a good spit cup), and my cell phone and charger so in case I get stuck I can holler at the boys to come get me out...I do use the helpless little girl routine when I need too...

I have an off brand [hi-lift], but as MZ pointed out... nothing to use it on withough resulting in damage. Unless you use it as a winch

Idk... i find my hi lift to come in extremely handy. I've never had to use it on the pathy, so i guess i can't really say anything about that, but it got my friends Jeep out of a tough place last fall, when we were stuck in some tough snow.... Leather gloves, a couple fold up shovels, and a small regular shovel definitely comes in handy.

Deep snow + no winch + screw you dude, i'm not getting stuck too = use the hi-lift! :D

For those of you that want to take a HiLift with you. I took a peice of steel bent it and mounted it to my rear hitch mount just in front of my bumper. Works pretty good but, you have to watch your shins if you don't get it out of the way before loading or unloading.

You guys have a pretty complete list here. I take a generator along as well and sometimes a trailer full of spare parts for base camp just in case.

Some people have said GPS. But, I always carry a liquid filled compass in case all else fails.

Maybe the only thing I can add to this list is fishing line and hooks in case your out there a while.

Or, tire chains are always nice for extra traction.

On my Jeep I have a mounted winch. For the pathfinder, I have a portable winch (busted cable right now from stump pulling).

I still take the portable with me along with the good old come-a-long.

Always in the rig, or mounted on it:

fire extinguisher

Warn xd9000

MagLites (2) w/spare batteries

first aid kit

jerrycan with gas

knife

vehicle safety kit w/flares, space blankets, etc.

For the usual backcountry trip, I'll add:

tool kit

spare battery

spare belts

oil

washer fluid

chainsaw w/gas

gloves

bungie cords

nylon rope

20' of chain w/clevis hooks

15,000lb tow strap

rags

TP (actually, this never really leaves the rig!)

sleeping bag

MREs, snacks, and water

snatch block

Sig P229

During hunting season I'll have my hunting gear, along with a 20- and a 16-gauge with plenty of ammo. For backcountry snowboarding I'll have my boards and gear, plus some extra cold weather survival stuff: warmer bag, four-season tent, camp stove, etc.

very useful info..... though I sometimes have to take my pathy to an extremely urban area like NYC where if you leave a screwdriver on the seat it could be a cause for someone breaking your window ( has actually happened)

How do I hide all this stuff? or maybe I just have to clean out the car when entering this urban jungle with its potholy roads that in itself is no match..

These are some really comprehensive lists here, so I wont go over what has already been mentioned, but here's my 2 cents:

1. Most of you mentioned first aid kit. Make sure you can get to it fast. seconds matter, so for me this is the most important piece of equipment in my Truck. Here in Australia, I'm a Paramedic (EMT I think some of you American blokes call us), & in my line of work, the time it takes you to get to your equipment & also what you have is paramount. So a couple of things on the First aid Kit.

a. Make sure all your stock is accessible & not stacked on top of each other. When you need anything more than a Band Aid, you need it fast.

b. Make sure all your stock is 'IN DATE', out of date stock can fail. More often than not it doesnt, but some do.

c. GLOVES! Usually your only barrier of infection control. Use them. Double Glove if you need to.

d. If you have the money, buy a Defibrillator. They're really REALLY easy to use, but worth ~$5000 AUD. For me, a person's life is worth that much. I carry one in my Truck.

One last thing. Hi Visibility Vest I dont think was mentioned, These are Dirt Cheap. In Australia these are Tax free, so they're worth peanuts from any Safety Shop. Safety First. If you get injured, then you're not much use to anyone.

Hope this helps.
