  1. Check yor battery cables, esp. if you're running extra lights, winch, etc. I burned out two alternators due to corrosion in the cables. Because of the corrosion the alt wasn't fully charging the battery, so after a while the extra electrical load in my rig killed the overworked/underpowered stock alternator and the vehicle would just die when the battery ran out. I replaced the first alt thinking that was the problem, but when the second one died six weeks later I started checking the rest of the system.
  2. I had to sell my 95 SE last fall, and have just started looking for a "new" one. Mine was a 5-speed and I'd like to find another, but most of the ones I'm seeing for sale have automatic trannies. What is everyone's opinion on the whole manual versus auto thing?
  3. Always in the rig, or mounted on it: fire extinguisher Warn xd9000 MagLites (2) w/spare batteries first aid kit jerrycan with gas knife vehicle safety kit w/flares, space blankets, etc. For the usual backcountry trip, I'll add: tool kit spare battery spare belts oil washer fluid chainsaw w/gas gloves bungie cords nylon rope 20' of chain w/clevis hooks 15,000lb tow strap rags TP (actually, this never really leaves the rig!) sleeping bag MREs, snacks, and water snatch block Sig P229 During hunting season I'll have my hunting gear, along with a 20- and a 16-gauge with plenty of ammo. For backcountry snowboarding I'll have my boards and gear, plus some extra cold weather survival stuff: warmer bag, four-season tent, camp stove, etc.
  4. I have all my filters for content and addresses disabled already. Ya know, for porn! /sarc
  5. Wow, thanks! MZ I use Internet Explorer; Dag, work doesn't block anything; and Slick, there is a big empty box with a red "x" next to your link for Slick's Pics. I'll try right-clicking on some things and see if that works.
  6. Nice. I pulled out a roll of aluminum foil, pulled off about fifteen feet of it, and doubled it up until I had a square about a foot across to cover the hole (which was about an inch across). When I got home I had a guy cut out about 12" of rusted floorboard and weld new steel in its place. No more fires.
  7. Sweet! I have a friend in Australia right now; she's not a wheeler, but gets out into the backcountry to camp, climb, etc. She's headed over to NZ in a few months.
  8. Hi, this is probably a ridiculous question, but... I'm having problems viewing about 80% of the images posted on various threads. Where there should be big, beautiful images of Pathys, I get a box with a small red "x" in the upper corner. I'm using a 6mo-old Dell inspiron 1501 with Windows XP Pro. I'm guessing I need a software download of some kind... does anyone have any idea which one? Thanks for any info!
  9. No way... I had the same fire. Driving down I-95 on the way back from a bird-hunting trip, the cab begins to fill with acrid smoke. I pull over, thinking "ENGINE FIRE!!!", pop the hood but can't find anything. I get down underneath the engine, then underneath the cab, but still can't find anything (the smouldering carpet liner has gone out - lack of air because I'm stopped). After about ten minutes, I begin driving again, and ten minutes after that the carpet under my gas pedal bursts into flames. At the same time my brain is saying "So THAT'S what it was!" I'm pulling over while attempting to pop the release on my fire extinguisher, located behind the center console. After putting the fire out, I cut out a big square of carpet and saw the rust hole. Funny, the hole under the gas pedal looked just like the two holes under the rear seat that I fixed the year before!
  10. Thanks. She had 247,000 miles on her when I had to sell... frame and body rust (in all the trouble spots), a dead clutch and electrical problems became too much. The SE is a great rig, hence the search for another one.
  11. Thanks guys. TerranoNZ you live in a BEEE-YOOO-TI-FUL country. Someday, I will do some fly-fishing and snowboarding there!
  12. New member from Maine here. Sold my '95 Pathy SE last fall. She was a good rig; bought her new in 95, and used her as a daily driver/sometime backcountry vehicle with no mods other than large tires. I started adding a few things a couple of years back: Warn xd9000, brush guard, warn hubs, skid plates, and some other minor mods. In the next few months I want to buy another 95 SE and modify it for a full-time backcountry machine... I plan on a 2-3" lift, suspension and engine mods, winch and bull bar, and the like. This site rocks, and I can't wait to pick some brains for technical info and general know-how. I have a lot of respect for you guys! I'm in the information-gathering phase right now, so I send thanks/apologize in advance for what may become a whole lotta questions.
  13. I just sold my 1995 SE. That thing would go ANYWHERE... and that's with minimal aftermarket stuff. I'm currently looking for another one.
