  1. i was using the search bar to look for a thread on electric rad fan installs and i came back across this. I had 0 pre wire for towing and i bought a used brake controller thing like the curt box from a used auto parts junk yard. i got that box, the 7 pin plug and about 5 feet of the wire for 20 bucks. i had none of that quick connect stuff as i had to cut all factory wire and krimp my self. I started at around 9 or so and finished by 2:00 same day even with lunch break. All i have now is light working, the 12 wire is ran but not hooked up and my blue brake wire is ran to behind my dash. I just thought id revisit this thread to say that i have no idea you spent so long getting it to work but i do agree that the engineers should rot in the hottest part hell as it was pain to take it all apart but i have only broken about 5 clips. I hope this makes you fell better and to any one reading this it really is a b**** to do so just pay someone 20 bucks and a beer to do it.
  2. yeah wait a day or 2 and if no one else replies they either are not sure or agree lol have fun trying to get away with only hand brake
  3. im not an expert at this but if the specs are the same and mounting is the same then i dont see what the issue would be. All of the yards near me with pathfinders all have either dash, cats, lights, doors, powered door locks or intakes ripped off of them but never really anything with brakes. I would say personally that if i were looking i would just find as close to or better then the oem that matches mounting and specs as the old one.
  4. im definetly planning on getting a brake controller as i would be terrified to tow anything behind that, that isnt a flat deck aluminum trailer.
  5. the manual r50 manual is 3500 and the auto is the same as the wd21 from what i can remember and high way speed here is normally 4th gear never really 5th especially in the mountains.
  6. that makes me feel better knowing you tow with the manual. That is a pretty heavy trailer and yes i have stock suspension. I have yet to finish the bumper with the hitch and test out towing my trailer but i suspect it should be fine. Just wanted to gather opinions on this vehicle and how it handles it
  7. if youve seen my picture and now you know around what my weight is (and almost likely going to be lighter since my company builds these things out of steel and were moving to aluminum), do you think ill have an issue with that what so ever or should i be alright for the most part?
  8. I am in the midst of building my own rear bumper with a trailer hitch and this vehicle has never had one even touch it. Its the 97 SE with 4x4 manual trans. I got curious as to what towing with this vehicle is like (if any of you have) and what should i watch out for with this car. I have towed things before but not with something of this size (i.e 6.0 f250 and 08 armada) so it is not new to me but with something this small it is. Does this year of pathfinder have any issues towing and more importantly what is the towing like with this manual trans. I live in the mountains and most of my trailers have some weight to them so i am worried about the clutch. The heaviest trailer that will be pulled is between 1300-1650 lbs, as that is my current camping trailer. Pros and cons of towing with this vehicle and how well does it do with towing - mainly around my trailer weight. Thanks. EDIT: This is the trailer that is heaviest, and probably the biggest that will ever be behind me https://imgur.com/a/mEU9kd9
  9. i was thinking that too if it was even possibly. and yeah those bottom plates where the cruise control is. theres another what looks like removable plate on the other side so if i could find something for there that would be cool
  10. but it is possible to get something that fits there meant for this year of pathfinder?
  11. The other day I installed a new head unit after years of it being missing (stolen) and it has the steering control wire. My little brother then pointed out on the side of the steering wheel there’s a little cover where the button piece could go. Did pathfinders come with these little radio controls on the steering wheels or can I buy an aftermarket thing for them? It’s a 97 SE.
  12. the one that gets me is the trailer light switch. thats just matched with the headlight switches normally
  13. All the pathfinders have to have a timing belt replacement so thats not really much in an issue, unless they vehicle hasnt had a change in a long time then it is. Other then that its just basic maintenance every few years
  14. dont get me wrong my 97 is absolutely amazing (and arctic cold ac) they have great handling and lots of room and power, i just love the look of the r51's so much. i would never give up my 97 r50 but man would i love a second one to be the newer r51
  15. everytime i see a 2011 or any r51 i get jealous because im in love with them. maybe my second pathy will be one lmao. looks like a good mount
  16. id totally be down to drive down but then i would have to bring my trailer, which is cheaper then a hotel. i gotta pay gas so it would be harder if its farther then whats close to my boarder (british columbia)
  17. if thats what can be read thats all thats there is actually all i need. so i can now continue with my project. Now all i gotta do is figure out where to mount it out of sight so it doesnt get stolen and also isnt in the way of my 1,3 and 5th gears lol
  18. are those all what the vg33e can show? or is that just what the bluedriver shows? and also look into raspberry pi's. you do have to do some stuff your self to make it work but theyre excellent little computers that can do a lot and the same company also makes a 7" touch screen. This is what im looking into and is why i started this thread in the first place.
  19. My pathy is from alberta too. I dont love in calgary anymore but yeah. BC is just as bad if not more filled. Liking the dirtjumper though
  20. actually what year is your pathfinder and also whats the info that your app shows you besides codes?
  21. what im going to use is one of my raspberry pi's and the touchscreen thing they make and i was going to mount that somewhere, i was going to use the obd2 port to live read to it but now see this im not sure it would be worth it if theres next to nothing that shows up
  22. shoot. so id be better off installing my own sensors and making a control panel of what i want then huh. well thanks for the info man
  23. so how do i get the same info from the obd2, but also more from the nissan port. Im trying to make a live reading tool thats always plugged in and i was going to use an obd2 to usb and tunerstudio to do this but if i can get more i would love to know how. But again has to be for linux because of the hardware im using
