Bad wheel bearing?

Just make sure that the wheel has a back spacing of 3.75 inches. Other wise the top corners of your tires will rub the hell out of the lower spring perch of your struts.

Really? Check the lower spring perch on the strut and use your fingers to feel if the spring has been seated properly. There is an obvious indentation where the coil end should be matched up to the perch itself.

Check that the spring has been seated properly. Also, if you can hear the noise turning the steering wheel full lock from driver to passenger and back could indicate a bad bearing.

I have the 15x8" and don't have any issues other than I can't keep her clean any more with that back spacing. (if you want to call that an issue)

I agree. 9.3 mpg is very bad. I did a tune up this past summer and average 15.8 mpg's (with mostly highway speeds and my manual hubs unlocked).

Had a friend weld on the "new to me" j/y muffler. Sounds pretty cool too!

Seems to me that you have everything in order. The R50's did come with rake. The rear springs aren't that difficult. The fronts will need to be compressed (I'd go with good ones, stay away from the "cheaper" tool)

Huh? Mine has a black box attached there that says "Hitachi" and "chikmagnet". I think it's broken though, all it attracts is mud.

I did a quick internets search and came up with a lot of catilic converter issues. It seems that when the cats heat up they "clog" the exhaust system. Here in South Carolina we can cut them out as we don't have inspections (I'm not sure about PA). I don't have a clue, just trying to shoot some ideas/options. Oh, and good luck with the TOTM .. you got my vote!

I think that you have a good idea to have a properly trained mechanic take a look at it if you are not sure where the noise is coming from. Please keep us updated.

Where did you go wheeling around Charlotte? There is a white '96 at the "U-Pull-It" in Rock Hill that has a good front end. I'd be more than happy to meet you there to pull some parts off of it?

Yeah, I keep a pipe wrench with me now just for this reason. I spent the night on a mountain side by myself because I didn't have a wrench large enough to spin it off. Had the part, couldn't get it off!

Exactly. I connected the ground wire to the mounting bolt and used a wire butt to connect the positive leed. The install was as simple as removing the Nissan part to installing the GM horn. They even used the same 10mm bolt!

We all wish for that! I too have never messed with drum brakes. I'm going to follow this thread closely.
