  1. I know this is an older topic, but try meguirs #17 plastic cleaner
  2. We're going out to Pomona next weekend and watch the big boys run will probably pick up the oil and water trmp out there if the price is right, going to try and stay with autometer.
  3. My pins and bushings came in yesterday and installed with no probs, then had to road test its so nice not to have it rattle back there
  4. replaced the fuel pump/ sending unit on the 88 trying to get the fuel gauge to read more accuratly. While at the dealer getting the Oring I saw they were have a special on oil filters buy 2 get the 3rd 1 free, so will give them a try.
  5. I installed a pair from a 97 QX4, if I remember I had to enlarge the hole where the shaft goes up. As to the wiring I tapped into the the dome lite which also feeds the map lights. The brackets that holds the ends had to be moved slightly, you'll have to drill a couple of holes all in all it was a pretty simple install and the wife really likes the double visor. I picked the visors up at the same time I got the console and shifter, and the QX4 emblem now sits in the lower left corner of my rear hatch window
  6. It's a good idea to run the A/c about once a week for abot 10 minutes or so to keep everything lubed in the system. the only time I've ever had to add any to mine was when the hi side line blew or I converted the system over. Also I drilled out the pin holes on the tire carrrier and tapped them for 6 mm zerks which won't be able to stay in but at least I'll be able to lube the heck out of them
  7. your bushing # should be E7247-41G60 instead of E247-416G0, my parts guy showed me the mistake today. Anyway I'm half done with mine just waiting for the parts thanks for all the info
  8. Am I glad my 88 is a Ca. pathy I ordered the pins and bushing for the tire carier today, and decided to tear it down it only took about 45 minutes to pull the carrier and knock out the pins and bushings. I did have a slight prob with last of the bushings , but a 12 mm 3/8s socket and a 4 inch extension fit perfect to knock it out. After hearing some of the stories about frozen pins I was sweating it
  9. Ask your uncle to come in and explain how he chipped the ecu, I'm sure some of us would give it a try, hell I'd be extremly happy to even get my milage up in the 20s
  10. My 88 with 240,000 plus miles autotragic, 31-10-50 15s, light bar with those big a$$ bosch lights, on the freeway running between 2700 and 3000 rpm speed is between 70 and 75 mph I get just a tad over 15 mpg. Before I mounted the light bar I was averaging close to 17 mpg speed is not by the speedo but 2 different gps sure wish I could get milage in the 30s
  11. my 69 CJ5 had the 225 v6 which willys had got from gm it was orig[nally in the buick
  12. Nice write up, now we know what to do when we run ours from the piller pod
  13. well the speaker grill is going to have to be modified or it sticks up about a 1/4 inch, the gap at the top possibly could be covered if you slide the pod up as far as it will go, also I think it will be solid enough with just the 2 screws, also the bottom screw hole can be a bitch to drill. When I get the guages in I'll possibly try and heat the panel to form it a little better, its not that noticable with the door closed. Of course no one here in town had an oil pressure or electrical temp gauge so I'm going to order them on line. All in all I think it going to be ok
  14. Thanks I'll look around and see if I can find any
  15. Well I drove over this afternoon to Orange county and picked up the one the 3xbrits ordered for their 96, think I'm going to try and either epoxy or try some plastic welding and add the top and bottom clips plus the screws. Gauges, oil pressure for sure, maybe a vacuum guage to remind me to keep my foot out of it, and prob a water temp I've never trusted my temp gauge' Overall it doesnt look bad, we'll see how it goes
  16. If your still interested we can make it on the 3rd of Feb
  17. you might try checking the vacuum to the servo
  18. Maybe I was lucky, or maybe it was the car mentality of So Ca, but after spending almost 35 years as a mechanic/technician with ford and datsun/nissan about the worst thing I can remember was when one of the San Diego lifeguards drove their hardbody around a jetty that they thought they could get around at low tide. When the truck came into the shop you could see where the water level had been half way up the instrument cluster. luckly for San Diego they leased the vehicles for $1.00 a year and everything was covered by warranty. One other thing about the early 21s they had very little cover over the ecu and when a lifeguard got into the truck after a rescue or what ever the saltwater would seep through the seat and shortly afterwards we'd be replacing an ecu and wiring loom, we quickly learned to bag and tape the ecu and loom to keep the saltwater out. SHEESH more ramblings of an old man
  19. Not only rats but ground squirrels as well, my neighbor had over $600.00 worth of damage done to their exploder chewed up wiring
