  1. also anyone thinking of doing this to a 2 door, the 2 door headliner is a bit wider then the 4 door, so save the 4 door liner and you can trim the 2 out for a decent match. I did it on my 88, and yes you want to get that front brace
  2. Make sure you get the right one, count the pins on the back of the switch, most are 4 pin but some are 3 pin. I've found both, in fact I installed a 3 pin in my 88 when I fried the stock switch
  3. My first job was at13 as kennel boy at the veterinarian where my mother worked, working after school and weekends. 18 years mostly with ford dealerships, 17 years at Datsun/Nissan dealerships. Retired now and just working parttime at the RV park I live in, working security in fact I'm at the front gate now until midnite
  4. here's a tool that makes removing fuel lines from filters a lot easier it;s made by Lisle and the part # is 47900, it can also be used on some vacuum lines. I'm sure snapon matco and mack all carry their own version
  5. there's a thread in here about the stock tweeters and it was reccomrnded to change the the diode? on the tweeter, I installed the stock ones in my 88 and did the mod. edit to add I also removed the rear side speakers and installed the rear overhead ones
  6. before you tighten the nut on the alt shaft make sure the pulley lines up with the belt, I had to space mine out. When I did the QX4 console in my 88 I pulled the front seats, made it easier to reposition the p brake, and to notch the console for the seatbelts. depending on how many switches you have in your console you might have to move 1 or 2 of them.
  7. there's still Riverside, San Bernadino, and Hesperia to check. I might do them next week
  8. Drove 173 miles hit 3 pickaparts looking for a inst cluster for the 88, the only thing I came up with was a fuel gauge out of a hard body the tach was broken and so was the speedo and the cluster didn't look that good.. Sure wish I could have used the whole thing I like the 1/4 fuel gauge but it would have been too much in mods to fit in my cluster, so I modded the fuel gauge, didn;t see 1 2door every pathy I spotted had the round dash. Guess it's time to start thinking about going with the later dash
  9. Damm the local picka part hit me $30.00 each for 4 but at least I got the center caps with them, plus they charged me $2.00 a wheel to dismount the tires. Oh I pulled the cat on the 88 and it looks like it has some blockage, I just might leave it off as it doesnt haved to be smogged til 2014 edit to add picked up a pair of Hankooks, so now the 88 has great tread on all 4 corners
  10. with 2 pathys I hit the pickaparts a couple times a month, I know as they get older, parts are going to be harder to find, so I'm slowly stockpiling parts for them.
  11. with my 94 SE 3.0 5 spd I'm averaging 17 1/2 to 18 freeway driving between 70 and 75 mph. If I'm out of ca for a couple of tanks of fuel the milage will go up by about a mile and a half. I hate Ca. gas
  12. Now I'm going back 20+ years, but as I remember we were told by our DSM it could be towed all 4 on the ground if the transfer was in neutral, but don't take my word as law. Although we did tow our 87 all over and we towed the 88 down into Baja a couple of times with no probs. A little PS something in the back of my mind is saying there was a 200 mile limit? on towing without stopping
  13. My bad I should have said store, I do all my own work thanks for the answer
  14. I see your in Fontana, do you have a shop there, if so an addy ? I'm down in Elsinore
  15. I'm about 20 miles from there, but my pathys are an 88 and a 94 no luck for me :(
  16. Back in the late 60s a group of us from the dealership used to go out there for a weekend of fishing but things have really changed since then. Now we just drive by and never stop where else can you play in the desert, play in the snow in the mountains. and go to the beach all in the same day
  17. Thats what I figured about that plastic hose, I was planning on replacing it tomorrow. Running between 2750 and 2800 on a level road it's hitting about 8 to 10 inches speeds about 68 at that rpm Thanks for the reply
  18. went out to Pomona yesterday auto meter temp gauge electric $55.00 oil press electric $70.00 and no tax. Will get them installed as soon as I get the vacuum gauge problem taken care of. And the Forces were out in force, but only Courtney made aqualifying run
  19. A couple of quick ?s, did you use the plastic hose that came with the gauge, mines reading between 20 and 21 at idle but just about anything else it goes to crap, what kind of readings are you getting at 65/70 and between 2700 and 2800 rpm
  20. Ynot Ive 97 Qx4 parts in my 88 pathy and the Qx4 emblem on my rear hatch window :welcome: and we need pics
  21. There was just about enough room for the vacuum line, I enlarged the hole with a moto dremel. I pulled the instrument cluster, I ran a wire coat hanger with 80 lb dacron fishing line attached to it through the back of the dash, using a pair of forceps I was able to grab the line. Then I pulled the wires up and through. I used 1 of the screws from the tweeter for the ground wires. I did the vacuum lines in the engine compartment today and finished the inside wiring. For the lights and switched power feed I tapped into my trans temp gauge that I installed about 6 months ago. All I need now is the gauges and finish wiring to the sending units THIS IS FOR A SQUARE DASH If I keep my 94 I might do it later
  22. the vacuum gauge came in yesterday, so I started playing around with the install, what a pain in the a$$, the vacuum line 2 wires for the senders 2 wires for the lights and 1 switched lead, anyway theyre all in. Now I need the temp and oil gauges and put evrything back together, also going to replace all the vacuum lines. Oh the autometer vacuum gauge was a very tight fit
