  1. It bolts up to the engine just fine. In the thread they said they got a junkyard power steering pump off an 88 hardbody. and bolted it right up. Since you do not get the pulley when you buy one from the auto parts store, the only reason I can see there being a difference is if the pully shaft diameter or spline count was different form an 88 to a 91. I guess I will find out. Mark
  2. Only reason I want to beef up the steering is I have a front locker. I don't care how buff you are: try turning or for that matter holding the steering straight with the front locker on and I only have 32's Mark
  3. I am going to be putting together a Pre wheeling checklist of things that need to be check prior to a wheeling trip. I thought you guys could help me out, This way I can avoid missing some crucial stuff. We already have a "things to take with you on a wheeling trip" list, so I thought this should be a good Idea as well. Feel free to chime in with some things that should be checked out on your rig. Mark
  4. Thought I would share my discount code with you guys. 1018844564175 Mark
  5. I read On AC forum something about helping improve the power steering system in our pathfinders. Basically it is replacing our Power steering pump with one from a 1988 hardbody or pathfinder. The reason is they have a removable restrictor valve that can be drilled out to provide more flow. In addition you have to modify the regulator with a couple of spacers to provide more flow. This mod is supose to make a huge improvement on the stock system. The reason this was don in the first place was to increase the flow and pressure in order to create a hydro-assist ram system. A few has said that is improves the stock system as well. Has anybody done this? and if so is there any difference between a 1988 power steering pump pulley and a 1991 pulley? I just want to make sure that if I get a 1988 pump from the auto parts store that it will work with my 1991 pulley. Thanks Mark
  6. Looks like they bent that line freehand. I would have rather had them run the line more on the upper side of the axle tube. And They probably stripped the hard off the old line trying to loosen it form the wheel cylinder. With a bender they could have done a nice sweep, they must not have had one. mark
  7. I am with Simon on this one. If you do not want to do it yourself (or can't do it yourself for whatever reason) then you will pay for it, and it won't be done exactly like you would do it (or you would want it done) If they could have got the part form the dealer, they surely would have to order it. Then the thread would have been titled "how long does it take to replace a wheel cylinder?" I feel that when I do take may car to someone else to work on (which is pretty much never) I am never satisfied with the price paid or the way the work done. I also realize It is a business and when I work on my truck it is a labor of love. So I will clean off every part I remove, Give it a new Paint job and then reassemble. They are not going to do that. They need to turn over the vehicles as fast as possible to make any money. Just My .02 cents Mark
  8. Finished Photos Powdercoated and Herculined. Here are the finished photos. I decided on Reflective chrome for the inside of the Skid. Just because I wanted to see how it looked and I did not really care what color it was going to be, just wanted to keep it from rusting.
  9. Well I bought an AC Skid plate and well It will not fit. I have an Arb Bumper and well they are not compatible with each other. Well they are If I want to pull my Arb bumper off each time I want to remove the skid. Not an option IMO. So I pulled off my skid plate and then remembered I have a second plate in the back yard. \ So I did what any logical thinking person with a welder would do. When finished It measures 11/64 of an inch thick. just under 3/16 thick (thanks My1path for pointing out my error) Now a quick powder coat and some herculiner and it is ready to be installed.
  10. Another Update! My Pathfinder started acting up again. This time I decided to tear The intake apart for the last time. I removed it completely then removed all the components off the intake and gave it a good dousing with carb cleaner. I had to scrape the egr tube since it was so gummed up and caked. I decided to replace the AAC (IAC valve)($150.00 at rock auto) I also gave it another sea foam vacuum line treatment just for good measure after reassembly. I then did the adjustment for the AAC as described in the Factory manual and it has been idling exactly at 750 ever since. Lets just hope this fix is more on the permanent side. Mark
  11. Well I have been pondering the thought of getting a system for a while and well I just took the plunge. I found someone getting rid of an old oven and that is what set this in motion. Now I am addicted and can't Stop. ( in need of a powder coating anonymous) I just received my kit and Have already scoured the house looking for things to powder coat. First victim was a lemon squeezer. I am now pondering building a 4 foot X 6 foot oven so I can do bigger things like engine blocks, headers, bumpers, Sliders and such. Looks like I will be taking a trip to Sims Steel again. I can't remember last time I went if they had Like 16 gauge sheet metal there. Somebody stop me I am going insane. I will post some pics of my lemon squeezer when I get home. I found all kinds of fancy new colors like chrome, metallics, and translucent. Mark
  12. 3 + 3 32 Remington Mud Kings. I have about 35% tread left. Still trying to decide what tires to get when there through.
  13. Weave some fishing line with fish hooks into you amp and sub wiring Harness. maybe you will catch a live one.
  14. I was in the same boat as you with my 1991 patrhfinder. All I did was replace the O2 sensor and the Cat, and cleaned my EGR passage and it brought both C0 and NOS numbers down to under 20. I would change those 2 things and clean the egr passage and send it in again. Never underestimate the power of a Brand New Cat. Mark
  15. My best guess is when you removed the caliper the hose was left dripping and it drained the entire front brake lines. This created an air lock in the brake lines and probably in the mater cylinder. Best way to remedy it would be to get a hand vacuum pump (mighty vac) and a brake bleeding reservoir. Hook it up to your front calipers bleed screw then open up the screw and pump until you see no air bubbles in the clear tube. repeat the other caliper. This should remove all air from your master and valve and lines. Mark
  16. I think that is the voltage regulator that goes behind the dash instrument cluster. it is for the temp and fuel gauge. The alternator regulator is integral with the alternator. not 100% sure on this someone else will chime in if I am wrong Mark
  17. I think that is why I got mine cheap. when I went to change ownership, It failed smog. Changed the O2 Sensor, Cat and cleaned the EGR passage and it passed with flying colors. Very low numbers across the board. As long as there is no major engine issues should be able to get it to pass for under $300 bucks. Mark
  18. I bought my 91 SE 2 years ago for $2500. It was and is in excellent shape. Only issue was it had a torn drivers side arm rest. I bought a brand new one for 80 bucks so now it is in perfect condition. It has little nicks and dents here and there but what 15 year old truck doesn't. I have definitely put more into it already than I paid for it. I would not sell this truck for anything. Mark
  19. And make sure you carry a spare in the back, for those trailside repairs
  20. That is on my project list myself picked up my steel in san jose for .55 per pound. spent about $100 bucks. Thinking of doing mine a little differently, I will be posting pics of mine shortly. Mark
  21. I got this off another forum Thought it would be useful here. Not sure what forum it should go in. Probably best suited for forum rules or something, Anyways Found it quite humorous and relevant. What is Spoon Feeding? dictionary.com defines it as follows: spoon-feed (spnfd) tr.v. spoon-·fed, (-fd) spoon-·feed·ing, spoon-·feeds 1. To feed (another) with a spoon. 2. To treat (another) in a way that discourages independent thought or action, as by overindulgence. 3. . 1. To provide (another) with knowledge or information in an oversimplified way. 2. To provide (knowledge or information) in an oversimplified way. Most often on the forums, "spoon feeding" refers to posters who ask questions, and refuse to put any effort or thought into their questions, as well as the answers they receive. They expect every answer to be dumbed down to the last detail, and expect that everyone else do their research for them. This is usually a characteristic of laziness, and not capability. Hence the saying, "I'm not handicapped, I'm just lazy." What is wrong with Spoon Feeding? Nothing, if you are unable to feed yourself. Examples of individuals who are incapable of feeding themselves include babies fig. A, quadriplegics, severly injured people fig. B, comatose people, and sometimes senior citizens. Usually these people also require the use of bedpans and/or diapers. fig. A fig. B How does this pertain to me? If you need to be spoon fed, you most likely fall into the category of the people above who cannot help themselves, and should therefore not be installing anything in your vehicle. What can I do? I want to change! With just a little time, energy, common sense, and thought on your part, it should be possible to elevate yourself to a whole new level of self, and no longer require spoon feeding.
  22. Check the A/c tensioner Pulley. It will be the pulley on top in the front of the engine. That bearing has been known to seize up and cause just what you are describing. This is more likely the case. Mark
  23. Just measured mine. it is 6'1" to the top of the rear window wind deflector. it is exactly 7ft tall to the top of my CB antenna. Wow Slick I guess you were right Mine is about as tall as King. Mark
  24. I put a elbow pipe fitting on mine and a small piece of pipe to extend the fill hole higher. I will have to post a pic of the mod when I get a chance. It makes sure that I never forget to under fill it again no matter how senile I get . One replacement transmission is enough for me. Mark
