Marlin Crawler 58" Sliders for $149...

well the rockrails he is looking at require him to weld anyways. If you have to Weld Then weld!! LOL -
Does it sound kinda like tearing metal? does it do it only when the wheels are turned full lock, or does it do it all the time? If it only does it at full lock it could be the steering stops. They should be greased every once in a while and may need new caps. The came stock with plastic caps. The new once from nissan are chrome plated caps. If it does it all the time it could be the 2 large bolts on the front end. I can't remember which ones since my problem was the steering stops. Mark

Build them yourself. I just built mine.. sorry for the dark pictures -
I actually got off my lazy but last 2 weekends and did something. I did absolutely nothing on my vacation. (BTW I thought we were going wheeling in December) That's ok I had a ton of crap to get done and did nothing, Beside my back was killing me on my vacation so I probably would not have gone anyways. But Now I got Rock rails I want to go wheeling. I took some time off on working on my truck, now I am back to working on it again. I should be frequenting the board more now. Mark

Go to home depot and get a cement mixing pan. I got one that is large enough to almost covers the entire front end of the truck. Then just pour it into suitable contain for recycling (using a funnel). It works great for all kinds of fluids when your not sure where it is going to run off of. http://housewares.hardwarestore.com/35-175...aign=googlebase Mark

I guess we will see if they hold up. If they fail. I will go back to the redesign stage. My first indication that the plates my have been too thin was that they warped a little bit when I welded the cross pieces to them. Although I think the rosette welds in the 2 holes in each plate should help keep the plates from bending under stress. Time will tell, Now I will have to go find some rocks and see if I can bend them now. Mark

ok here it is. A little something I improvised on when building the sliders
-
Finally installed on my pathfinder.
-
Updated pic I finished welding and grinding. and put the weld thru primer on the plates, and put bedliner on the topside of the rockrails. Next (after it dries I can weld them on the truck and finish bedlining the bottom.
-
every piece on metal in this design is 3/16 thick. the metal for the mounting plates is the same height as the frame and will be welded to the top and the bottom edges of the frame. I will be applying weld thru primer to the frame and the plates prior to welding to keep it from rusting in between them. I think it will be plenty strong since I am spreading the load across a large area of the frame It is pretty much over engineered already.

I only drive it around town and wheeling so It won't bother me much. If it was my daily driver I would definitely have reconsidered it.

As Promised here are the pics of the rock rails in progress. I will post pics of them installed after this weekend. Still have some grinding and more welding to do to them before they are ready for paint. Here is a sample on how they are constructed. Mark
-
Well I just fabbed up my sliders and well they are quite heavy. The construction consists of 2 6 foot sections of 2x2 square stock at 3/16th Inch thick for each side. I still have to install them and paint them. I will post pics of the completed sliders pre install and post install later this week. The complete weight of just one slider is about 65 lbs. Puts me at about 130 pounds total weight. How do others compare in weight? Mark

one you get this figured out I would be interested in sending you my spare chip and have you program it for me. I have a vg30e. Mark

Glad to see that you found a shop that meets your standards. I honestly was in the same predicament as you. I would love to have found a mechanic I could trust to do mine. In the end I decided to do it myself. I read and read and read until I understood the procedure. The I read it 3 more times. I made a bookmarks folder for every reference, photo, Instruction, and diagram. The I double and triple checked everything. Mostly when I was drilling the diff case for the air line fitting. I did both front and back ARB lockers on my 91 pathfinder. It took several trys to get everything right. I must have put the front diff in the case 30 times until I got the correct preload, runout, backlash, ect. I replaced all the bearings while I was at it. I made sure it was done correctly. In the end (like everything else) I am glad I did it myself. I know that everything was within specs because I triple checked everything. I got about 7,000 miles on my truck since the install, and everything seems great so far. BTW this was the first time I have ever touched a Diff, I learned a lot in the process, and looking back while it was repetitive, it was not that bad. I think you will be very happy with your Arb. Still have not used mine as of yet. I normally just use my winch. I know there will come a time that I get stuck and have nothing to hook the winch to and I will need it. Mark

I picked up one of these. no closed loops to connect dangerous heavy metal loops to. http://superstrap.com/ Mark

Honestly now, I did not expect them to honor the price. I imagine thousands of people did just like me and tried to order at this amazingly low price. I just did it to call them on their mistake. And maybe get some free rims. I am not disappointed at all. I got what I expected. Nothing. Was a charged anything, No. I think it is funny how a little mistake can cause such an uproar. Think of all the people they have to call and tell them that they had an error in the system and no they cannot have some free rims. Mark
-
They just called and said they had a computer glitch. Looks like they are going to weasel out of this one. Mark
-
It looks like they have now fixed there glitch. They had 2 discounts on the rims that made them free. They have removed the 2nd discount and now they are 75% off. still a good deal, just not as good as free. Now lets see if they honor this screw up or weasel out of it. Mark
-
It might be a computer glitch but if you put weld rims in your cart at 4wheelparts.com and choose to pick them up in the store, They show as 0.00 I will see if I get a call with them explaining the glitch or if I get the rims for free. Act now before they fix the glitch. Unfortunately they do not have any 15 inch rims Mark
