  1. I have a Schrade 3" clip point folding knife that I keep stuck to the edge of my pocket most of the time. Used to have a Cold Steel Recon Tanto, one day I dropped it from waist height onto asphalt and chipped a good quarter inch off the tip. It wasn't much use in everyday life anyway, but it was a cool-ass knife! I used to carry a Gerber Multi-plier everywhere in a belt pouch, went through about four or five of 'em before I quit carrying it. Damn blades and attachments kept breaking on me too. I broke probably four of those things simply using the pliers, too. One jaw would break off and voila, useless Multi-plier. I still have two Multi-pliers, they just get used when I need pliers, heh. I used to get catalogs from Smoky Mountain Knife Works...the world's largest cheap knife retailer, lol. Oh yeah! My favorite knife ever is the out of production Kershaw Blue Mountain (I think) double folder with a locking clip point and a folding sheepsfoot blade. I dropped over $100 on this thing probably 10 years ago and it still cuts paper like a razor blade.
  2. Awesome! Thanks so much, everyone! Donations stand at $295.40. Keep in mind that Paypal steals a small percentage of each donation as a fee. Fifteen people have donated to NPORA so far. Two people donated $50. Three people donated $30. One person donated $25. Four people donated $20. Four people donated $10. One person donated $6. I don't like forum subscriptions, I'd like to keep the forum free for all. As I get things sorted out we'll get some deals for decals and whatnot done up. Next thing to do is buying the new forum software and getting it running. Once again, thank you to everyone that donated their hard-earned money to keep NPORA alive. It's greatly appreciated. Moving topic to Announcements.
  3. We had $55.11 and I used $30 to pay for the forums for this month. Now: $25.11.
  4. We've had this discussion before. MWS took a look at the design of the gears and t-case in general on WD21's. Early WD21's specified gear oil in the t-case (mine had gear oil in it when I bought it and the FSM says gear oil as well) while some later ones used Dexron III. The manually shifted TX-10 t-case design wasn't changed, so it looks like you could run either kind in the t-case.
  5. Is it hissing while running or when off? Sometimes the evaporative recovery system can make a hiss after the engine's off, and when it's running the fuel pump will kinda whine or hiss as it operates.
  6. Ditto, it's for looks only. I have a friend that had one on a Ford and a couple of drunk guys roughhousing on it broke it clean off at the welds.
  7. Chevy stuff does not bolt to Nissan stuff without expensive custom adapters. You CAN use an all-GM drivetrain if you're good at fabbing though. I've seen these engines transplanted: Nissan 3.3 V6 Nissan 4.5 V8 Ford 302 V8 Chevy 305 V8 Chevy 350 V8 Chevy 383 V8 GM 3.8 V6 GM 4.3 V6
  8. I used a propane torch and simply sat the UCA on the ground in some gravel with the torch aimed at the rubber. With a little scraping and gouging with an old screwdriver you can get all the rubber out pretty easily. The cleanup is the hard part. Got a wire wheel?
  9. If anyone wants to donate a few dollars toward keeping NPORA alive, here is a Paypal donation link you can use to do so. All donations will go toward hosting, forum software and domain registration specifically for NPORA. I would also like to have a run of stickers made eventually since we have such an awesome design and all. Maybe t-shirts? DONATIONS *This information is outdated, please do not use any links contained within this thread to make NPORA donations.* I'm not asking for everyone to drop twenties on NPORA, but a few bucks here and there would really help. Our first goal is $30 to pay back Scott for last month's hosting, $30 for this month and $180 for new vBulletin forum software. Thank you very much, everyone.
  10. I used to work for North Sky before Potelco bought the company. I have no clue what they're up to these days, their Salem office is closed.
  11. I'd ask if it fits first. The intake on a 87-89 is NOTHING like the intake on a 90-95. The hot air riser on the bottom of the stock air cleaner will need to be eliminated, that would be the very first place water would go if you got in too deep.
  12. Yeah...if it weren't for my dad letting me slide on the rent I'd be homeless too.
  13. I have a few of the cheap lightweight wrist wraps, that's about it. The problems at night just started...I knew it was coming though. I gave myself carpal tunnel 5-7 years ago doing the same exact job...(but for twice the pay)
  14. For an 89 I don't think there are any snorkels you can buy. You'd have to make your own. The round air cleaner would have to be completely sealed and you'd have to figure out some way to attach the end of the snorkel piping to the rectangular snout on the air cleaner...
  15. Hay guys! (and girls) This is just a note to let y'all know what I've been up to lately, personally. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I just started a new job last Monday and I'm still acclimating to it. I'm working for a CATV and aerial construction company as a cable splicer. The job is in my home town, so no commute and it's not too tough to get up on time. This job is pretty big; I anticipate it lasting half a year or so. After that I may be able to work on a line crew or splice cable somewhere else, I dunno yet. The boss told me that the company sends a cable crew to Alaska every year in the summer time, maybe I can go to Alaska? (Fairbanks) It's been tough working for the past two weeks with no money in my pocket for anything. Bank account's overdrawn by $99, I've been unemployed for the past 6 months or so...working odd side jobs with my dad on remodeling/painting/building things. I applied for a food stamp card and was approved (176 a month, heh) so at least I have stuff to eat. One bad thing about working on cable, the act of twisting fittings together all day results in carpal tunnel. If you've never had carpal tunnel, you're missing out. NOT! I wake up four to six times a night with one or both of my hands asleep. I have to take Aleve daily for the swelling in my hands and forearms. Anyway, things are not all bad, I have hopes and I have a job now. I'm going to be examining the forum move ASAP next. Here's my bucket truck. '95 Chevy 4WD, 454, 180k miles and new paint. The paint is the best part of the damn thing, just about every other part on that truck is broken, leaking, loose or rattling. Last Wednesday the idler pulley for the serpentine belt took a crap and ate the whole inside of the pulley up, but the belt stayed on! I fixed it on the side of the road after the boss bought a new one.
  16. Yeah, those were styled after the prerunner race scene. IIRC they came with neat tube bumpers.
  17. Break the grid center out and leave it unplugged. It won't cause any problems unless it gets really cold. Even then a little throttle at startup will get you going.
  18. Pull the stereo and check for connection problems with the dimmer wire? That shouldn't affect the headlights but you never know.
  19. Could also be the harmonic balancer making noise. Sometimes they can separate from the isolator and cause all kinds of problems.
  20. Where is it leaking from? Could it be the heater hoses?
  21. Could also be the wiring for the sending unit. It tends to corrode and weaken at the tank, which could increase resistance and make the gauge read wrong.
  22. The same exact thing happened to me. The timing belt is too tight. If you leave it that way it can snap the end off one of the cams.
  23. That's the power steering reservoir. You may be missing the dipstick if you still can't find it. That's no fun! Hold on, I'll go take a picture... Mine's an older version, but the dipstick is in the same place. It's tough to tell on these automatics whether they'll live or die when they reach the point where reverse begins slipping. Generally speaking, when it starts to slip in reverse it's fairly well shot already and forward gears will probably go next. If the dipstick is missing, you may also have a problem with water or dirt/dust in the trans fluid, which REALLY doesn't help. You'd be best off to get an external cooler and change the fluid to begin with. Then see if reverse performance improves before taking long road trips in it. You probably don't want to be stranded 400 miles from home with a blown transmission that costs +/- $2000 to rebuild or replace.

    CODES

Generally speaking, misfires indicate a bad coil on that cylinder from what I've seen. I don't think the trans codes have anything to do with the MAF.
