Its all in how you drive it. I can get 20mpg too, but usually im in a hurry so.... 18 it is. they used to be rated 15city 18 hwy but now the new epa specs put them at 14city 17 hwy. But i only get 14 if im using 4wd in a snowstorm

wheres simon when you need him, i know he knows.
-
if you do have abs, like i do, its rear wheel abs only. kinda but i find i can stop better with this pathy than my dads with 4 wheel abs.

Great time to install an aftermarket tranny cooler If you look in the how to section i think theres a thread on it. And they aren't that expensive. Just bypass the stock cooler all together.

it has, IIRC, 4 actual gears, 4th being the overdrive gear, then theres the torque converter lockup. If you turn the od switch off, it should go 1,2,3, and stay there. I think you mean TC, right?
-
dude the vg30e wd21s are 4 speed auto with OD i'm revving at 2500 doing 100kmh and 3000 doing 120 with the tc locked gas killer
-
You say if its below 50 degrees it won't lock up, how long are you driving it for? I know in my 95 here in canada the tq won't lockup unless the truck is FULLY warmed up, like temp gauge where it usually is and heat flowing full.

But what 16 year old kid would have a 2002 pathfinder?
-
or have them all slide off the passenger seat onto the floor when you turn
-
How long did you run it for? If it didn't warm up it'll idle high like that and blow white out the tail pipe. My 93 does that as it sits for long periods of time.
-
Im starting to agree with dan about this place.
-
How long has it been sitting? Also you might want to update your sig if you send me some pics of your truck i could photoshop one up if you don't have photoshop
-
So have you taken her out for a tour yet? get that trans and axles moving again.

Our rodeo would do that when the starter was going out. It would do it VERY intermittently as that we just thought it was a fluke or that the battery was going bad. But then it started getting worse, fast. I don't know much about the VQ pathys but it sounds like the same thing. Or sometimes it would click, click, click, three slow turnovers, then the regular start. We took it to the dealer and they called us and said they'd been trying it every 15 minutes and that it was fine. But then at the end of the day when they went to bring it to my mom's bf, it wouldn't start for them and they had me bring it back the next day for the job. under warranty though.

Wierd thing on my 95 is that even if i push the shifter back into 2hi, the light stays on and i can still feel that its in 4x4 but if i stop somewhere, but dont' back up it will go off and keep the hubs locked. pathy.
-
the haynes manual i have covers pathys from 87-95 and hardbodys till 97. You have to be real careful when you read it because it covers the same thing multiple times for the different models.

I can tell you that those 2 ground straps that are supposed to go on the manifold won't cause you're issue. As mine are broken at the moment and she still runs fine. Although it's probably a good idea to hook'em up anyways.

Fuel economy oddity, symptom of some problem?
adamzan replied to HankG's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Its a 5speed vg33 XE r50, not an auto. I think thats why. It also looks to have a beefed up rear suspension on it (rides stiffer in the back) and it was all ready to tow when he bought it with 40k on it. I think we've towed something twice in the 2 and half years we've had it. My wd21 is at 2500ish and 100km/h and if i go 120kmh its revving at nearly 3000. Its just gearing I think. -

How much city driving do you do? I know that in my truck that if i do ALL highway, i get almost 20mpg, but during my normal week routine, I get probably 16-17mpg because its 50/50 city/highway. Also are you auto or a 5speed? With my dads r50, I get the best mileage when I drive it because I shift at 2500-3000. If you're an auto, leave the overdrive switch on all the time and don't gun it at the lights, that uses a lot of gas. Also try to use 55mph roads instead of 65 as, or at least in our r50, the gearing is such that at 65, the engine is revving at 2800 -
Also the 88 thats down the road from my friends place has it. And its an auto. Simon did your old 95 have it?

Under rear seat rust, rocker rust ans rear wheel arch rust
adamzan replied to zack1978's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Mine is starting under the rear seats but this spring I will be cutting out the rusted parts and putting in new steel. Just make sure It's sealed well so it doesn't leak. My drivers rear door rocker is starting to get bad and I'm having a body shop fix it in the spring depending on funds. I'm not really experienced with body work so I'm leaving it to the pro's. My frame is mint though, and I live in canada -
Pull the codes from the ecu, theres a how too in the garage section. The ecu is under the passenger seat fyi. I think it stores codes for 50 key cycles after the problem goes away or is fixed.
