  1. The one time I heard of this happening, it turned out that the crank pulley (the big one all the belts are attached to) had worn or somehow got messed and it was kinda wobbling, which in turn would tear the belts, but not before they would squeal like old hell. I *think* (not sure on the wd21's, as this happened on an r50) there is a rubber bushing inside the harmonic balancer i think its called, well anyways i think that can deteriorate over time. Maybe there are some nics in the pulleys from people using screwdrivers to pry on belts..... Someone correct me if im wrong, but my shop teacher told me a long time ago, that you can use a strait edge to see if all the pulleys line up, and if they don't, start there. Edit: msavides i didn't see your post but you could be right, as that happened on my 95, makes a lot of noise before it seizes though.
  2. I've read on here that if the timing belt jumps one tooth, that it will have serious power issues, and will have trouble gaining speed up hills and keeping it on the highway. I KNOW if it jumps 3 or more teeth will cause the pistons to hit the valves. The timing belt interval for an 88 is 60k miles, so.....its wayyy over due if it hasn't been done.
  3. ill take some pics of my 95 today while im out and about. I won't bother with the 93 since i dont' feel like digging it out of the snow.
  4. both my 95 and 93 have the vents under the seats....... oh ya the 95 is an xe and the 93 is an se if that matters
  5. not to mention the slushy mess for us up north
  6. If the alt goes, i think you get the AT oil temp, battery and brake lights. All that red is sure to catch your attention!
  7. I had that happen to me on prom night in the r50 even though its stock. When i went into the VIP parking area, the sign slapped against the roof rack, and attracted attention from a bunch of people The truck cleared the roof of the place by like an inch haha If it was at a mall parking garage i'd just go in and park on the highest level which is usually not covered. Thats how it is at a few malls here, as the height guide is before you even hit the ramp. So, if you just keep going around, you'll get to the top and have a crap load of spots to choose from cause nobody parks up there!
  8. sounds like the valve ticking noise that a lot of these trucks have on cold starts. IIRC
  9. Yeah I've been wondering how i'd be able to go into parking garages and malls and stuff if lifted it.
  10. yup. if you want to do body lifts, big tires, sas, a wd21 is great. r50's, although sometimes catch a lot of flack, have proven themselves to be just as good with the right mods. Just look at pezzys in the members rides section. A couple good examples of built wd21s are simons, mookies, and 87pathy's. There are lots there. It all depends on what you want to do with it. Oh yeah, if you want more hp go for the 2001, as they have a 250 3.5 v6 and the 99's only had a 170hp 3.3 good luck!
  11. Does it do it all the time or only when its warm or cold? Do what casey says down below, mine turned out to be all 3 drive belts needing replacing.
  12. Dude be careful when driving it, as i can see you have holes near the upper link cross member. On my 93, when my dad had it, the memeber slowly worked itself loose until it fell off on one side. Just don't do any burn outs and avoid pot holes, that is, until its fixed.
  13. Nope and it would make those cold starts much easier lol. Although we do have a motomaster deep cycle battery.... My wd21 seems to handle the canadian winter starts with ease.
  14. When mine pulled right when braking and was starting to lose fluid, it turned out to be the rear drivers side wheel cylinder. Are you discs or drums in the rear?
  15. would you mind filling us in on where it is? my dad wants to know.
  16. maybe this will help you....
  17. If you pull the radio and audip amp fuses you shouild be good. I think.
  18. I wonder if you can adjust the back ones so they go down all the way instead of stopping at the safety point. I don't have kids and would like my back windows to go down all the way!
  19. ok i think he means like THIS
  20. I didn't mean actually puke, but it was gross enough that i almost did. There was probably a few years worth of cigar wrappers, spilled drinks, plastic cutlery. I cleaned it up though, now my truck doesnt smell anymore!
  21. whats so much better about it? i bet it was gross under the old one was on mine.
  22. The dealer ship mechanic told my dad when he bought the 2000 pathy that if he just does a rolling stop, not that they condone them, but say like you had to slow down, enough to need first, they told him to just start in 2nd. Because on his 1st was to start from a DEAD stop.
  23. Its all in how you drive it. I can get 20mpg too, but usually im in a hurry so.... 18 it is. they used to be rated 15city 18 hwy but now the new epa specs put them at 14city 17 hwy. But i only get 14 if im using 4wd in a snowstorm
  24. wheres simon when you need him, i know he knows.
  25. if you do have abs, like i do, its rear wheel abs only. kinda but i find i can stop better with this pathy than my dads with 4 wheel abs.
