  1. How do I do that---oh great one? Is it manual with a pump or is it with a e-gauge?
  2. Anybody here thought about this or done it already? I am interested in doing this. The saga continues.... the JWT S1 cams made the truck very peppy..about 2500rpms to 3500rpms it zooms through the rev band...this is before changing the timing on the truck. It was gone from my hands for a long time (thus my absence) trying to locate the click click click noise that I have...it is too loud and obnoxious to be anything good. I have serious concerns about the trucks current health. The mech. that did the work is a 15yr cert Honda tech that loves old-skool roadsters (and V8's). He is very knowledgeable, but I still feel shafted. My truck has a loud knock or clicking sound that is kept up by the engine. What is it? I have no clue and that is the worst part. Ideas: ...new lifters/cams not yet worn in (Mech) ...valve springs too loose inside heads (friends thoughts) ...Cracked manifold (s) (Great tech at Autozone--who knew 0 about the TSB) What I do know... ...truck is getting better fuel economy with better zip (and 32's), ...truck is making noise like a super-quiet diesel.... ...CEL says random missfire (this may be need of new plugs/wire/cap/rotor and bump in timing), ...lastly several people have drove the truck and think that the truck is super peppy now and can't believe it is the same motor. ...as if that weren't enough It now leaks oil like a sift. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~so why not look to bore out the TB to get more ponies out of it?? Sorry So Long ALL RESPONSE = MUCH THANKS
  3. I would tend to agree with Venge, other than they are easily replaceable (sp?). This makes them just perfect to pull off and replace every couple years...esp if you are able to leave them black. I also hunted for this rocker panel/door bottom trim...found it in a bone yard, and also learned that it doesn't peel off really well. I think that this stuff is sweet, it protects from small rocks thrown against the truck and could be replaced...personally way better than spraying rhino-liner on the rockers and/or the doors. I would still spray the rockers as I have been shiopping for the best estimate--labor for this small area is the iller! You would just have to buy it new, unless there is a more skilled way of removal...heat gun would have helped but I didn't have acess to power out there so oh well to that one!
  4. I have the S1's installed...so far it sucks! The installer set the timing back to 0 at TDC (or says he did) and the truck runs like poo. at 2500 rpms the tuck seems to wake up and move until 4500 then feels like the same old truck...but I have a (i hope only one) problem. The ecu is sending a P0300 code...random misfire. I now have an exhaust manny leaking whether it is a gasket (cause he re-used) or the manny is cracked. several people that I have talked to said that it is possible the the ecu "sees" the exhaust leak and identifies it as a compression loss/misfire. I have new gaskets and am ready to check the timing-- the sticker under the hood of the truck suggests that it is set to 15 degrees BTDC...does that mean the timing should be set to 15 Before Top Dead Center??? Idle quality right now is bad, so is the noise from the gasket (sounds like valves clattering--LOUD)..the truck when driving has noticeably more torque...the engine is not working to roll the 32"'s and gets up and goes on the interstate...as I said though the power is splotchy. XPLORx4 here is the link to the site I got my lifters from. I have a friend that has had done work by this small garage for about 15-18 years, the mech is an old Honda certified tech and has always done work outside of his job...then retired from the dealership and just does outside work now. He works on everything, but loves his imports (for work)...I bought all the parts (minus 1 plenum gasket {he used} and 2 exhaust gaskets{he didn't}) and his labor for the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, by-pass hose, new rad hoses, new drive belts, cams, lifters, cam seals, head gaskets, removal/installation of heads, new gaskets was.......$645 All together including a new EVAP canister and vent valve I had spent $1800...now I just have an expensive busted truck...this is wearing me out! Any help or pointers anyone can give is incredibly appreciated!
  5. Feels tired cause its a SOHC...thats just wrong! LoL I did get the cams in S1"s, I will drive it about 50 miles tongiht so I will be able to give some sort of idea on that topic.....is there anyone on this forum that has them and messed with the engines timing to get the extra ponies? or for that matter has some real experience with that??
  6. ...Still wainting on my truck to come back from the Mech. but I was looking to reduce weight not undrive my stuff....weight reductions are a quick/easy gain in ponies!!
  7. TURBOPATH & XPLORx4 Make no rash decisions just yet!! I will have my rig back from the shop on Friday with the JWT S1 cams installed!! (along with 100K maint + EVAP Canister) I will be able to describe the S1 results...I have not seen anyone actually depict their impressions of the cams in their trucks sooooo.... hold up TURBO and XPLORx don't just change those gaskets yet! I have: a pop charger 2.5" exhaust with Flowmaster 50 Series REVO's 265/75/16 WARN manual hubs E-Fan this should provide accurate knowledge of most available upgrades minus Stillen Headers and Billet Crank Pulley!! Stay tuned! ps...anyone know which crank pulley should be a swap over from the Z car if any??
  8. I did a JWT [pop charger knock off from the local parts store...I did learn one trick...but it is small. If you leave the little sensor (air intake tem sensor) from the factory piping that is in the wheel well outside the engine bay the truck thinks that the air is colder and adds more fuel (similar to the eBay !!! 20 HP in 10 MIN !!! crap) The catch is that this will beat up your gas mileage...warmer air actually gives you better economy, or perhaps just giving the ECU the right reading to adjust would be a better reasoning!
  9. WOW Lewis that is a better price than I paid...but I didn'tknow it was interchangeable with thiose other truck either...... I paid a "discounted" rate for AST part at $65!!! :o YIKES :o
  10. To add to this thread...my loose front pass wheel was because I have a wheel bearing that needs to have its lock nut tightend just a little! My alignement shop told me this when I told to him to go over the front end for me....quite a cool dude. Liked the Warn Hubs, and was tickled ( in a bad way) that I had a 2" lift plus 4.6" larger tires than when he saw it and it is still kinda small in comparison to many other trucks in the lot! None the less patted me on the back for doing all the work myself and said that he wished more people would pay attention to the alignment and overall correctness of the their vehicle so that they didn't get so pissed when he had to replace parts!
  11. I will concur with venge....I need to replace 2 O2 sensors in the exhaust manny's, my vent valve too is bad and I drive like a bat outa hell too!!
  12. I have a DEKA sealed marine and it is awesome...big stereo system runs for long time w/truck off.....starts right up...that doesn't mean that your alternator won't still have to work, but it eliminates hard starting and stuff in the winter and definately cuts back on blown subwoofers from lack of current!!!
  13. :o Runnerman :o You totally have my interest....this Summer for me includes skids, sliders, and I can only hope a steel bumper...with winch to follow. I absolutely love the T-17 bumper is this the best comparison for what you are designing (that we all are keeping you from doing! ). ---> I think that pezz-ster has proven that 96-99/99.5-04 are very interchangeable! As well as I bought that silly Westin bull-bar for a 99.5+ that fits my 98. Runnerman I would want to package all those pieces together..bumper, superskid pkge, and sliders so I can prepare for the $damage! Keep us in touch, and by the .. THANKS!!!
  14. :o Bam! So is that the wrap around style in your pic Venge, or is that the standard? Are the wings those little angled pieces that keep you from having the regular end caps on the truck? How does the tire get out of the way for rear hatch access? Are those prices shipped or will that be more yet? That ought to do it? Ehh? Sorry bro I am an inquiring mind!!! I am sure others will want to know also!! Thanks for all your leg work---very cool!
  15. Brake fluid was my first thought also!
  16. You will want to add them after themp, but you wil definately want some resistors for them so they don't get blown...even if they have a little resistor on the side of the tweeter it is just protection and its also insurance that they will produce clean sound for you! On a side note, the factory tweters in the front pilliars of the truck sound good too when you use an aftermarket amp! I amp'd them and crossed them over with some resistors and they hit the spot....I did however add another tweeter to each of the doors close to where the door meets the dash! The front is pretty sweet now all around!
  17. Wheel you're right I shouldn't complain I started with the 168!! Buuuut I can't seem to score a set of headers!!
  18. I am replacing the Lifters and Valve cover gaskets, as recommended, other than that...the old truck will get: New Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water pump, Bypass hose, Xterra T-Stat, Cam seals, Charcoal Canister w/evap vent valve. I hope that it is worth the effort...the cams that is
  19. Today I ordered the JWT S1 cams..."Ben" told me that the gains are about 12-14 horses...yikes that's a chunk of change! I guess that nears $40 a horse!!! Sheesh back in the day a great horse was only $12! These better be very large horses!!!
  20. Yo-B what b my momfle note on doez re-ims?
  21. would that mean lower compression? Or do those little indents make no difference?
  22. :o Damn I lost the headers!! some dude named BigJAir got them...I wonder if he is on NPORA?? Hmmm. IF I am right way to go man.
  23. :o Aggggh! Where are you talking about? Where did it start on you 2? Or anybody for that matter?
  24. So these are 1.25" spacer adapters and they did change the way the truck handles...the more I toy with this the better I dig off/on ramps!!! Can you see my little Honda in the reflection...these two are good friends, but it seems the Honda is moving to California! Maybe I can have another friendly animal in the stable this fall, huh?
