devonianwalk
I'd like to know what the Titan owners final "straw" was like for him to admit "it's time to take it to the mechanics" moment. Sheesh!
nunya
He didn't, it was just oil change time.. there was still more clockwise twist left in the radio volume knob so his brakes still had more time!
vagabond
We have a 24 bay shop and there are some days where we roll 100 vehicles or more vehicles through the service department. Odds are we will see strange/odd and bizzare things now an then!Add to this we are dealing with the general public, not mechanically minded or anything. All most people know is how to put gas in their car, and sometimes change the oil and put tires on it. Otherwise, as long as it starts every time there is nothing wrong with their car and nothing it needs done to it. They never look under the hood. You would be surpised how many people have never looked under the hood of their car and dont even know how to pop the hood of their car, and its not just women, men too. (though more women than men) When you talk to them they have no clue what you are talking about, even if you try to keep it simple. It is actually refreshing when you get a customer who knows just basics of car mechanics and can follow along with what you are talking about. People dont believe me when I say rats can cause problems in winter. They look for nice warm and safe places to hide and nest like your garage. Add keeping food items or pet food, etc in the garage and its a rat/mouse dream come true. Every year around this time we get stuff like that. This past Friday a tech did an EGI harness repair on an Altima where rats had chewed on the harness. Not only rats but ground squirrels as well, my neighbor had over $600.00 worth of damage done to their exploder chewed up wiring
vagabond
Maybe I was lucky, or maybe it was the car mentality of So Ca, but after spending almost 35 years as a mechanic/technician with ford and datsun/nissan about the worst thing I can remember was when one of the San Diego lifeguards drove their hardbody around a jetty that they thought they could get around at low tide. When the truck came into the shop you could see where the water level had been half way up the instrument cluster. luckly for San Diego they leased the vehicles for $1.00 a year and everything was covered by warranty. One other thing about the early 21s they had very little cover over the ecu and when a lifeguard got into the truck after a rescue or what ever the saltwater would seep through the seat and shortly afterwards we'd be replacing an ecu and wiring loom, we quickly learned to bag and tape the ecu and loom to keep the saltwater out. SHEESH more ramblings of an old man
Alkorahil
You know it is bad when............ http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x291/alkorahil/1226121627_zps66726911.jpg Whatever it was it had them saying things that cant be repeated in politce company. I cam out my office door, saw this and right after taking this picture I made the "how many technicians does it take to...." comment to them and got a greasy rag thrown at me. Alkorahil
We sent 3 packages to Canada today. It caused (as it tends to do) me and a co-worker to engage in a rousing chours of 'O Canada' complete with a .wav file playing. We got some strange looks. It is just something we do here to entertain ourselves.
Alkorahil
We also had this little gem 'roll' on to the service drive this morning.....I will never know why people just keep on driving to someplace when they have a flat. Alkorahil
We had a 2003 Supercharged Xterra with 178K miles in the shop today for a no start issue. Distributor wasnt rotating. He pulled the timing cover off and found the tensioner was no longer providing tension. You could move the belt around on the sprockets by hand. I snapped a pic of the busted belt teeth. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x291/alkorahil/belt_zps6e6a7b84.jpg Timing belt had never been done on the truck before ever! It also had a leaking power steering pressure hose, leaking oil from the oil pan (was down 1 quart of oil) and no oil dipstick! ahardb0dy
I was going to comment on those big fans, looks like the same one's we have in our warehouse. Have you ever had a supercharged hardbody or WD21 in the shop? Back in NY at the off road shop I worked in we worked on a hardbody with, I guess it was the JCR supercharger, the truck was on 35's and the mechanic said it ran pretty good.
