mws Posted March 21, 2007 Share Posted March 21, 2007 I have never seen anyone successfully pushstart an auto. And yes, it will be possible to bump start a stick with just a starter interlock. IF the mouth breather/wanna be thief is willing to extend the effort to try. Most are too lazy. They want the simple, easy mark. Gotta pick your battles. If they want it bad enough to be willing to try to overcome a starter interlock, they would likely just as easily overcome an ignition interlock. I went and swapped out the regular single red LED on the dash that came with the alarm for a bright blue one and 1 more on each A-pillar, right by the tweeter. They're cheap, bright, and you can see them from waaay far away. A thief doesn't know if I've got a $500 mondo alarm system or $2 in extra LED's. It was actually the ignition wires re-routed under the drivers seat with a switch installed (problem with ign switch and the prior owner made the change). When he traded it in on a new truck, the dealer had to call him after he got home. it was still parked right in the middle of the lot where he left it, they had techs checking it out and everything, could not figure out why it would not start As for Mr. P's blue LEDs, I leave my bluetooth headset in the truck all the time (except when charging it) which has a timed flashing blue LED on it. I think anyones key will work to unlock my car. buddy I went to school with randomly stuck his key in my door and it unlocked it (he has a sunfire) same with my other friends key and he has a ford ranger. sigh. unccpathfinder Posted March 24, 2007 Share Posted March 24, 2007 hmm thats weird on the key thing i know my other pathy keys wont open each other... but a crazy interesting thing is on newer chevrolets...i think like mid 90's and up until at least 02 or so...any chevy truck key will open another chevy trucks door...i know my buddies sonoma key opened another buddies z71 and my roommates s10 when he locked his keys in it...that makes me want to try out my buddies 06 z71 to see if they fixed that lil bug or not...if not i wouldnt have a chevy Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Slick Posted March 24, 2007 Share Posted March 24, 2007 i am enjoying this thread...... especially since i am installing king's new tires next week and have been thinking more and more about security. they will go for the gusto and take the WHOLE truck to get the tires. poor king has been the victim of attempted thefts 3 times now, which is why his locks are all fubard. i had to tear out the keyless entry alarm because it stayed live all the time and ran the battery down every time it was armed. i am looking to get the big guy some GOOD anti theft devices, and so far a kill switch and taking the coil wire off have been my options (price wise). i won't be driving him everyday until i get my CL, then he will be a DD so i won't worry as much.... but until then...... My Driver's side, rear door no longer works, and there is evidence that somebody attempted to break into the truck using that door. Tried, and failed miserably, and in process, FUBAR'd the locking mechanism and door release linkages. unccpathfinder Posted March 26, 2007 Share Posted March 26, 2007 most of the time you cant get into driver side doors...pass side doors are much easier to get in from my experiences (tow truck driver also told me pass side doors are easy to get into and so far its been true and thats with a slim jim) scary is also that my buddy bought some wheel locks from some tire place and my cuz bought them from somewhere back home and when we were doing his locker he couldnt find his wheel lock and i was like well it kinda looks like mine but i bet there is a diff in the depth of the keys or something but nope sure enough it fit right in... so that got me to thinking that i could really piss off the guys at the tire shop and get 6 sets of wheel locks and have 6 keys for each tire...i bet they wouldn't be happy Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Something about the average strength of a locking lug nut not being equal to that of a normal lug nut yea i think you also loose the actual amount of torque being applied due to slippage and what not...i was being sarcastic...the only wheel locks are on the spare tire...the actual wheels dont have locks... if they want the wheels and ****** tires on them they can have it...i have full coverage and could use some new tires... mattd123 Posted March 26, 2007 Share Posted March 26, 2007 No offence guys but alarms are pointless nobody pays attention to them anymore, plus my dads went of once and i got in with no keys and disarmed it in like maybe 2 min. ive driven a car with the club on the steering wheel its not hard to do, the thing that goes under the brake pedal or clutch is a good idea but i have to give the props to a hidden kill switch, i had one in my glove box and i had all my stuff stolen and the ignition ripped up on my camaro but they never got it. unccpathfinder Posted March 26, 2007 Share Posted March 26, 2007 No offence guys but alarms are pointless I watched a show where this guy was showing how oblivious people are and how they wont say anything and he just walked up to some cars and busted the windows out and was like man i locked my keys inside and every1 was like well wouldnt a locksmith be cheaper and he was like no then grabbed some @!*% and walked off...he did it on cars, houses (neighbors watched them load up @!*% and never called the cops), and hotels (got folks names and then "forgot his key" and got let into rooms by security...there was only 1 hotel in vegas that wouldnt let him in...but many other big name casino/hotels in vegas and new york let him right in... then i thought how many times in charlotte i've seen cars with the wing window busted out and the tag either removed or relocated being obviously stolen and not calling about them...except for 1 time when i saw a guy on campus and he pulled up next to me with the window down the system bumping...the back wing window busted out and i saw wires all over the place on the steering column...ohh yea it was like 20 degrees outside Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I dont leave anything in my pathy that may potentially attract thieves. Few years back somebody keeps breaking in my rig just to steal my smokes and change in the ashtray,never touched the radio. I once caught him and took off and left his bike laying on my fence, I was going to take his bike and cut it all up but my wife told me its not worth it. This is a no win situation,you cant shoot them or beat that punk with a baseball bat coz youll end up in jail. My claims adjuster is nice enough that a few times my supra got broken in he gave me enough money that it covered my deductable too and no out of pocket expense. I am pretty sure I could figure out a way to get around ANY theft deterrent available. And a professional thief has way more experience than I.... The objective is to make stealing your vehicle too time consuming or inconvenient for the ones you're worried about. For tweakers, putting the TC case in neutral would likely be plenty. They're looking for really easy marks. For a professional that really wants your particular vehicle, nothing will be enough. Alarm, pager, ignitition kill, exploding seat cushions, whatever. fordsho90 Posted March 29, 2007 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Like unc said a quick disconnect of the steering wheel and if you have a manual buy an adjustable shackle lock and lock your clutch and brake peddles together and for under 15 bucks your good to go. And dont keep anything of value in your ride like your oakleys you hang on your rearveiw mirror or your stereo that you forget to pull the face plate off of. Tweaker, geekers and dope fiends dont wanna steal your ride they want whats in it. I am an electrcian and I take my tools out EVERY NIGHT I dont care if I work an 8 hr. day or 15 hr. day 20 minutes a day saves me 1000's a year replacing tools. Just my .02 cents.
