Smart ! Red LEDs, I like it ! But did you loose the brighty whities for 'normal' use ? Personally, I have all interior lights set so they wont turn on unless I do it manually. It just destroys night vision and advertises that you are there and what you are doing... B

LOL, V6 has a VERY good point about the front end weaknesses. Glad to have another machinist with resources !! There is so much to go into, I recommend reading a lot and asking specific questions. I have a few basic CAD drawings for various parts, if you are interested, We'll talk about it. You have a STOCK auto; put an aftermarket tranny cooler on it ASAP and bypass the original. Thats the most important thing to do right now. How crazy do you want to get with your Pathy, and what is your budget ? B

Heh, cool !! Now, for the other 4... Hot August nights is a COOL event, but I hear it's been getting crazy lately. I didn't know you were in Reno ! When I got the truck in better shape we should meet up in Auburn and go to Forrest Hill to do some wheeling. I know there is a way in from Colfax if you don't want to loop around; I vaguely remember it, but with a map I could outline it. There are some nice lakes about 10-20 miles off of Cisco Grove exit that are nice camping and fishing, not much wheeling but few people also... B

I'm guessing that one of the reasons there were more hits/posts is that there were far fewer sites to choose from, and things were a bit more general ? With so many sites and forums these days, I think a lot of people just cruise for info or lurk. I know I do that sometimes. There just isn't enough time in the day to be posting topics at all the sites one visits all the time, much monitor and reply... Not to mention that the WD21 Pathys were newer then and were more exiting. A lot of the WD21 Pathys I see around here are used as basic vehicles and dont have any mods; these days they are regarded as cheaper, reliable vehicles for normal life. Don't start flaming me, but lets face it, modding and offroading R50's is the exception, not the rule. B

I highly doubt that... I don't have an auto, but neutral is neutral, as in not moving... I understand your concern about not ruining your truck and there is no harm in asking, but I dont think shifting needs to go in the Tech section. B

Hey Red, I'd suspect exhaust (manifold leak obviously), valves, then motor in that order. How many miles on the motor ?? Had it been reasonably maintained and do you treat it nicely or do you rev the piss out of it. Have you tried the old 'put a screw driver on something and put your ear on the end of it and listen' trick ? That can help a lot. A metalic noise from the engine is easily discernable from exhaust this way. If you ever see stethiscopes anywhere cheap, BUY THEM ! They help out a lot. I passed by a set about 1 year ago without thinking and have been cursing it ever since !! B

I can't remember the last time I had 1 vehicle (thats not counting motorcycles), hence forth I never have a NICE vehicle (other than motorcycles)... The vehicle that the Pathy replaced is my beloved old 720 Kingcab 4x4 PU. It was the BEST vehicle I have ever owned. Period. Reliability was incredible ! Repairs were fairly easy and cheap. Drove it almost every day for 11 years and it left me stranded 3 times (minor like alternator). Slower than hell !! 106 HP is what the stock Z24 motor put out and bigger tires didn't help. Drove 2000 miles in baja on one trip without a single issue, even when I was jumping it. Wheeled it everywhere and never got stuck, I swear that thing was an amphibious lizard ! When I sold it, everything needed some attention, I didn't have the place and time to deal with it and wanted more power and lower miles. Thats one of the reasons I think the Pathy V6 is just fine. Broke my heart to sell her, but since I'm not rich, I have to make hard choices sometimes. If I am ever in the position to set up a vehicle mainly for offroading, I would pick that model with that engine, and go from there. Geez, I'm getting all nostalgic now. Hey Kn0xville, your bug is SWEET ! Even with that crappy photo I can see 1/2 the work you have done and I'm impressed ! Check out my project; it's about 1/2 done. I don't know the ABS system on these things, but since it happened on loose gravel, have you done the obvious and crawled under/removed wheels to see if you have any rocks stuck anywhere ?? Thats where I would start.... B

Slow down people, I didn't say a SB chevy couldn't fit, I just said it wouldn't slip right in and it would need some creative mods. Hell you could put a viper V10 in if you wanted. Have have time, skill and $ ready though... B

*HASMAT crew arrives* Um, is the X the new or real pathfinder ? No, because it's called the Xterra and there is a Pathfinder model. Is it what the new Pathy should have been ? Yes. We are talking Pathfinder model here, off to another poll with your nappy behinds !! B

Those might work, but look a bit square. With our flared wheel wells, they would stick out a mile and look silly without 12.5"+ wide tires. Of course, trimming is always an option... B

I agree with MZ. Best thing is to have someone 'experienced' guiding you. Manuals are useful also. Tools are just general automotive stuff until you get to the races. Local shops will press out old and press in new fairly cheap if you don't want to monkey with it. To me, for learning and relative simplicity, it's worth doing yourself and saving several $60/hr charges. Oh, snap ring pliers are definitely recommended ! B

Sounds like a body lift is appropriate then also. You may want to buy or make a snorkel also... B
