Yes, dizzy as in spinning 'round and 'round. The only way I can see that 'moving' its self is if it is not seated correctly, and the gear skips occasionally, but I honestly doubt that as you did not pull it and would probably notice it. Might be worth checking the condition of the gear teeth if you cant anything else. Check your manual for the TDC relocation process if you do. I cant think of anything else right now. Go get her and start checking... Hopefully you can find something simple. Keep us informed. B

Yes, it does. I didn't think about it because if it hasn't been messed with, it wouldn't change by it's self. But then I don't know what Red did when he was under the hood, so it very well could be the culprit. Rebuilding an old VW, I once put the dizzy in 180 off, that was a head scratcher for a few hours !! B

I really hardly know it at all, other than it is generally fairly easy to convert to, the power is a little less so more consumption, it burns cleaner (but not exactly clean), it is cheaper and it is not feasibly available here in the US. Hmm, wonder why ?? I see it as an intrem solution to oil 'shortages' but nothing more as the resources are similiar and it still greatly effects the environment. To me the next step is hydrogen. Burning it, not this fuel cell crap, thats the industries trying to profiteer on their systems. What do you thing the efficiency rating for electric motors are ? Not that good. Why waste the energy rather than burn it direct ? If you want to do the whole regenerative braking thing, fine, then store it, and plug it in when you get home to use or sell back to the electric companies. People with self sustaining home systems that produce extra do exactly that. Seriously, anyone who doesn't believe we have and are screwing up the very nature we depend on for life is an idiot. Time for 'clean' energy folks, as clean as we can make it. As for the safely issue of having a pressurised tank aboard, well drive mellow, pay attention and quit running into things and each other !! Ok, wasn't saying you screwed up, just asking. Still did it crack, bulge or boil over ? These can be symptoms of different causes. What brand, how old was it ? I don't know much about the Red Tops, but price wise, how do they compare to a $70 conventional car battery thats good for 5-7 years ? B

No, I don't know the exact parameters for internal combustion of hydrogen, just that it is not difficult, but I do know compression happens in the cylinder, 10:1 easy. I will look up the BMW system for more information... B

Ok, thanks mate ! I sort of understand... But honestly, doing that is not much easier than just pulling the T-bars. Just mark things with a punch. I had time, and changed the TO bearing, the TOB collar, the spring and retaining clip, not to mention installing a remanufactured fly wheel and cleaned out the entire housing so it was much easier to have it all the way out of the way and accessable. If you are just replacing the clutch plate and pressure plate, I can see where it may save some time. B

Never having worked on the truck before (only owned it 2 months) the clutch was the first thing I did. Just went by the manual. What is the trick for not pulling the T-bars, surely you can describe it !! B

Shiet Red !! I don't know the TBI system at all, but it sounds like you are getting compression blowby at the intake valves if you have a gas "fine mist" spraying up. I've seen this on a totally different vehicle that would cough and then ignite the mist. Scared the crap out of me to see the air filter housing bulge and jump !! It was worse with the lid off, the flames almost stole my eyebrows. Sorry, I digress. How old is the timing belt ? Is the tension correct ? Could it have jumped on the cam(s) ? Any chance of abrasive or oil destructive crap getting in the engine (wearing valve guides or seats) ? Still, that it noticably got worse is odd. The truck is probably ok, don't worry about it. At least it is the weekend so you have some time ? Know anyone with a big truck so you can dolly or trailer it home ? Keep us posted ! B

Aww, come on !! If you have decent tools, a place to work on it and don't have to drive it the next day, it's not that bad !! No, its not the easiest, but nothing to cry about. The only part that really annoys me is maybe having to have the front end aligned because of removing the T-bars. When I had mine aligned the tech said "One side was higher than the other so I lowered the high one to make it even..." WTF !! Asked him if he noticed it was a truck with suspension lift. "Yes", "Then why the hell did you crank one down rather than the other up ? It's a 4x4, right ?" He looked pretty funny then. Sheesh, maybe he thought I wanted it lowered with spinners... Hope you get your truck soon Steve, better not to rush them and get garbage work though... B

Gee, thanks lgranch !! I love it GG, the PO fixed it by breaking it !! unccp, just think, if you cross drill it well, you won't have the weight of it slowing down your motor when it is rising !! And if you need extra HP, put "Type R" stickers on the fenders, that'll have you smoking tires !! B

Hey Bud, thats normal for the 1000rpm atlernator bit. Most cars don't charge or well at idle. A common misperception that a lot of people have; jumping a car with a dead battery and just letting it idle for a while is not only bad for the motor, it doesn't charge the battery much. Driving the car does... Put your idle back to where it belongs (800-850rpm) and forget about it. Remember, normally, your battery only has draw when you start the car, everything else generally runs off of the alternator (the exception is if you have a crazy stereo amp or a gazillion hi power lights, then you need 2 batteries and/or higher watt alternator). When you drive, even short distances, the alternator tops off the battery for the next start. You are fine... B

Hey Bud, did the battery case split, and the acid run out or did the battery boil over ? Either way, you may have something goofy with the wiring of the lights or the alternator could be bad... I've had batterys fail on me in 2 miles, but never self destruct !! Find the cause before you fix the symptom. Personally I'm a big fan of Interstate batterys... Oh, height adaptor is probably just a riser plate... B

Well said lgranch ! Only problem with refinerys on the coast is that the ocean already has such high concentrations of heavy metals that some fish are not good eating any more. That is simply astounding when you stop and think about it !! The answer is that there are no good places for refinerys. Exactly earth1 !! Don't forget solar and wind !! What we need to do is use solar power (and others) to create electricity for use in breaking down water into H and O2. It is easy to make an engine to run on hydrogen and all it produces is heat and steam. Completely 'free' energy that does not significantly impact the natural cycle and balance. Gee, what a concept !!! Of course, smaller better designed vehicles would help also but 75% of Amurikans would never go for that. B

Wheelman, I understand what you are saying; I was rather fiesty at that age myself. BUT... What makes you say that, just stop and think before you answer. If you are always speeding, cutting things close and passing illegally, I'd say it is quite likely that it will be your fault. Remember that someone else can do something stupid yet you will be partly or fully to blame due to 'illegal' actions. A lot of the time, there is a driver who is very dejected or sobbing saying something like 'I just looked away for a second' or 'I thought I could make the light' or something. "Yes, kinda" mainly because all the Hummers, Bradleys, Abrams, helicopters, jets use a LOT of gas. Did you know the US petroleum reserve is almost full for the first time in history ? Bush has been fattening the oil barons, and they have shown record profits during his admin. On the other hand, we have had cheaper gas prices than the rest of the world for a LONG time. Why is it we sell most of our produced oil to Japan and other countries if we need it so bad here ?? I say get ready for $3-3.5 a gallon pretty soon. It certainly wont go down; China needs all it can buy. Supply and demand... B
