After doing some research, I decided that I was going to buy a Pathfinder. Once I bought it, I had to work on it of course (whether it needed it or not...) but I think the first thing I did was the clutch. After reading in the manual about disassembling 1/2 the truck, I did a web search to find more info/tips/tricks. And here I am... At least, I think thats how it happened... That was a year ago; you don't expect me to remember, do you ? B

Nope, and no thanks... Not listening !! Do you ride a scooter MZ ? The damn things are dangerous ! A small motorcycle gets close to the same milage as it is not floored all the time and is much more useful/versatile and will last a lot longer and have better resale value. I hear you about not needing licensing/saving $, but how much $ did you save when you get run into a ditch or car and break a leg or arm ?? Not trying to bash you Bud, but I have had this conversation with people many times before. Personally, I would never go the scooter route. Small motorcycle is the best option in my experience. B

YOW Diesel Boy, that hurts !! $1.67 is insane, they had better set up good mass transit, and soon ! I'm not working and will be moving, but I plan on getting a 400cc enduro to save on gas and have fun in the bush... B

Dude, buy a small freeway legal motorcycle (185cc+ here) rather than a scooter. First off, scooters are lame. Second and MOST important, they are more dangerous !! You cant get away from anything by hitting the gas, and cars will crowd you until you are riding on the side of the lane and they are passing you. Bad news !! I have seen it a thousand times. Don't go there ! Also you sit 'in' a scooter and 'on' a motorcycle... If isht hits the fan, you cant get out of/away from a scooter fast enough. Obviously, make your own choices, but as a rider for 25 years, I strongly recommend against it !!! Get a Honda 250 enduro (on/off road), it will get 40-50 MPG, be much safer, and will take you down the trails the pathy cant. B

Really all it is doing is cooling down the radiator and since there is no coolant flow, the fan continues when there is no point (how long depends on where the sensor is located). A cool radiator is good, but that only lasts 1-2 minutes when the engine is warm. I have looked into/considered the electric fan option, but I would set it up with 3 settings... Off, sensor triggered, and on regardless. When I do this, the off setting would be used when I park. Just my .02 B

I'm just guessing, but I think that using a K&N filter insert in the stock box (if there are enough air flow vents) is a very happy meduim for stock motors. As I understand, it is the exhaust that is restrictive point. B

Stick this MZ... B

^ What he said. Tune ups are way cheaper and diesel = low end torque = superior wheeling... B

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I carry a cheapo 6' telescoping fishing rod just to measure depths when uncertain... B

When the truck/fan clutch is cold (we'll assume the scientic standard of 68F or 20C) and you try to spin the fan (clutch) it shouldn't freewheel more than about 1/4 turn . Also, when you start it, you shouls be able to hear a difference in fan noise in about 15-45 seconds or so... The fan clutch usually effects temperature at idle as when in motion the wind blowing through the radiator provides the air flow. Your thermostat could be stuck or obstructed. Also, what does the inside of the radiator look like ? And scale or corrosion ? That will insulate it and reduce the efficiency. Do you want it in Newtons or should I calculate the coefficient of friction for you ? Sheesh, some people !! B

While WD-40 is better than nothing, it is not really a penetrant per se. Read this for options... http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5495 repeated applications and allowing it to soak is highly rcommended. Also, giving it a few sharp whacks with a hammer (without damaging the wrench flats) can break loose rust and corrosion. If it is still stubborn, try heating up the pipe around the sensor with a torch to expand the metal. If you don't have a torch, you can buy one for $20 and they are handy for all sorts of other things. Spot welds usually have to be ground (filed, etc) off. Good luck ! B

Er, check the MAF wiring connector, there have been issues with them before. Also check for vacuum/intake leaks. The best way to do this is have it running and spray WD-40 strategically at possible leak points. If the RPM increases, you have found a leak. I believe the trick is to turn on the ignition with the battery disconnected and tap the brakes a few times. The lights will 'discharge' the system immediately. Good luck and keep us informed ! B

I don't have an auto and I'm struggling to remember what it is about the auto shifter... I think there is some electronic shifter position sensor or something but I'm not sure if that would cause what you are describing. I'm not sure where that info is so you may want to try searching for it. Perhaps it could be a connection/selenoid issue at the tranny ? Lets see if this sparks any responses or corrections. Be patient and good luck. B

Great info and follow up Red !! I like that Yota trailblazer, it looks pretty well set up and capable. I don't have big enough tires to make use of flares that size and I think I like the idea of the rubber ones V6 has over fiberglass as they would be much more resilient and less likely to break or get torn off. Still, it's another great option for the people with ginormous tires... B

LMAO kmgar99 !!! Yes, a foreign life form has obviously assumed the identity of your wife. All in all it sounds pretty good ! Where can I get one ? B

I don't know the O2 sensor set up on the 98s, but if the ECU says its dead, believe it (cant hurt to check the wiring first though). As for the hard starting, does the motor crank slower ? That would be the battery... It may be the dead O2 sensor is confusing the ECU at start up and it is setting wierd mixtures that may make the motor more difficult to start. That would involve more cranking time. Which is it ? B
-
Do yourself a favor and check as many sensor related electrical connections as possible. A little dirt and corrosion goes a long way. B
-
Ahh, yes, forgot about that.... You have officially been relegated to the "when we have nothing else to do' list. I hate places like that ! Something to remember for the future. Don't go there for service, they are obviously only interested in profit. B
-
Don't bother holding off on the poly bushings mws, just get the neo to be sure. If I'm wrong (and you do it right) I'll pay for a rubber bushing set (after I inspect your work) but the labor is on you... Seriously, that (type) stuff works VERY well. I doubt you will have issues with it other than getting it to smear or getting it off anything it touches. B

Why are they only starting 1 week after it was supposed to be done... I'd point that out and start knocking $'s off the bill... B
-
Seems to me like you are running into things a lot... Stop playing with the ebrake and pay attention to whats going on !! That sucks K, but you have to admit that it isn't all someone elses fault. B

I saw $3.19.9/gal on San Francisco today for Chevron. 2 blocks later a no name was $2.77.9/gallon. WTF ?? All I know is it is going up and not comming down ! B
-
It has flitted across the logical part of my brain a few times, and the dominant, illogical part just punts the idea into next week... Having 2 motorcycles, 1 vw bug and the pathy just tells me to cut down. I may sell 1 or 2 bikes (2=buy 1) and have a profit, finish the VW project for fuel sipping milage, and the Pathy stays ! Even if I don't drive it much, it doesn't cost a lot to sit most the time and it is my 'urban escape pod' be it he!!, high water, bombs, or a badly needed trip into the hills. Depending on how things go I may add a econobeater if necessary. B
-
LMAO... Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, etc... They are all yours as a gift. Oh, that makes Bush a foreigner and inellegible for presidency... DAMN !! I say an ebay add last week for a french vintage rifle.... The title was "French rifle, Perfect condition. Never fired, dropped once..." B
-
Earth1 !! I'm glad you are doing a comparison of the two, although I'm fairly certain both will work well. The Neo sounds like what came with my poly bushings. I'm looking forward to hear your opinion after long term use. Thanks ! B
