  2. House paint wont look good or last at all on a car...spray paint is your best cheap alternative if you are good with it, I think Tex did that and it turned out good...and HD doesnt give its own employees discounts, so none for anyone else... And I notice we have 2 aero engineers...jeez thats an unlikely gathering...well I will have a B.S. in civE and maybe a minor in ME, and a masters in either ME or business...lots of schooling ahead...
  3. Home Depot Paint Associate First job out of high school, did it cuz it was a manly thing to do (it worked too). Need the job to support my mod addiction during college and to pay for necessities like Top Ramen and plastic forks and such...i just steal the trash bags out of the bottom of the big ones in buildings (I know the trash lady's secret stash)
  4. If you guys are planning something let me know! If I have the funds and the time my ass will be coming down from MD, I could bring Dan down too if he wants to come (Don't think he will wheel the Teg)
  5. I like the whole "premium" member that some forums do, maybe with the premium membership yearly fee you get a T shirt or a sticker or something...I would love one or more of those...
  6. Looks very nice man, congrats! Now how do you think it rides compared to stock? I think it actually handles better lifted...at least mine with AC components
  7. I hear that, that VG33 was a royal pain in the arse...the VQ35 is MUCH easier to replace, and nowhere near as messy
  8. I don't know about Napa Gold, but the Mobil1 is actually slight longer than the stock filter...also I never had an issue with the price since the cost vs. replacement time for the oil and the filter are cheaper this way...
  9. The stock SE wheels are 7" wide, but they are aluminum. If you have the stock chrome steelies from an XE, you need to make sure they are wide enough for a 265 tire...
  10. Actually it does "soak" into the metal...watch the videos, i have seen it on multiple car shows on Speed...
  11. I really wnt to try that stuff but its too expensive, I will stick with Lucas Oil Synthetic stabilizer for the oil and seafoam for the gas...
  12. Some of the forums do a "premium" membership for like $10 a year. I also support the motion to put a link up on the top of the main page, a lot of non regulars said they would donate b/c this site has saved them so much. Sending my support now, not much during the semester but during the summer I can donate more.
  13. I am staying with 265/65R17. They rub a little at full lock, I have no interest in trimming for the 265/70's. And I think they fill it out well enough...
  14. I didnt need a spring compressor on either side. Just jack do what 01silva said, but unbolt both the shock and the sway bar on both sides. Then jack up the opposite side to further lower the axle to install. None of my brake lines or anything even got tight while doing this...
  15. And heres hopefully a really helpful pic Remember the X rims are 17x8, I don't know about backspacing but hopefully that helps
  16. Yes they clear the stock strut, but not by much. Mine are 265/65R17 on the X rims, here are the pics without the spacers... Then I added the 1.5" wheel spacers ONLY to move the wheels flush with the fender flares... And now the X rims on the 01 with the wheel spacers...
  17. I thought I said I didn't have any techincal reasons in one of my posts, but it is simply speculation because I have found the mileage increase with regular on the highway in high compression engines to be true..
  18. I agree with all of this except the bolded statement. I think that statement is true everywhere except for on the highway. I have heard and had experience with my ML that it got better mileage with lower octane on the highway. As I said before I think that the lower octane fuel is easier for the high compression engine to burn on the highway...just my guess but I do know that lower octane fuel yields higher mileage on the highway...
  19. glad to hear you got a job, mine is only part time while im in college and sucks horribly but i am clinging to it b/c i dont know if i could find another that pays a part time college student as well...scary times. and Brian: Didn't you just have a kid? Is this another one? If so congrats man, thats awesome
  20. My RS9000XL's were both very hard to compress by hand on the softest setting, impossible on the stiffest. Also, both of mine wanted to extend under no load...
  21. My owner's manual in the 01 has all the info on both the VG33 and the VQ35 (I have no clue why). Making the switch to synthetic in the VG made it so much smoother, the VQ didn't seem to make much of a difference (just peace of mind with the clogging issues, mine isn't burning yet and I plan to keep it that way). Also, I second the Restore motion, I used that in my Accord at 160k and my ML320 at 200k and it made both of them feel much smoother through the RPM range, I have only used the Lucas Oil Synthetic stabilizer in both R50's but I like that a lot too...
  22. I definitely agree about performance, hence why I only use it when I am on a long cruising trip. I don't have concrete numbers for my pathfinder but I found (along with many others on benzworld) in my ML that highway mileage increased with the 87 octane. I have used 87 a couple of times in my pathfinder and it seemed to give about a 1mpg better result, however I haven't had a long enough highway trip to really tell.
  23. Owner's manual? I don't understand what your contesting, but my VG33 ran much better switching from dino to synthetic oil than increasing octane, and there wasn't even a but dino difference, so I don't mess with it.
