  1. i didnt mean to make it sound like the CMS was leaking I just wanted to ID the clutch fork for you and say thats where mine is leaking as well
  2. I was thinking that as well GG b/c most of that is good up to a reasonable temperature but I think the issue would be not over torquing the bolts or the plastic cracking over time which could get a little ugly I think unless you carried a spare shifter and snap ring pliers then just swap it back out to stock quickly... steel would be cheaper but may be more costly in tooling and what not and i think the weight savings between aluminum and steel for a part this size is negligible Cheaper aluminum can be purchased at scrap yards I know in Harrisburg NC there was FOILS Inc and you could pick something like this up for $1.25/lb so maybe $20 may and you could probably even score some 2024 or 7075 (which would be overkill)
  3. the mechanical cable back out of the transmission?
  4. smell it...you'll know if its not engine oil. my gear oil is uhh yellowish/brown agree from: I don't think thats a cable...i think thats a hydro line from the clutch master cylinder and the lever for the clutch fork...if that boot is ripped like it is on my 95 then yes oil will leak from there too from a RMS...i really should crawl under mine and snap some pix
  5. Just to lower costs for someone (mcmaster-carr www.mcmaster.com has 6061 for under $60 and since its not structural i don't see any complications with using this material):
  6. my 95 has been pissing oil from the RMS sense it was installed almost 3 years ago (i think that retainer spring fell off or something)...its just now getting to the point that its a bad leak and luckly i havent gotten any oil on the clutch yet changing the seal itself is easy...its getting to it thats the "hard" part and its really not hard its just a lot of work and you need the tools/manpower to do it but it can be done with one person...just takes a lot of ingenuity, cussing and muscle fatigue...the thing with the pathy is you can't really get under the tranny and hold it in place with 1 hand while you start some bolts (this is what I did on the 02 SS camaro that I changed the clutch on by myself...crawled under the car put the tranny on my chest and got it in place with one arm nad started bolts with the other) I'm not near a big enough boy to heave this nissan tranny around and probably would struggle with that camaro one now
  7. crawl under and check it out...oil tends to run down from anywhere and get to the Xover pipe...maybe you're lucky and its just the valve covers... If your tranny was leaking you'd know the difference in the fluid just by the smell (I like to think of gear oil as a strong onion smell) it cannot be mistaken for the smell of oil (unless its old sludged oil that can be kinda potent too) Ahh its ok to let the gf drive the truck...I let the ex drive mine maybe a total of 6 times in the 4 years we dated but she enjoyed driving it (and wheeling in it) but we were both in the same...i drove her integra (embarassing low rider with a fart cannon) when the white truck died and she was heading out of town for a week and i had no way of getting around and I drove her Jetta a couple of times and she drove my camry a couple times...but our cars were our cars and noone else really drove them...I can say she is the only person besides me to drive my 87 since I purchased it from a guy when i was 16
  8. that sounds like it'd be a RMS if its leaking between the engine and tranny...its a lot of work for a little seal...mine is starting to get as bad as yours in my 95...but not quite there about 1 qt per oil change
  9. no...its a lot of work but far from rebuilding the whole engine A friend of mine wrapped tin foil around the exhaust crossover on his old heep thick enough (almost a full roll i think) that the heat didnt get hot enough to burn off the oil so it ran around the foil and dripped off without burning but honestly I don't see how you can smell it burning off of the Xover pipe...mine is leaking pretty bad (its coated the whole underside of the truck) and i don't smell burning oil and my nose is like a freakin police K9s now I would think you could smell burning oil if you spilled oil after hte last oil change and it dropped on the RH manifold or if your valve covers have loosened up and its dripping off the back corners onto the exhaust
  10. Nice...now I need to find out what day exactly i purchased those mud rovers...thanks for the info
  11. what did you use as a tool for the flares? foam? they look decent from far away how man plies 5? what glass and resin did you use? sorry i've been doing aerospace stuff and just curious to what would be good for flares...most of the stuff i've used i dont know how durable it would be for flares...
  12. yea i meant for the BWs...i got a hellofa deal on some HB BW's for the 2drs and uhh yea the fuel door had a notch in the flares that was in front of the fender...doh...but at least i resold them and made some $
  13. $80 isnt bad...a coworker just lost about $2k on a mustang that he couldn't get smogged in CA
  14. $500 ain't bad for what you got...at least ya didnt really loose a whole lot of $ on it the horn may have been an easy fix (mine quit working when the lil copper electrode wore down and I put some washers under the contractor ring to make it contact again) I know a guy who got an 88 for 2 beer bottle tops (b.c thats what was in his pocket) he hated the truck but it was a good stand in for his WRX since hew as going on his 5th engine (the guy building it was a moron but replaced all of them for free) he's now had the truck for 3 years and still will not give it up for anything even though he bashed it for a while and it looks like a huge red turd with creased sheet metal all around
  15. I know in the WD21's the OEM clutch has a ridiculous spring load from the fingers but the aftermarket OEM replacements feels that there is almost no spring for the TO bearing to overcome
  16. slick i think you meant not so far future... do you mind me asking what you paid for it? the things listed if you were mechanically inclined would have probably only $400 max to fix yourself but I guess what's done is done... Did you check the vehicle out before purchasing or was this like an ebay deal? Hope you get something thats a little better be it another pathy or other make/model
  17. i see the difference in the flares now: stock: bushwacker: you may be able to call some of these places and see if they have set actually in stock http://www.google.com/products?q=pathfinde...=en&show=dd
  18. you could try those "offroad" vent visors...i don't particularly like them but it may be an alternate solution. I don't see why the 2 dr and 4 dr flares are any different except for maybe the rears but I know the OEM flares are interchangeable...I do know you cant use the right rear flare off of a HB on the pathy though b/c of the fuel door location Maybe the fiberglass fenders that AC sells would give you that coverage not really sure what the "4" bulge" I would think that means that it is 4" wider
  19. nice...i remember those fronty crash pix (not the one he's building)...that was pretty brutal
  20. He's still around in Nissan's? I haven't talked to him in about a year and a half or more...he does nice work from what i've seen I don't think NC will worry with a CL...I've only had 1 complete thorough inspection done and that was after i got smart with the guy over my exhaust leak and how it would pass OBDII so he started the inspection and then found out it didnt have OBDII and i was like see i told you so they did everything including the headlight adjustment and inspecting wheel bearings and whatever else when usually its a honk of the horn turn signals brake lights and fluids check
  21. ouch...that sucks...glad you're alright...Looks like you have a decent amount of aftermarket parts you can use on a new truck...if you were closer I was going to tell you that you could have my 95 body after i stripped it but I don't think it could be justified to ship it there.
  22. 2 10 mm nuts through the rear access panels...they're kinda a PITA to get to but not too bad
  23. For me the burnout isnt a display of power...burnouts are moreso one of those testosterone things that are fun to do from time to time...in my case getting new tires I've been driving my 95 for the past week now and its been raining here quite a bit so I've been playing around a lot more than I usually do (have been through with drawls of RWD) I've got a video somewhere back home that I could try to load up on photobucket or youtube once i get back to CA (the avatar is a screenshot from it) WheelmanLS1 had a video clip somehwere (part of his avatar has the burnout too i believe)
