Need to add soon...I useta have a ride along but my pathy wasnt working but she'd "help" me work on the truck and would only jump in my car with me and no1 else...now since me and the ex are split i havent seen her in 5 months (to actually play with her) but the last time i saw her was about a month ago and she was in the back seat of the ex's new car and as soon as she saw me she wound up with paws on the dash watching me as they drove by but here's the old partner in crime...(in about 2 month's i'll be getting a smooth coat border collie and she'll be named Dixie)

Speedy VG30E Replacemtn / Rebuild tricks
unccpathfinder replied to SteeevO's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
glad to hear you got it done steve...never got a call from ya so i figured you were getting it taken care of without any major issues -
SC if it is for sure coming apart I will have all the parts to do a 5 spd conversion with the exception of the tranny (b/c the one in my 95 right now is kinda sketchy) i'm sure you could find the tranny fairly reasonable and could work out a pretty good price on everything else good luck...sorry i'm not much help on this topic

cant find my picture right now but it used to be my old avatar...yes you smoke the tires in one these...i actually left a decent set of tire marks last friday...it was a down shift into 2nd coming around a corner and i dumped the clutch just b/c my buddy was rushing me...when we left i left a lot more rubber than what I had anticipated...he told me that the smoke was pretty decent and when we left in their RV i probably left 20' of tire tracks (more so on the LR than the RR since i'm open but you could see the nubs off of the mud rovers) but no its not going to be like a V8...and yes you can power brake it and get a good amount of smoke coming off the tires...theres also a lot of youtube videos out there...surprised that noone has bashed ya up too bad yet for burnouts The best car my 87 had under its belt was a 98 or 99 camaro...he had his chick with him and pulled up to my left and gave me some revs...i laughed looked over and uhh revved back...the light turned green...I had staged up to about 3500 and dumped the clutch...spun the tires...he stalled out...it was great he didnt look at me at the next light...and he didnt go for round 2... 4 lo on some grass/dirt (do not do this on hard pack) will spin all 4 uhh well 2 easily

Broken Key and my adventures from last night
unccpathfinder replied to unccpathfinder's topic in General Forums
yea i think it is from being cycled...i noticed it was right at the "flip door" to keep dirt out of the lock which would put it in a shear/couple each time the door is unlocked or locked -
hmm you could always dremil a V in the castle nut hit it with a chisel to get the V out and taht should release the nut...if not do one on the opposite side and it'll just fall into 2 pieces...
-
awesome i assume your replacing BJ's with the UCA's? if not just undo the top 4 bolts and call it good replace it and bolt it back up
-
my washers got hammered bc i beat them off with a hammer/press it was a PITA...I think you want to replace the washers (or flatten them back out with a ballpeen)...I think you may need a press to get the new bushings in as well but could be mistake...mine are laying in the floor of my truck b/c i need a press to get mine in and i dont have access to one now Before you go remove those make sure someone with a calmini chimes in since they're from different manufacturers
-
you gotta press that sleeve off of the OEM rod (at least i did with mine but i dont have calmini)...suggest soaking in PB prior
-
it can be done...i've removed and installed a tranny by myself 2 times now...fixin to remove my 4th one alone and do the 3rd install in the next month or so...you just have to be creative and safe...2 people makes it a lot less painful...

Broken Key and my adventures from last night
unccpathfinder replied to unccpathfinder's topic in General Forums
Well here was my problem: -
could you take the larger diameter of the cone and the smaller diameter of the cone then the height (thickness) divide the diameters by 2 to get teh vertical and horizontal leg of a "triangle" and then use geometry to figure out the angle? ____________________ |......large radius (D/2)/ |................................./ |................................/ |.............................../ |thickness ( CL?)..../ <----taper angle |............................./ |............................/ |.........................../ |_____________/ small radius (d/2) just a suggestion ignore the periods the post wouldnt let me space the "/" out for the sketch...if you draw it to scale you can extend the diagonal down to extrapolate the height for the full triangle and back out the angle...if you give me the dims i can do it for ya

Broken Key and my adventures from last night

yea thats how mine is but my FOB is in NC (now on the way to me UPS) but as long as you get the door open you have i think 15-30 seconds to rip the steering column off and short across the #3 position which will disable the alarm (thinks key is in ignition) and you turn the switch to off on the center console and then take time to clip wires and hotwire and get get rid of the steering lock... or simply pop the hood and disconnect the battery turn switch to off hook battery up and clip PA wires for a backup so who now will relocate their alarm switch (this is all for the factory alarm) I hate being an engineer b/c I always look at the deficiencies in the system and how to get around it and for your everyday radio thief the alarm is enough but for your pro car thief working for a chop shop will find a way around it its a good thing i'm not into the pathfinder spare parts business especially since I can strip one with care alone in less than 12 hours -
Well it's been snowing/icy up here at work so i've been driving the truck to work...well on monday the new guy rode his BMW motorcycle to work and it got really bad up here so he rode back home with me and then i brought him in yesterday and it was still too icy so he rode back again last night... well I know most WD's with power locks have experienced the freakshow locks...well i found with mine if i go to the passenger side hit above the lock and jiggle the key it'll unlock and stop freaking out...so when i hit unlock last night he pulled on the handle and we had the battle of the locks...well i go over to unlock his side and dont even crank on the key hard and snap..."oh fskc" well i was able to fish out the broken piece what pisses me off is the drivers side door closed so the truck is locked and i have no key...well the ignition has been changed so i still have a key for that no biggie...so i start making a slim jim (since mine that i bought the other day was 35 miles away when i locked my keys in the truck and my spare key is in NC) so i start making one out of a 24" ruler and find out that its too wide and I cannot cut the 1/4" off of the lenght that i need to make it work with the tools I have. I debate on calling AAA and the fire department but don't want to wait around and really don't want to carry a slim jim everywhere i go in case the doors get locked and out of my habits they would get locked and i'd be up @!*% creek again...we also ran to the dollar store (bought a slim jim back east there) and autozone which i got lectured on how it is illegal to buy slim jims in CA and i explain taht i bought one for $13 a couple days ago and the guy told me i was lying and blah blah so i then go to the bank and grab some cash b/c i know i'm about to drop some $...so I call a mobile locksmith and he tells me $75 to make a key on the spot so i'm like @!*%...He shows up and i ask him if its still $75 and he was like well i'll make it $60 since you asked so i'm like cool Guy comes out and by now the wind is blowing about 10-15mph and its well below 30F...He makes 1 key and no go..he makes a 2nd key and it opens the door but then won't do it again...the 3rd key some thing no dice and i'm holding the light for him as he files and works his magic. He finally makes a 4th key and it works better than the original...he told me $65 since he burned 3 blanks so I gave the guy $70 for coming out at 6:45PM in the freezing ass cold and instead of giving up after the 1st 3 keys he continued on a personal vendetta to make a key that worked correctly... After dinner, a beer and the ride home I got in at 9:15 which gave me enough time to sit down and talk to the roommate drink another beer and go to bed...i'll try to grab a pic of the key...i think it was prestressed b/c it broke pretty clean and I didnt torque on it hard at all...This is the 1st time I have ever broken a key off and was not such a great experience but could have been much worse...it broke right at the base of the lock and left enough that i could pull it out with my fingers and not even get out the leatherman Fun night but I guess it's better it happened here than in the middle of nowhere.

How to identify year of engine?
unccpathfinder replied to blackboat's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
someone swapped out the cam and crank gears so they didnt have to change the TB as frequently? I thought about selling my round toothed gears for someone who wanted to increase their lifespan on the TB -
does a 92 have a check engine light?
unccpathfinder replied to Channel595's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
pull the cluster and pull 1 bulb at a time and shine a flashlight behind it...you'll find it eventually...if you have a bright enough light you can shine it on the front face and be able to see it...i'm not sure exactly where it is but you should be able to find it -
i've got the same thing going on...i'm writing it off as the u-joints...i've noticed it in 1st and sometimes in 2nd...my buddies bronco was slamming a lot harder than mine and he replaced all of his joints and it went away...i need to get onto it before something bad happens...but thats why i was carrying trail spares for both front and rear driveshafts...
-
i've got some Jim Conner Racing springs that are red...not sure you can designate what they are just by the color though...if its a you pull it maybe pull them and then compare it to a stock spring (diameter of coil and height of spring)not sure how to tell you to check to see how much lift it provides but it would let you know a lil more about the springs
-
install a 3" body lift and get a 90deg drill...you could unbolt the entire body and jack it up to get access trough the fenderwells...or pull the heads...or cut the inner fenders out and figure out how to fix it later to get access... none of which are easy but several different options
-
hmm my 95 does that but its MPFI and its b/c the fuel line is loose on the fuel rails...i guess the 87 could do this but highly doubt it...do you smell raw fuel and i'm assuming its on cold mornings...that doesnt really help but i mean you could start checking things like fuel pressure, change the fuel filter and start going through the ignition system or pulling codes from the ECU to see if it gives you an idea of what's going on
-
yea i got that from the word...but hadn't ever heard of it before... i guess some others for us were ruttin', rompin', stump jumpin' and crawlin i know someone around the board used mobbin and i'm still not sure what the connotation of that one is...
-
haha "that was get it into pieces big enough to take to the scrap yard in my landlords truck" I also mounted my amp to the subwoofer box. Kinda figured if I gotta remove the sub box for extra capacity the amp can come out as well! Good to hear from ya...I'm still awaiting my move to start stripping my 95 and get the ole 87 up and running...yea I had a blast down in Baton Rouge...we got some wheeling done and some beers drank and my buddy commited to his woman...it was good times i'm hoping to go back soon I was thinking last night on my way home that mounting it to the roof right in front of the rear speakers might be a nice place...but its just a matter of building up your own bracketry

thats a new one to me

Alright...i've been around the boards for a while and i've heard all kinds of slang terms for offroading...whether it be rocks, mud or whatever else there is...and i grew up on many different terms and figured i'd start a thread to see what folks had...i'll just mention one that I think is pretty unique to where i'm from and let the rest fall into place back home we used to go muddin' a lot but we never called it muddin' (and i guess its kinda a lie from above b/c muddin' is one of those terms" but me and my buddies and the folks in the area refred to it as Rootin' like a pig rootin in the mud or a dog rootin in their bed tryin to get comfy...I've never heard folks refer to it as that other than where i come from but its what we called it... let'em roll on out
-
well once again they werent concerned...i had some beers at the Xspot then ended up at the airport for a while...then ended up at the moose lodge until a while ago...the desert is going to be fun tomorrow...i've got a list of folks who want to go muddin' so if her car doesnt cooperate in the morning then eff it i got my own prerogative...go muddin then go climb the rocks right out of town and get to the top of that mountain...
