  1. what color smoke? just to make sure its actually oil you're burning...and if it is oil can't a bad PCV cause this too?
  2. Nice...yea I took my calipers and measured it when I went up there to NAPA when I got the universal tool b/c I had no idea what "universal" was going to give me Nah I have the tranny in...but I will be stocking this back into my tools. Thanks again
  3. its the abridged version of the FSM...check around the pinned section of here and there may be some helpful information and excerpts from the FSM
  4. busted timing belt would give 0 pressure on most cylinders b/c valves are going to be open except for 1 or 2 of them...maybe slipped some teeth but the belt itself isnt completely broken
  5. Never heard of this in a nissan... there are ways of getting keys but this sounds like an impound and/or a theft about to take place so if its the 1st option they have roll backs and locksmith tools... you can buy new lock cylinders and ignition to replace the existing if you're worried someone has keys to your truck...
  6. Yea I was having major problems in getting the old cold rubber to expand and let the the extension tube to be installed...i got it but i had to warm the filler neck up a good bit to make it more malleable yea my steering shaft is still short and I have beat the slip yoke as far as I could feeling safe and it still makes the splines kinda short on the top side so I'm gonna probably get it where I want it and weld it to be safe
  7. the 3" is supposed to be a lot more work from what I've read...after putting my 3" lift on it doesnt seem to be awful. I did 95% of it in a matter of a few hours. My issue right now is the steering shaft which I will finish pressing out to its limit then probably tack it or pin it so it can't come out since the splines will be near the limits. Other than that I need to replace my PS lines b/c they're cracking anyways and I don't want to relocate the resevoir I don't have my slave cylinder installed yet so I dont know if there will be a line length problem there but I doubt it b/c there was a nice "drip loop" for that line
  8. I tell ya what from having my truck down for 3 years...it doesn't pay to get in a rush to try and make a run...URE is nice but it's not going anywhere anytime soon so get the truck fixed right then go...u can always ride along and check it out/spot the battery can also show 12V but may be weak and not have the cranking amps to turn it over...also pull all of the plugs out this will reduce the work that the starter has to do by not overocming the compression on all 6 cylinders
  9. yep even when supported with an engine hoist...trying to jostle it around and get it where you need it is a good workout...2 days later and i'm feeling muscles i forgot i had... you don't happen to have a reference for that tool and a part number? i need to replace mine b/c damn that universal tool heh...i'll keep it though in case i help someone who doesnt get a tool or a shattered one like I got once and luckly i had my old tool still which is now MIA
  10. still did it shear hte nuts off or what...the axle shouldnt escape unless those 4 nuts or the "bearing locknut" weren't in place correctly they should seize up before walking out...
  11. u sure the batteyr is still good? i had that happen with a weak battery...go bakc and check the 1st one and if its low then the battery is dead...
  12. thats no good...so did the bolts shear off or what?
  13. glad you're getting it all worked out...i can't wait for my nightmare in the next couple of weekends...i found out that the CVs don't only have different bolt patterns from 1st gen to 2nd gen but different diameters so now i have to swap spindles...which i think they have different tapers on hte tie rods and CL and steering gear so i may be up fitting all of that stuff...joy good luck hope it works out
  14. bolt straight up as he said ...got my 95 doors waiting to be put on the 87...i dropped one so i have to fix a corner 1st....
  15. I dont think SC does...i know htey dont have inspections and insurance isnt required so why would they require mufflers...probably a Db level if anything
  16. i was calling her all kinds of bad names...i was so frustrated and sore the concrete and all of hte dirt falling off pretty much had my shoulders bleeding and I was out of cardboard ot throw down to keep them sorta insulated...i'm just glad its in now its on to the fun stuff synopsis: universal tool not all that bad after you make the diameter the same and hit the tapered collar good to make it center up the clutch disk with the pilot bushing...but still not as universal as i would like it...next person to do a clutch and doesnt want their alignment tool i'll gladly buy it
  17. haha...no fskc the sensorship for the efff word...yea i'm just glad it got done...i just got back from the moose lodge where they had some good pulled pork and a couple cold ones and now just relaxing playing some video games with a buddy back east before retiring for the evening
  18. i had no bolt alignment issues...i left the steering shaft alone for now just want to get hte damn tranny in...the 3" lift makes access to the bolts NICE
  19. round 2 = &^%*ing fail...this is starting to piss me off...beer 2 EDIT...BEER # 2 wins...i go out pop the top look at the truck and go fskc you bitch...put the wrench back on the crank turned it 3 times and THUD the shaft went right in the damn hole...
  20. oh yea...i tried wiggling jacking one rear tire up and cranking the crank hoping it would fall in the pilot bushing...i wiggled shook loosened wiggled and everything for about an hour b/c it usually takes me some time to get it in place... i just got the cltuch "realigned" or i hope...it was definitely missing hte pilot bushing i saw the copper on the output shaft...i measured the outpt and the "pilot" for the universal tool and it was like .02 off so i layered some eletcrical tape on it until it was good and then i beat the taper of the universal tool into place and it would slide in and out easily like it should be with the splined tool... i'm about to attemp to get the tranny back in place and lets just hope it goes right into place nad i can call it a day the friggin concrete has ate my shoulders up...time for beer 1
  21. im guessing they suck b/c i have the tranny up and the splines engaged but the tranny won't get any closer than 1/2 inch even when tightening down bolts...this &^%*ing BLOWS...dropping tranny back out to try to align it agian...
  22. Well I used to have 2 clutch alignment tools in my box...one for the pathy and one for a chevy....well guess which one is MIA...you got it the one I need...napa has a universal one but its $35 and i have afeeling its going to suck...on my way to get it but figured i'd post and if I don't get the tranny to align and everyone says it sucks and won't work worht a crap i know to give up for the day...
  23. shiit....the local wrecking yard is like an hour away...i live in BFE...but i'll keep that in mind as a thing to get and ensure I have good engagement b/c that is 1 thing you dont want to fail... well i figured out its a slip yolk and can only get about .5" more inches out of it...its gonna be close but i'll see what I can do...i've got a backup plan for a temporary "spacer"
  24. heh...this is not a fun job...you have to disconnect all of the harnesses and vaccum lines then there are nuts (that may only be for the lower intake) and hex head bolts holding the upper intake on remove those and then you should be able to get to all the phillips head screws which are a PITA to keep tight...next time i have it off i'm swapping them to bolts
