theres something about 'bolt on' and 'sas' in the same sentance - that just doesnt seem right to me........ thats my 5c
-
feel free to correct me if im wrong - i would like to know... my understanding is set a magnetic base dial gauge on a bench and secure it. set the tip of the gauge on one of the ring gear teeth. while supporting the pinion gear by holding the drive shaft flange, rotate the diff in both directions while observing the max variation in depth from the indicator - i.e. the highest value minus the lowest value. next rotate the diff centre 90 degrees and measure again for accuracy. check this figure with the service manual - i would put the figure in had a friend not borrowed my manual adjust as required in or out via the adjusters. once correct figure is attained tighen the bearing cap bolts to specified torque & wal-la.

Mike i taking a guess and thinking your pathy is lifted?? i think the problem is the angle the bj is on not the rubber, some aftermarket correction arms, although expensive, would do the trick. same principle as cv boots - when we lift our cars we put the cv joints on stupid angles and therefore greatly reduce the life of the boot

done that before..... more pics......

not meaning to argue but i can assure you my transaxle number is hg....... no worries

right, i will chime in now i pretty sure that pathys didnt come with ka24's but Z24's. my reasoning is Z24's are carby fed and ka's are fuel injected. i could be wrong about if they came with ka's but ive never heard of it. i have seen a pathy here locally were the motor had been butchered and a ka head had been slapped on, it wasnt pretty. my pathy started as a Z24 4 banger carby fed 5 speed. tbecktold is right on the money. ultra reliable but you will feel every little bit of wieght you put in it. he is also spot on about the diffs. c200 rear (dont need to worry about that tho, tough as nuts) and a r180 at the front - its smaller and weaker than the r200 front diff in the v6 pathys. all that being said i done a fair bit of wheeling now and i havent heard boo from my front diff or cv's. it is up to the task which ever way you look at it, as far as im concered anyway. before the engine swap i was running around on 31" mud tyres, 2.5" suspension & 2" bodylift and it was my daily driver. so its not as if the z24 wont pull you round, just if youve gotta over take some one make sure theres plenty of clear road ahead. theres a chance the diff ratio's may be 4.6 OR 4.8. i have 4.8. the way to tell is to look on the id plate at the trans axle number. the last four digits wil be hg46 or hg48. hg46 being 4.6 ratios and hg48 being 4.8 ratios. as for diff locks i have a nice little arb air locker in mine, so yes diff locks are available. hope this helps out.

stevey..... i rewired my head lights a little while back with all new good quality tinned flex cable and relays and it worked a treat. it went from stuffing up all the time to not having missed a beat since. they were also ALOT brighter due to there being 14.4 volts at where the globes plug in, instead of like 12 volts (with the alternator running obviously). you didnt see my pm.......

alright, alright..... i will try and find my photos again and re-host them so they can be viewed...... axle splines are the same.... otherwise they woundnt of fitted... the brakes will work with the stock MC however the bias is just different coming for someone who has been driving the car every day like this, its neither here nor there. car still pulls up good. that being said i am wanting to customise the MC to change the bias - i will when i got some cash to throw at it.

couple of pointers.... tansmission coolers WILL save you in the long run. there is absolutely no valid arguement to not put one in. my t700 was purpose rebuilt for the pathy before it went in and from day one its always been connected to a trans cooler. i found the cooler with the most btu cooling capacity i could posibly find and havent looked back for a second. not only that i put in a 2" gauge that tells me the auto trans fluid temperature, so i can aways kep an eye on whats happening. what do you wanna know about the torsion bars? obviously lifting the vehicle..... the calmini steering system is extremely good, as far as im concered, however you really only need it if you wanna put big tyres on your pathy. for argument sake - you dont need it, to do a suspension lift. but if you do a suspension lift and you will probably want to put big tyres on. the big tyres will wear out your stock steering and then you need to fix the steering. hope that makes sence.

i DID it a little while ago its not that hard to do. you will need to grab the complete axle shafts from a rear disc pathy. once youve got them just throw them in. make sure to replace the rear wheel bearings on the new axles. saves a lot of hassel. and gives piece of mind. well it did for me away. i put some info up on Aarons board if you can be othered looking
