1990 Terrano here in Australia, with 182000km on it, it does about 50/50 on off road mainly hi speed gravel off the road. And now really i havent any probs in 3 years ownership , except for the top cover o ring leak on the injection pump (diesel), which cost about 5 dollars for parts and replaced by myself ( these top cover orings leak on toyotas too so its not really a Nissan thing). I wouldn't call replacing the belts as a problem thats just general maintenance , oh yeah and have the famous noise in the left side of the dash. I have heard that these Terranos which where built for the home market (japan) where built to a higher standard than the export versions, don't know if that is true or not , but iam certainly getting a good run out of mine .

While on the topic of parhfinder/terrano, i think the deisel may have a different trans cooler in the radiator because i regually check the flow on mine when i change the oil (every 20000km) and theres certainly no sign of a flow problem.

MY 89er...

The lovely leak we all love so much

Rear hatch and window struts are slowly goin'

Brakes (have them just have to do them)

Small over hearing issue (It might just be the fan clutch Aaron I spun the fan WITH EASE)

When my stereo is pretty loud it turns off (????)

Dent in rear hatch from creek crossing on one of my first wheelin' trips

Dent on drivers side (was like that when I got it)

Pass. turn signal needs to be put back on

The storage bin thing on the pass. door was breaking and not allowing me to close the door so I ripped it off!

The small hole in my floor board from Sand Lake 04'

Driver side door kinda saggy so you have to REALLY slam it sometimes

Drivers seat ONE bolt not there anymore because I am so strong!!!

One of the black things on the front of the hood is gone/hood slightly dented (NOT my fault)

There are some other LITTLE things that are wrong and prolly some big things I dont even know about yet but thats all I can think of right now!

 HMM....let me see.... sssh well..my biggest problem at the moment is the broken manifold bolts and the rude noise it exudes, and the fact that my Thorley headers aren't shipping until JANUARY 21st! (and boo to Flowmaster for not making a cat back system for Pathys)..umm.. front washer motor shot and dead.... one (haha..passenger side) vent broke and deceased.....still works with gentle manuvering...umm... tailgate lift shock thingys (brain fart forgot word) are losing their strength and almost dead (nothing a good pair of vise grips can't handle)..... springs are due for changing (lift coming soon) and torsion bars need a boost..getting that "old lady boobs" sag up front now... pulls to the right..but the idler arm is bad, and once I crank up the torsion bars, an alignment will be eminent... clutch going out (got one in mind and almost ordered) soo..all in all..for a 92 Pathy that has previously been crashed up front (finding this out as I work on it) she's a good ol girl! I love my Pathy and can't wait to get the headers on! -bounce-

  • 4 weeks later...

I replaced the rear wiper motor with an eight dollar one from Wal-mart.

Exhaust manifold tick on start up.

Biggest problem now is high idle upon start up. Goes up to 2200 rpms and goes down very gradually. The idle screw is missing a spring or something.

Biggest problem I had was a hole or a crack developed in the front of the transmission near the bottom part of the engine. Had to take the whole thing off and get it welded back into shape.

With the exception of the idle upon start and transmission it is doing good for 230k miles.

i'll just go with yes...

hopefully it'll be finished up soon tho as of right now the only thing messed up is the front windshield the front bumper/mount and the starter...once i get the new used motor cranked up hopefully that'll be all

and ohh yea an exhaust leak and the iniside looks stripped right now between working on the igition and having the shift boot out and carpet all pulled up and radio/dash out cuze i tested a guy at works factory wiring in his HB to prove it was the crappy radio he bought and not his antena

poor poor truck but shes gonna get a bath and a wax job as soon as the projects completed then maybe a week later a minor run but nothing too serious for a while

87 SE 4x4 AT 3.0 -- 268,000 miles, Originial Engine/Tranny

Lets see here (this should be a LONG List)

Shocks are shot (might even be the OEM ones  )

Weather Stripping needs replaced all the way around. Truck doesn't seal worth crap.

Drivers door lock needs some TLC -- rough to open/doesn't always unlock other doors.

Drivers window needs TLC -- won't roll down (power windows)

Bumper/Grill guard sit crooked because the right bumper mount bolt broke.

Mainifold Tick

Exhaust Leak / Exhaust full of rust holes

02 sensor probably needs replaced

Some rust under the rear seats. God knows where else too ;)

HVAC Controls don't light up.

Center portion of the gauge cluster doesn't light up.

One KC light needs a new H3 bulb.

In dire need of a Tune Up/Tranny Flush/Coolant Flush

4x4 Icon doesn't light up when in 4wheel drive.

Steering wheel has finger grooves/insulation exposed from the PO's use.

Various broken plastic tabs

CB's fried -- going to replace with new one -- get a firestik too!

Both rear hatch & rear glass supports are FUBARed

Front end (BJ's, TRE's, CL, Idler arm etc) need looked at, probably replaced.

Blower motor vibrates uncontrollably on any setting above 3.

Amended as of late:

PS CV Axel needs replaced BAD -- DONE TODAY! WOOO! :takebow:

All in all its probably pretty standard stuff for a truck nearly 20 years old, and purchased for $450 ;)

And after reading through this thread, maybe we should organize a group buy on those hatch supports :D

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with mine! It gets me where I want to go every time...

But then, there are some things I'd like to do to improve the experience....

- Fix the exhaust leak

- Freshen up the front suspension and steering

- PM the timing belt, pulley, water pump

- Finish the electric fan install (thermostatic switch instead of manual)

- Probably a new clutch in the next year or two (210K on original!)

And then just do the things to make it even more fun!

- Install the Quest alternator gathering dust in the garage...

- A little lift (2" suspension, maybe 1 or 2" body)

- Get a little more power out of it (Thorleys, MSD6, porting, improve air intake)

- Add a CB

- Paint match the passenger door (probably never happen!)

- Paint the roof racks and basket

- Build custom bumpers

- Build sliders/rocker guards

- Add a winch

- More lights

- Roof top tent

hmmm... that's about it?

Mine's not doing too bad...

My passenger window rolls up real slow, verrrryyyy slow in the winter. i know there's a fix, just haven't had the time to try it.

On my passenger door, you have to pull the handle 3 times (weird) to open it from the inside. I think I stretched something trying to force it open when all my doors froze shut and trapped me inside one winter. I was dumb and went to a car wash when it was a bit too cold... heh heh -thnkboutit-

I think I have an exhaust leak at the y pipe on my pace setter headers, but it doesn't really bother me, you can't really hear it with the radio on.

I think that's it. All in all, pretty minor stuff. I only have 86,000 or so miles on my 95 so I should be doing ok for a while, engine-wise any way.

Okay: 1999.5 SE 4wd 5-Speed with 105k miles

Burns a quart of oil every tank!!! and now has a slight rod knock, just waiting for the engine to go anytime now.

Sagging rear springs (The previous owner had a horse trailer!!!) and bad shocks all around

Just replaced the belts, they now squeal on startup (just need to tighten)

Needs tires soon (plus a matching spare tire on the back)

Needs front skidplate or at least new splashguard

Bose headunit makes annoying clicking sound on scratched CDs

Fuel door bent

Wipers all around

Sunroof motor needs to be looked at

AC compressor makes noise and will fail soon

Need to find cabin air filter and change it

Need floormats (I don't have any)

Need new fog bulbs

Need new shift knob

When heat is on there is a clicking sound, don't know what it is

Seats are stained to hell and I am too lazy to Woolite them

Annoying rattling in the driver's rear door that I think is a latch that has come loose, similar to a problem QuismO posted

Various dings/scrapes/scuffs from being in college and parking in huge lots

Driver's seat makes a really annoying creaking sound when I shift my weight

Roof rack rattles (I want an 02 rack like DJ)

Brakes are shot front and rear

Windows go up and down glacially slow in the winter (I know the fix)

Seatbelts don't retract well if you don't feed them up

I'm sure there is more, but that's all I can think of

small manifold exhaust leak (header time!!!)

passenger side window rolls up slow

well, i figured it would be fun for everyone to share whats wrong/dosent work on their pathfinders just for fun..so here goes.

vac leak somewhere in engine, causing annoying whistle and high idle

of course, i am another victim of the exhaust manifold warpage

front windshield washer fluid motor went out, so im currently using the pump designed for the REAR nozzle to spray my windshield.

oil leak from head

engine is....getting up there in miles and noticible loss in compression

vents up near windshield are about to fly off im afraid

door must be unlocked from passenger side because cheap plastic connecting the tumbler to the rod that activates the door locks broke.

when i did have the ability to unlock from the drivers side, only the drivers and rear drivers doors would unlock...both pass sides wont.

when i lock the doors, all of them lock with the master except the rear passenger

drivers rear window no worky

vent surrounds in the center dash and passenger side have been ripped out by my brother.

ill fitting CD player sticks out of well about 1" or so. our radio pocket is SMALL!

gas gauge is weird. after i fill up, 20 miles down the road its at half lol. but i guess its better than none at all like it was when i got it. fixed that.

broken fan blade on blower motor or something. when i turn the air to "3" the entire dash shakes...its quite interesting.

i have a leak somewhere in the rear of the cargo area...causing water to come inside and soak my carpet on occasion.

dash is cracking

annoying creak when i turn hard over hills

pretty sure AC compressor is flipping me the bird

rear wiper/washer no longer works

open hatch button no longer works on dash

rear defroster...no work

cruise control...has trouble keeping proper speed

um, i think thats it for now. im sure that i am leaving some things out, but share what makes your pathy unique! lol

Hey bud I think i might know why basically your whole trunk is not working... found the problem myself not long ago. Underneath the carper of your front seat you have 2 metal plates and all wires running ontop.... What happened to me is the 2 plates moved/shifted a bit leaving a sharp edge which split 30 wires... when i fixed this all the wires where fixed and i got my locks working, back trunk unlock, winshield whipper...was dead so i replaced the motor myself for 90$ at a junkyard and I got my rear electric locks working..also the back defroster worked!!! ill take pics if ya want.

as for the cowgrills You can get em off ebay for 7$...the vents infron of winshield whipper. Also ill be taking apart a 92 pathy i just bought for parts so maybe i can send some your way. Your compressor for the AC...well im in refrigeration school so i can tell ya couple things...1 its lacking freon 2...a pipe is pinched.3 theres moisture in the systeme....So id suggest bringing it in.

Also for your engine...do like i did... change all the valve plates and gaskets... now my engined runs beautifully and it compresses like new!!! what happened is your gaskests probably dried up and cracked which now allows air into the engine and wont compress properly

Anyhow my 2 sense

Let me know

Jason

Paint chips EVERYWHERE

Driver side headlamp is cracked and keeps burning out bulbs

Blowing White smoke till the engine gets warm.. not sure why

PS Sun visor Wont stay up <- MOST ANNOYING THING EVER!

I think thats about it really... the LSD might be a bit worn out, but other than that , I guess she's in pretty good shape for its age.
