  1. Thanks for the info, when i crawled under to do the rear diff vent mod i was shocked to see no skids on the gas tank.... i mean shouldn't all 4wd trucks have skids wtf.... should be fairly cheap to find nismo skids somewhere maybe ebay. Heck even my ordered new from japan 02 wrx has a rear diff skidplate! From what i understand the fuel sender was done at a recall/tsb from the prior owner. Hopefully it doesn't go out again. My buddies 05 nismo went one under 50k miles and he has 186 on it now and on the same sender. I gotta say no question in my mind i'd rather have my 92 pathfinder on a trail over the frontier.... totally different feel. Scott
  2. About 2 weeks ago i spoke to greg and ordered his 1.5 rear block and bilstein 5125 rear shocks from him, camber bolts and new "top hats" for the bilstein 5100 i got from a clubfrontier member with only 10k miles on them along with xterra front springs. Im hoping to put together the 5100 set at the 2 inch lift with xterra springs and the new top hats and basically swapout my stock fronts for these. My only problem i forsee is getting camber bolts in, more then likely i'll have to get new lower control arms since the stock non adj bolts freeze up in there. maybe i should become a memeber of thenewx.com My best friend has been running a prg rear setup and stillen front spacers since 06 with no problems. I've heard nothing but great things about great at PRG. Any advice and i'm all ears... BTW more then likely i'll keep the 31's on the truck since they are new and upgrade to 32's or 33's down the road...
  3. i hope your right..... doubtful about that though.... headlight switch spazzed and dash lights and taillights stopped working, he saw the dash go out didn't realize the taillights at night didn't work either until the county cop gave him a 55 dollar ticket.... unreal..... Scott
  4. trucks gone... off to my brother in law..... headlight switch has gotten screwy again, im tired of taking it apart probably going to throw a used one in there..... frontier is in getting the timing chain guides done. Scott
  5. nice bug!, i get all my parts from california, orange county. IN NJ emissions and inspection don't exist for anything over 25yrs old if you get historic plates. I wish i had more time to work on my bug, they always need something. not even sure what i could get for the 79 epiogue, when the market was better im sure 15+k was realistic but now is even 10 something to aim for? Scott
  6. Yes my 92 pathfinder is a SE, the frontier is a LE. Funny you mention the seals i already changed the oem diff breather and ran a 5/16 fuel line up to the taillight ending in a fuel filter to keep the air clean and not pressurize the diff like stock frontiers sometimes do. The frontier has open diffs and firestone destination LE's and i can't belive how aweful the traction is compared to the pathfinder with factory LSD and grabber at2's. THe timing chain on the fronty alreay wore through the guides and will soon be getting changed something all the 4.0's have to deal with as mileage increases. Sounds supercharged right now. Lastly i have the new radiator and bypassed the factory cooler in the rad and only use the external factory cooler. I think i covered all their flaws hopefully things will be smooth. Just debating the PRG lift or bilstein 5100's for the front and probably prg blocks for the rear. Not sure what size tires the fronty is going to get maybe "33's" or "32's"..... 285 are the common upgrade on 2nd gen frontiers. So far still learning..... and learning not much aftermarket support.... try to find a front bumper lightbar other then the westin bullbar crap or a reg brushguard...sigh.. Scott
  7. actualy in my dads garage we have a black 79 epilogue special edition triple black 68k orig miles orig paint engine etc.... never gets used i was supposed to sell it the last few years never got around to it...
  8. day i picked it up... yes it needs a lift (PRG 2in, 1.5) lightbar with lights.... the vw before the suspension upgrade maybe 5yrs ago.. Scott
  9. the supra the vw.... 16 in porsche fuchs, 2007cc engine, narrowed beam 2in, ghia brakes, late model rear drums, redone from the ground up in 2000. built kcr trans, 67 vert decklid, list goes on and on...
  10. THe forum was a big help, got some parts, even a 95xe parts truck aong the way. Put the JGC coils in, cranked torsion bars, even trans issues i had from day 1, but replaced with the lower mileage 95 transmission. My problem is i have a car addiction, 6 cars between my wife and i since i got the frontier something has to go. Wrx is the daily driver since april 2001, mint mint 86 celicasupra, 67 vw i redid from the ground up, the pathfinder, the frontier and "the wifes suv". I opened last months motor trend and there was an article about pathfinders and a 87 red was in the article and picture, made me feel even worse to get rid of the pathy. I have a 9 month old son and know the frontier should be safer too with airbags, abs that works, and child seat anchors and no rust on the frame. I have tons of spare parts and still will be around, just with a different ride...
  11. This forum has been so helpful over the years (over 7yrs for me) and i can honestly say i find it hard to believe i'll ever own a vehicle as reliable as my 92 pathfinder SE but its time i have to move onto something newer. A neighbor (77yr old) was practically giving away his 2006 frontier LE crew cab 4x4 with 174k miles on it and had to jump on it. It had the dreaded trans/radiator contamination issue which i flushed and is fixed since i cought it early. he bought a 2012 frontier sv crew cab to replace this current one. My pathfinder seemed to only need tires, brakes, and oil changes since i owned it EXCEPT for frame rust which was welded up twice, the last time was 2yrs ago and reboxed and done right (athough visualy not beautiful welds) and has 238k miles on her. Doesn't leak or burn anything!!! I just hope this frontier will be close to as reliable. The pathfinder got me through the dreaded NJ Sandy Hurricane, bumper deep in water, surviving when half my neighbors lost their cars ( i live a mile and ahalf from the ocean) even made a rescue of a family. It kills me to part with it but we all have to part with them at some point. My brohter in law has a 93 which he might sell and buy my 92 since i have more mods and brand new tires etc etc so it will live on in the family. Thanks to all of you the last 7+yrs..... i'll probably have the truck the next month or two or until he sells his 93 SE pathfinder. Sad day indeed! I'll continue on clubfrontier.... Scott
  12. i feel your pain on the rust, just repaired mine, trust/rusty trucks they are. I debated totally cutting and putting new boxed frame in its place but cut and patches for now. Good luck with it. Just curious where did you get hose headlights they look great were they a good lighting upgrade? Sharp. Scott
  13. I have been planning to do this mod for years but finally did it since i was picking up 4 31in tires out of state and wasn't sure they were going to fit. Im sure we've all would have liked to be able to remove the back seat bottoms for an extra foot of room in the back when folding the seats down. Well i went to harbor freight and bought these quick release pins which couldn't have fit better and were about 2.50 a peice and i needed 4 of them. I used a grinder to get the orig hinge pins out and these fit right into place and removal takes seconds and replacment maybe a minute a piece since you have to line the hinges up. Well worth it for under 10 bucks. Here is a picture of the part and the installation on the seat bottom. Hopefully this will help someone out. YOu won't be able to use the black plastic hinge cover unless you mod them. Good luck, if questions let me know... ps for those curious just got new General Grabber AT2's reviews put them higher then BFG at's at a fraction of the price, even tirerack has them for 132 i think bfg at's are 35+ more a tire and i like this tread pattern more (and i was a hard core BFGat guy!) I love mud tires but with gas prices i'd rather have the 2+mpg more with at's.
  14. THe vw, the karmann badge were on them until "1980" or officially 79 models. Those wheels aren't orig, maybe JC whitney???APpears to have rubber caps on the bumper so that'd make it 74-79 vert. I'm gonna go on a limb say the rest looks something like this one.... btw nice work on the pathfinder! Scott
  15. seems this with the economy everyone is looking for more economical answers with tires. I'm still amazed how many people rave about the falken wild peaks, and they look like street tires. What ever happened to the days of guys running super swampers or ground hawgs. Duratracs weigh in what most all terrains or even street tires weigh and they're pretty aggressive compared to an AT. I'm still skeptical on wild peaks but they're cheap esp on vulcantire.com ROughly 30 bucks less a tire less then the duratracs though. Scott
  16. love the duratracs, and they're pretty light compared to many tires and fairly reasonable about the price of BFG at's. I think im passing on the supercharged xterra wheels i looked at 400bucks for 4 with almost new long trails but they're 245/65/17 which are 30in tall not 31 like the 265/65/17. keep the pics coming look great. Scott
  17. any more info on themattman truck very sharp setup, different look! Scott
  18. very interesting info, thanks for contributing hopefully others find it as helpful. @nunya those example pics are great! I found a great deal for 4 17in SC xterra wheels for 400 with tires with 13k miles on them. Only problem is the tires evidently are 245's not 265's. 245's are 30in tires not 31 like the 265's. My 31's are dryrotting and i should replace them even though the treat is great. I figure 4 at tires mounted and balanced plus disposal runs about 600 maybe slightly less so 400 was a deal plus a new look. I forgot all about the rodeo wheels i remember them now. I'm a fan of the 97 hardbody wheels too just rarely see them. I don't wheel like i used to but thats not to say the path doesn't get worked hard doing housechores to depot, lowes, landscaping etc etc. NJ isn't exactly an easy place to find a trail...
  19. I did a search for guys running other OEM wheels whether other nissan(frontier xterra, 720series etc), chevy, toyota, and how they fit and if you had to change lugnuts or use oem pathfinder ones. IF your running other then "lego's" or chrome XE wheels post up your pics. Personally i feel oem wheels quality is high and generally used prices are low. I recently saw a hardbody 2wd running late 90's tahoe/suburban/yukon silver twist wheels and im thinking of putting SC nissan frontier/xterra's on my 92 pathfinder. I can use those daily and for true offroading can always swap on stockers or just leave them as prices are reasonable. I know the early 2000's late 90's tacoma/4runner wheels don't fit well on our trucks what else does or doesn't..... Scott IF you have pics post em up!
  20. im at the jersey shore, i used to wheel paragon in hazelton PA great place until it got shut down a few years back. You can drive on the beach on the jersey shore if you get a beach buggy pass which is only 10 bucks at dover aka toms river pd station. I had one couple years back and can go on the beach from september until may. Scott
  21. on my 92 auto from salt ridden winter NJ removing the trans was aweful...esp without a life wound up bringing it to my mechanic. I am very familar around a car and thing pathfinders are worse then the average on removing the trans, at least the automatics are. Rust was def a major issue for me. I'd rather work more overtime at work and pay my honest mechanic then fight with that thing again! Scott
  22. i feel your pain.... i'm in NJ to have/had frame rust on my path... try welding it up, i did phase one above the tires section and this summer plan on welding/bracing area behind axle section. No pro my buddy bought one and we just tried it out. Just figured we'd give it a shot. I read about some of the toyota guys boxing the frames up might not be bad for us nissan guys either...
  23. Thanks for the help, I sent a nissan buddy over and i was correct by saying the gear change was the part that puzzled the mechanic. After explaining about different tire size he and my nissan buddy put it right in no problem. Hopefully soon the path will be resurrected... new trans,tq converter, new master cyl/booster... soon to be more frame rust repair. Scott
  24. Thanks for the update. I'm 1000k miles away from home when i got the call, trying to do my homework so the truck will be done when i return. My close friend is a nissan guy and he's going over today. I know he's swapped the gears on his 97 hardbody so he's familar with that plug. The only thing i can think of is that he is looking at the different colored gears(for tire size) and thinks it won't mesh.... Thanks so much for the reply...if anyone else has anything to add please do... Scott
  25. i want to add too that im on vacation for a week and can't look a the speedo hookup myself....
