Need Input; 1989 Nissan PU randomly cutting out
Precise1 replied to 78sharpshooter's topic in General Forums
More like jiggle the key up and down, back and forth and then add a slight rotation to the mix. That should tell you if it is the ignition switch/contacts. Do you have a heavy key chain? Someone else had this type of ignition issue recently, let me find it. B Here it is, perhaps it helps? A place to start, anyway, you have done most of the obvious replacements... http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showto...mp;#entry343666 -
What's 1" between friends?? B
-
I agree, just replacing things is a stupid and wasteful way to 'fix' it. It doesn't sound like he knows Nissans or electronics very well. B
-
Ahh, good, thats definitely the one I go for. Without rust or major problems, any WD21 with under 100k miles on it should be grabbed up immediately!! If I had the means, I have a warehouse of them... Err, my advice is to do one truck at a time, otherwise you wind up with a garage that looks like mine. (nothing finshed) Luck. B

These should help some... http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19755 http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=7703 B

Just a guess. Fuel pressure regulator? That would explain the fuel leak down after it has been sitting... B I forgot this was TBI land and figured all 6 injectors couldn't be failing... With 2 injectors, perhaps one is failing? Run the ECU codes to see if any codes are stored. Try some injector cleaner for good luck? B

Little Red, 2 weeks ago that is what I advised you do and Simon was more specific on which sensor. Today you are suprised to learn it was sensor wiring? Fix/solder the wire, check all connections and add some dielectric grease for good luck... Why buy another one that may have it's own problems. The CEL is there for convenience (ie idiot light). NEVER count on it, if/by the time it lights you usually have major issues... B

LOL @ both ^!! The proper response it to reply with the location when you found it so the next person who searches for the information, finds it... B
-
^ Absolutely and with out a doubt!! If you don't block it up, don't even go there... B
-
Hey, good idea!! I'll look for some posts to move... B
-
Have you replaced the dizzy cap? B
-
A mirror on a stick is really handy to view what you are dealing with... B
-
The wire?? Does it just unclip at the sensor? B
-
Thank you for the confirmation, the FSM was not clear on it. Or at least not where I looked... I may go with your calibration method for the temperature gauge though, I have to figure out how best to use the little room there is. B
-
Yep, my buddy just had his cat stolen. Apparently Toyota trucks are the most popular to steal from; very easy to get out... B

Well, the PO installed the stereo where you have the yellow arrow pointed. Below it I have a bare strip about 1.7" tall and 7+ inches wide. Three 1" gauges would fit well with room for a few switches. That seems like a good place for the CB and perhaps I can put the power inverter on the other side to balance things out... B
-
I'm trying to tell you, but if you don't listen... Buy a crow foot wrench set (or just the one you need) and it will save you the $ for the mechanic and you will have the tools for later... B
-
BASTARD!!! Lucky Bastard, that is... NICE!! I can get a set with sensors for <$50 though so I don't know if it is worth the trouble. Still, I may go to the local U-Pull-It next weekend and just be a scrounge rat... If nothing else, I can get enough bolts to pay for the entry fee. Good point... There seems to be a bit of room though and I can always make an angled/offset unit. I'll definitely ask about the length now!! I took a hard look today, and I don't have much good room to put them it, so I may just go with separate 1" gauges and mount them below the radio. Only 1.7"- real estate there... Well, where to put the CB, I don't thing that was going to fit regardless. B
-
Thanks for the heads up GG. I guess my choice is between the Kumho and BFG and... I seem to have lost my post-it note!! I'll pay more for something I can count on...

A few questions, idling and timing chain..
Precise1 replied to bosse's topic in Z24 Engine Discussion
GREAT!!! I'm glad it was so easy of a fix!! For the gearbox, GL4 75W90. Use only GL-4, NOT GL-5! Perhaps the sound you hear is just from some sort of vibration caused only by running in that range? Regardless, there have been people who developed tranny whine which didn't get any worse after they filled the tranny with the 'extra' gear oil as per the thread you read. Tune ups, well, when I first buy a truck, I change everything. Brake fluid, power steering, transfer case, tranny and differentials just so I know when it was done and know there is good lubrication. Spark plugs generally last a while as do the wires and I usually change them before and emmisions test is due, so perhaps every 4 years for me (30,000 miles). A basic tune up may be dizzy cap, rotor, oil and air filter and chassis lube. Not to be a mart ass, but where to find the zerk fittings for the chassis lube? Look... Drive shafts, front end, U joints... B -
Agreed, that's exactly what I plan to do... I think I answered my own question though. There are 2 sensors at the base of the upper radiator hose!! I'm thinking that one is for the ECU and the other for the dash gauge; a quick look in my FSM when I get back from the store should tell me. I wonder if I can T that as well to keep both gauges and 'calibrate' the one in the dash... B
-
Crazy, I have a question for you... Did your Sentra's ECU hook up to the temp sender unit? I'm sure the pathys do? What is the work around for this? Thanks. B
-
I have no idea. Can you call a dealership and see if the part # is the same for both years? B
-
Yep, they just opened a store here and I have heard that add on the radio. Thanks though!! B
