  1. Hey there!! I have little info, but I'll share. My 2nd pathfinder that I have been driving for 2 months has an auto tranny that was rebuilt by the PO. He said he had installed a shift kit, and he had no reason to lie about it. The tranny has run for aproximately 12,000 miles (700 miles for me) and shows no signs of trouble. The shift from 1st to 2nd is very hard, verging on a lurch. 2nd to 3rd is firm but negligible unless you have your foot in it and 3rd to 4th is seamless and is not felt unless you have your foot in it. Using the power mode feels too extreme to use without reason. I have never driven an automatic WD21 before this so I don't have a good comparison, but merely described what it feels like. I don't know how much the shift kits are but I have not heard of complaints about them. They may help stave off the dreaded soft shift of some older/used trannys. I don't know why you wouldn't want the kit installed (unless it is a grocery getter) but I am at the end of my expertise. B
  2. Hell yeah, all you need is an ice saw, an extension cord, and some water!! B
  3. Dear Gods Man, MOVE!!! Sorry, I had to. I have never heard of this problem and have no valid information. I'm sure there will upcomming input. B
  4. That's what you get for living in the arctic circle... B
  5. It can't hurt to check the wiring/connections before you spend the $. Should just take a few minutes. Also, there has been a rash of ignition switch problems as of late. While you probably still need to check/replace the other items, it would be a good idea to check the ignition switch/connections also. B
  6. L&P doesn't exist any more, so forget that. there is a 'Hoohaa' CL that is highly recommended. That along with an idler arm brace and a pitman arm brase sets up the front end so that the tie rod ends are the weakest point. You can find info on the CL in the general section, pinned at the top under 'Pathy parts list' or something like that. It's on the last page, grassroots4x4.com or something... B
  7. LMAO!! No way I could take offense for something that is undeniably true... B
  8. And here folks, are the deciding factors. It's all good, everyone sets up their truck the way they want. Great, another tire to consider!! I'm fairly certain I'll go with BFG AT or MT in 31" or 33" (x10.5). Just haven't decided on being practical or not. Regardless, I drive the truck maybe 7,000 miles a year so whatever I get, I'll have them for a long time. B
  9. Were there more than one gear ratio available? The issues with including diesels is that I was really trying to find some correlation with the VG drive train, not to mention I didn't have enough answer slots available to even include all the LEs, much less a different motor. By your logic, should the Z24i be included? DON'T ANSWER THAT!!! Well, it looks like we are getting somewhere (sort of). Isn't 32 data points the magic statistical number? Interesting that 1/3 are SE-Auto-LSD-4.6!! Ok members (all 5000+) lets have a few more votes than 23!! B
  10. Huh, I never knew that!! Thats a pretty simple feature to wait until 94 to install!! Meh, you learn something every day. B
  11. Ok, does that mean I could steal Pezzy's drive train and mount it in my truck? Different mounting points? Innards only being the same? Never heard of anyone using a caR50 tranny in a WD21... If it is that close, other than a direct swap, doing a caR50 poll makes sense also. B
  12. So the caR50s have the same gearing options in the rear end? Different tranny and differential though, right? B
  13. Check rummitracing.com. I saw a dynomat universal high flow cat for $50. Google will be your friend. I found all sorts very easy (flanged, slip fit, welded, etc), I just can't remember the site names now. B
  14. LOL, I think so... It's all good. Thanks for all the input guys. I'd like to see more votes before I look for trends, but if this small sample is any indication, there is no rhyme or reason to the drive train set ups. I know this is the case with trim level/options, but I was curious if things were more consistant with the drive trains. I'm guess that more LSD equipped vehicles are sold in snow country (both mine were), but even that may be a reach. Maybe if you weren't always Post Whoring, you'd have the time... B
  15. Guess #1. Most people don't complain about them until they fall off... Apparently it's hard to fell just by poking and looking. You have said that the rest of the front end is good. Recheck the wheel bearings, it only takes 5 minutes. B
  16. Yes, that is probably it. Regardless, one of the door sensors is probably stuck/broken. Does your dash indicate door ajar? On second thought, isn't the switch 3 position? Always off, on when a door opens and lastly always on? Are you sure you and not just manually setting to always on? Personally, I leave mine off. I can turn them on if I want them... B
  17. Pretty straight forward... The following picture shows the information plate on the inside passenger fender. The bottom right will have either "HG43" or "HG46" (circled in red). Please pick the correct category for your truck and vote. When in doubt, choose what was the stock equipment. Any bets on what the trend will be? Thanks. B Sorry, I ran out of choice options when I got to the LE's. If you have something other than the 5 choices available, please just post the information. Thanks.
  18. That was kind of my thought. 31x10.5's seem perfect for stock pathys but I do hear what he is saying about wanting the extra width... Perhaps he has the 4.3 gearing. I have the 4.6 gears with 235/65/15 tires and don't like it, it revs too high. I don't know these tires. Have you looked in the tire thread under product review on the main page? B
  19. This might help you either fix the problem or allow you to bypass the system... http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19755 B
  20. Sounds like a rip off to me. I would have just laughed at them and walked out. Sounds like their labor rate is 'low' considering. I had a dealership here diagnose an issue on my GF's Toyota Matrix. 1 hour minimum, $120. I told them that they were insane!! Thankfully the pre-certified warranty covered the cost... B
  21. Sorry Red, I misunderstood... Yes, that would be a valid solution. Of course, like you said, having the UCA made correctly in the first place is the way to go. I won't even touch the SAS idea as I'm still irritated that I can't justify it for my old Pathy. B
  22. I'm glad I hear that from another machinist. It's not what you can fix, or even how. It's more like what first and when... Those wedges look very nice, the milled OD profile looks great! What angle are they? The trick here is to 'dimple' the top of the holes with say a 3/8" ball mill for a 1/4" bolt. Then make washers with a 3/8 radius on one side |) and the bolt will always find center and sit flat, holding even torque. Bad idea. When you torque the bolt, the shim will try to spin... Any error can leave you with a loose bolt when you least expect it. B
  23. Absolutely!! Not saying that IS the problem you have but it is quite possible and is a simple problem quite often overlooked. When you say that your battery is dead, are you just saying that it won't turn over the motor or you have had it load tested? If your ground strap/connection is not good enough, the battery is unable to complete the circuit well enough to deliver the amps required to crank the starter motor. When you have the battery/truck jumped from another vehicle, you are now using that ground circuit. Get it? For a quick test, take your jumper cables, attach one side to the ground post of the battery and attach the other a body screw, exhaust manifold stud, etc (something solidly grounded and without paint on it) and try to start it... Another thing to try is to drive home and immediately disconnect the battery. Re-attach when you go to leave in the morning, the battery could not have drained disconnected, so if it starts immediately, you know you have a draw somewhere. Also, what kind of battery did you get? Does it have the maintenance caps on top? Check the fluid and refill if necessary with distilled water only. The last course would be to have the battery load tested. While it is rare, sometimes even 'new' batteries fail; it only takes 1 bad cell as they are in series. That should be enough for now. Please keep us informed. B
  24. I do not have any headers yet, hence my planning it. I intend to put Thorleys on it and as for the body lift question, I'm not sure what your question is or what the issue would be. B
  25. Isn't it fun setting up your truck the way you want it? B
