Crap!! For a '93, the timing belt is supposed to be changed every 60k miles (96k KM) so you are 2.5 times overdue, assuming that your mother bought it new. Christ, does no one do maintenance any more? Not crapping on you or your mom, Bud, just lamenting how unnecessary this kind of damage is. Ok, that said, do you know someone who can rebuild the top end of the motor with/for you? The mechanic (5523Pathfinder) knows exactly what he is talking about... B

Slick has has 1 (some?) made. Perhaps it is too late, but you could ask her for what she did. I suggest you set up a poll to see how many people will buy one (there will be more in the future). Make sure you include a pict of the 'final' lay out. Oh, check your PMs B

Holy crap!! That's insane!! Why are they marked up so much? What did you pay for yours? I hear you on the retreads and how much you plan to drive the truck. Just watch out for prolonged highway driving, thats what can make retreads fail. A second set of tires/rims 235/75/15 for asphalt driving would be a good idea... B
-
Look around. Ebay, Craigslist, etc. You'd be suprised what comes up sometimes, especially when you have a set of rims to sell to defray the cost. Remember, the 5.5"x6 bolt pattern we use is the same as a lot of Chevys so that opens up some options. While some people here have used wheel spacers, it is usually to get a little bit of clearance that is needed, not just for looks. I don't recommend them for the first reason and would not even consider them for the second reason. B

Advice for oil pressure gauge install
Precise1 replied to icemonkey's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Northern California. Probably too far for a motor sale... B -
There are several full write ups on changing the timing belt, some pinned in the garage section I believe, under "How To". Search or hunt directly and you shall find. B

Coil, dizzy, cap, rotor, timing, plug wires, spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, battery, ground, etc. A lot of little things can do that but most are easy to check. When was the last tune up? B
-
Nothing wrong with Brembo at all, especially if you find another deal... B
-
Clogged fuel filter? Had that happen twice in my life. Drove me nutz the first time, second time I knew what it was. It happens... B

What size are the bolts and do you have a hand drill? B

so i want a roof rack, what you got?
Precise1 replied to Channel595's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
The basket actually helps stiffen the rack when it is properly clamped. The real issue is the rack pay load, factory says something like 80lbs. It's just sheet metal after all. You installed the rack. How, what fasteners? Jack nuts? Please elaborate, that's what helps other people out... B -
LMAO!! Ya think?? Still, good of you to offer. B

I fill up at 1/4 tank. You never know when that 1/4 tank may be important... B
-
Exactly!! Start simple, this you can do yourself. Make sure everything is plugged in, both at the computer and the connections at the tranny. Don't just look, seperate the connections and examine them. Any loose wires, pins or corrosion? Thin coatings of dielectric can't hurt (that I know of). Trace the wiring as much as you can to look for shorts/disconnection. Next step would probably be to try another tranny brain. It's a long shot, but worth trying. Check the classifieds for parted out trucks, or simply ask nicely and loudly if anyone has a spare that they would ship you just so you could test. You get it... It could be that the tranny is fried, but that's not the normal symptoms I'm used to hearing, it sounds more like a tranny control issue. Try to contact lgranch, if he is willing. He is a tranny expert... Most importantly, wouldn't drive it at all, or as little as possible for the time being. That's where I would start. B

Advice for oil pressure gauge install
Precise1 replied to icemonkey's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Can you elaborate? Flushing the dirty engine like how? What kind of havoc can it wreak? Seriously... B -
You are welcome. Just the fact that you say that means you are... Play with the search function a bit (it's kinda finicky) but once you get the hang of it, it's your friend. The management here an NPORA fully supports use of the search function... Of course, if you can't find 'it' then just ask... Thank you Sir! I just put in 5 quarts and a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer (used castrol not redline MT) and called it good. I figured overfilling the overfill is fine, not to mention Lucas O/S is good sheit... B
-
No, yes, yes and no. Overfill it (as per the TSB, can't remember if it is 5.1L) with Redline and it should extend the life considerably. That is what I would do. mws has a pathy with a whining bearing that he has been driving for years and has said since he overfilled the tranny with the right lubricant, it has not gotten any worse. B

I CAD'd up a version, but I can't see how I could make one for much less... You either have the skills or need to pay. B

Advice for oil pressure gauge install
Precise1 replied to icemonkey's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Damn, that sounds nasty!! Rather than run endless oil through it, run an engine cleaner like Seafoam a time or two, flush with the cheapest oil you can find with a cheap filter, and if it flushed clear, then put in the oil/filter you wish to run. Why, yes, actually I do. A VG30e out of a 95 with 130K on it and it runs flawlessly. Timing belt has been replaced. Where are you, what do you want on the motor and what is it worth to you? B -
Pathy dying, Radiator hot, but not the engine?
Precise1 replied to zeppelindrummer's topic in The Garage
Any good 'How To' write up is appreciated here. Someone will have need of it! It is more about if you are willing to take the time... B -
Yep, check for spark. Then check for fuel pressure. Like Red said, how many miles on the Pathy? B
-
17mpg is not bad for these gas pigs, unfortunately... There are some exceptions depending on year, condition, driving, but as an average, that's about what to expect. LOL about the LSD. In my manual, I had to be careful in the rain, turning in 1-2 gear, lest I just pivot. With my new automagic it doesn't seem to be as touchy, but winter has just started so I'll have a better understanding in a few months. My guess is that the auto tranny drive train has more lag/less snap to it. At least, that's how it feels... A new caliper for $40?? That seems remarkably cheap. Where did you get it? I'm glad you got the trouble sorted out easily and cheaply. B
-
You are welcome, of course. Thank you for adding the pictures. If only everyone would take the time... B
-
LMAO Cheap ass Canadian... B
-
I'm glad you find an improvement!! Figured you would and that your tranny will still last for a while, but it's good to hear. Yeah, Redline MT90 seems to be the stuff people recommend. Unfortunately, I don't have a (installed) manual tranny... B
