  1. No, you misunderstand Bud. We believe you. Both my trucks have it. Initially you said 2 cats not precat and cat, that's what confused me. It's undeniable that they exist (I even sold one) and we know why they are there, we just don't understand the rhyme or reason behind who has them and who doesnt... B
  2. You are welcome. I recommend something other than hair spray though, you don't want all your flex lines to be stiff, do you?? (a little should be ok though if you have nothing else) B
  3. Agreed, anything less than 14-15 mpg or roughly 5-6km/liter normal (highway+city) driving and there is something that needs attention. I have gotten 8-9km/liter on trips in my first Pathy. B
  4. I will have to have it smogged in another month or two, so yes, I will definitely share the grief results... B
  5. There is a recent thread about this in the R50 section. I can't remember the year cut off, but at some point you need the diff input shaft spinning for lubrication or something. Take a look and let me know if you can't find it... B
  6. Try the diagnostic proceedure to see if it says anything helpful. http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=21 And look at the pinned topic in the garage to download a Factory Service Manual, it may contain some trouble shooting proceedures. To search for vacuum leaks, let the motor idle and spray a flammable aerosol (wd-40, carb cleaner, etc) briefly and carefully at suspected lines and such. If the rpm increases briefly, there is a leak. B
  7. Ok, my mistake. Calm down!! I did not investigate the procedure, just went by what I have done with previous vehicles, which was correct for them. Hey, it's the same adjustment nut and slotted thread. B
  8. I hear you. I had a hydraulic tranny jack and I still needed a buddies help to get the final positioning. We struggled for about 15 minutes and suddenly *thunk* and "Holy Crap, is that it?? Yep it's lined up... Damn, quick, get some bolts started!!" B
  9. Well, I'm 6'1" and 200lbs so not too far off. RJS said it well. No, you don't have a perfectly clear view of that place but you don't really need it. I find I just tilt my head slightly and I can see it well enough and it is not as if you are watching it like your speedo, it's more like how often you look at your engine coolant temp. The plus is that it is a really clean install and if you get the black bezel and white needle, it matches the other 1995 gauges so it looks stock other than saying 'Autometer'... Ahh, ok, you found the other thread. Yeah, he did a great job, didn't he!! There some pretty talented people who come through here. B
  10. LOL I have 2.5 solutions... B
  11. I find most brake jobs to be fairly simple and predictable (no rust state) including wheel bearings and whatnot but I rarely push someone to do them especially if they don't feel comfortable/capable or don't have supervision. Brake jobs usually dont cost too much at a shop and it's something you want done right the first time... B
  12. Here is a thread for that... http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=24503 It is the same radiator for the manual and AT trannys. If you have an MT, you just ignore or plug the two bottom fittings. Sorry, no dice. B
  13. Yeah, the old one is obviously sloppy... B
  14. Down load the free Factory Service Manual anyway, it will come in handy in the future... B
  15. Be careful when you do. 1/8 turns at a time max (probably clockwise), it's easy to crush the worm gear and that won't help... B
  16. Good point and fair enough, but you have seen much worse repaired?? Really?? If it was much worse, the two ends of the truck wouldn't be connected. I've been shocked before, I thought GG's frame was bad and was impressed by how he handled it. This one is much worse... B
  17. I've replaced the entire steering system with exception of the ball joints and the steering box. I still have play and I'm certain it is in the steering box. That will be dealt with but after larger priorities... B
  18. I thought you were going to post pictures of your rig, not the Titanic... Yeah, I would not drive it like that except into the garage where the repair is going to be done. B
  19. Yeah Dowser, the rod is supposed to ride on the bushings so the hole is oversized. I can't give you a value other than saying my undamaged ones were considerably larger than the rod, by 1/2 again perhaps?? B
  20. Ok, I'm tempted. Let me sleep on it... B
  21. Then the cooler should be the priority, not the filter or temp gauge. Seriously, go to the junkyard tomorrow (Ford Explorers have good units apparently) or go to Summit Racing (.com) and order what you need. Don't put it off, I have seen a few people regret it... B
  22. Then where do I put the dip stick?? Seriously though, that's a long way down there so how do you know if the sensor is in the fluid? What is moving down there that it could interfere with? Will it fit at all in the first place? The T was no issue as I simply attached it to the inline filter unit I have installed. Besides, you have lines running to the cooler, so why not a T?? As for paranoid, please read the first sentence... http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=24503&view=findpost&p=447214 What's wrong with paranoia?? It's served me well for many years... B
  23. Nothing other than there is no redundant system. I do a lot of metrology and a key concept is to have 2 different systems give you the same data, then you can consider it validated. I didn't say it won't work, just that it is not how I wished to do it... B
  24. Yes, definitely harder on the already taxed components. You shouldn't have too much issue running 31" tires, but you are putting 10.5" tires on 10" rims?? I'm not a tire guy, but that seems a bit large... B
  25. Ok, step one, please do not respond to me without pants on. That's just a little weird... Ok, I understand the precat/cat thing. Both of my trucks have it. Here is the key though, neither of my trucks are Cali models. The first one was from Rustchester, NY and the latest was from Pencilneckylvania. The whole point to the precat is that it heats up to operating temperature much faster than the main cat so it reduces emissions much quicker. My theory is that this is specifically a cold weather application, hence why Adam has them on all his fleet since he lives up on the frozen tundra. Cali doesn't really need them because 1/2 the time my cat is damn near at operating temperature when it is parked and motor cold... B
