  1. fuses generally blow because: 1) bad ground/short 2) positive/negative criss-crossed 3) too much power going through them
  2. My truck hates 87 and lets me know it when I put it in. I ususaly put 89 in it..... and now she has gotten spoiled.

  5. This can also be an error code. This is covered in the owners manual if you still have it.

  9. Yep, thats was what I was saying, after the ECU goes into closed loop it starts reading the O2 sensor input and if the sensor is bad or the wiring it messed up the vehicle will start to run very rough.
  10. MAF connector tends to go away when the vehicle is reved up and it stumbled and dies at idle, but it could still be that or the MAF itself. I find that you say it starts real bad a few minutes after starting very interesting. Makes it sound like something that happens when the vehicle reaches operating temperature and the ECU goes into closed loop which is usually about 3-5 minutes after the vehicle is started cold. Once it is warmed up and driven around, turned off and restarted, it will go into closed loop sooner. This makes me think it is some sensor, harness or input to the ECU that is not reading properly, or the ECU itself has failed which I think is less likely. Is there any error codes stored in the ECU? If the timing had jumped, it would be coughing , hard to start and runing rough/misfiring all the time, not just a few minutes after start up. Same with the position sensor in the distributor, it would be bad at start up, not after a few minutes. The battery thing doesnt seem to add up though, I think it is a seperate issue or you were just reading alternator output os something at 1.9 volts.

  13. Unplug the speakers on the doors, etc Grab the plugs, and look at the color codes on each wire. They trace back to the radio.
  14. Yes, there is a light top center of the dash that should come on when the cruise is engaged that says 'Cruise' in green. It flashed rapidly if there is an error setting the cruise.
  15. I dont think thats true. All of the Pathfinders and most Hardbody trucks came out of one factory in Kyushyu, Japan and then were shipped over here. Any Nissan vehicle with a VIN starting with J was made in Japan. (1 = made in the USA). The VG30I and VG30E crankshafts are the exact same part on any VG30i or VG30e engine, regardless of year model. This engine was used in the Pathfinder, Hardbody Pickup and Quest van and others. I hate this term JDM, it has been so abused post The Fast And Furious movie to either make something sound more cool than it is or to charge more for the exact same thing.
  16. Nissan Motorsport provided a carb dor the VG30 a long time ago when they were racing that engine. It required a new intake manifold as well but they are no longer available.
  17. Aluminum corrodes but it does not rust. Rust refers only to iron and steel corrosion. Aluminum is actually very prone to corrosion. However, aluminum corrosion is aluminum oxide, a very hard material that actually protects the aluminum from further corrosion. Aluminum oxide corrosion also looks a lot more like aluminum, so it isn't as easy to notice as rusted iron. When iron corrodes the color changes and it actually expands. This expanding and color change can produce large red flakes that we all know as rust. Unlike aluminum oxide, the expanding and flaking off of rust exposes new metal to further rusting.
