The bulb on the back of the cluster might just be loose. They twist in 90 degrees and lock into the circuit board. Not a difficult job, IIRC on the R50 you just need a phillips screw driver. As to the dome light, if you are sure the bulb and fuse are good, that leaves the switch to turn it on and off/assembly is bad/the connectors where the bulb plug in are corroded, or it is disconnected. Cant think of anything else it could be.... The harness connects to the done light and runs down to the right hand a pillar to the kick panel.

I guess they were messing with the shift lock? That cable goes from the left hand side of the base of the Trans shift control to the range selector. On this end it is held on by a bracket that is part of the cable. There is a metal clamp under the center console half way along the cable, sort of looks like a hairpin, it has a screw that holds the cable to the floor and in place. There is also an E clip holding the cable in place on the base of shift control Perhaps one or more of these got ripped out so the cable moves around now. I can send you the diagrams if you want.

That can only be gotten from an internal dealer terminal. It may also be written in the owners manual, there may also be a decal in the glove box with the key code.

That doesnt look like any OEM Nissan switch I have ever seen. But a switch is a switch! (providing it can handle the power flow or course)

The Nissan roof rack accessory kit (999R1-WE000) was the same from MY 86-95 for all WD21. So yes it should work.

Cross bars were not on all vehicles. It is not cheap to add them on. Some dealers remove the tow hooks. The Pathy, Frontier and Xterra share many common parts. If you shoot me your VIN I can let you know if it has LSD, or anything else you want to know as far as what it is equpt with, what options are available, etc

Roof rack installation will require pilot holes to be drilled into the roof. Make sure to line up both your channels first and tape them down to the roof so they will not move, then mark the holes with a marker. Never added a tire carrier, I do know all taht is required, but I can say there are supports inside the rear quarter panel for the tire carrier that are not apparent. Also, vehicles with the carrier had different quarter panels than those without, they had the holes for the carrier in them already. You will have to drill to mount it for sure. There is a green light that looks like an H that will ight up when 4wd is engaged.

The bushings are different. -
Sounds like one of the gaskets to me, probably the one right after the Y pipe. and I agree, sounds like a good find.

Looks and sounds like an excellent purchase!!!

Was this happening after the vehicel was warmed up or soon after you started it? I see you are in Michigan and it is winter time.... if it has been real cold there, especially over night when it has been sitting, then it takes the fluid a while to warm up, it will not like or want to go or stay in overdrive. Just a thought.

Not a pleasant BBQ smell I am sure!

Headlights BOTH randomly go off, and turn back on?

Many people have had success from cleaning the contacts as pointed out. The intermittant contacts seem to me to point to it. -
Drain and refill the fluid when you can. Also make sure to consult: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2621 Throwout bearing should not effect it changing gears in the manner you are describing. But it is an inexpensive part and a good idea to replace whenever you do a clutch job or have the trans off.

NOTHING smells better than pieces of Boa Constrictor or kitty cat cooking away on the exhaust......

Matic-J was replaced by Matic-S back in October(ish) 2009. That may have been what you were thinking of. Matic-D is still available.

Was this done at Peltier in Tyler? It makes no difference if it is 2wd or 4wd. The part is the same. Next time, ask me I can let you know these things.

Air pockets can build up in the heater core and heater lines or you were low on coolant anbd broughtit back up to the correct level. Either way you probably got rid of either when you refilled it.

Given the low engine speed mentioned, You should replace your vacuum check valve. I strongly believe everyone should do this at 100K. It is not an expensive part adn often overlooked. (I replaced mine back in May last year because we had a non-returnable one here, and noticed a much more responsive brake pedal and some 10-20% more braking power, esp at under 30mph speeds) You should also have the brake fluid drained and refilled. This would include bleeding the brakes. Brake fluid absorbs water molecules from the air, lowering your braking power raising the boiling boint. The chemistry/math is something like a 5% H20 containation raised the bioling point of brake fuild 130 degrees. Everytime you open your brake resevoiur it exposes the brake fluid to the air, that is why a tight fitting cap is so important. It also absorbs and retains dirt and dust. Most manufactures recommend every 100K, but it varies by opinion as to when it should be done. Vaccuum brake boosters dont really go out much. Master brake cylinders do but this doenst sound like a master cylinder problem at all, if it was the symptoms would be opposite almost.

When the 4 door came out the sales of the 2 door went to near zero. My boss likes to tell the story of a white 2 door they got in when the 4 doors came out and how they could not sell it at dealer cost for a year. You have to remember when the Pathy came out the SUV craze was just about to start. Until then true Utiity Vehicles like the 2 door Pathy were for the most part a niche market - they were essentially body on frame pickups with a hard top. The 4 door was done to appeal to the soccer moms and such and to compete with the sensational new Ford Explorer which came out in 1990 and got the SUV craze going.
