  1. Got my hardbody for $2600 from the 2nd owner (probably a lie). Had 124,000 miles exactly when I signed the title. It has 129.5k miles on it now. I can't tell if it's in better or worse condition than when I got it
  2. didn't rust proof? If Nissan didn't rust proof the metal, it would have rusted through within months. Pre-1996 vehicles had moderate rust prevention, but it was still easily penetrated. There are a few theories about the metal that Nissan used for frames was sub-quality and very vulnerable to rust. Besides that, post-1996 vehicles have plenty of problems with rust also. What you can do is buff the body panels out and make some art work out of bondo. You could also replace the panels from a junkyard donor car or the like. If it's the frame, try this or just cut out pieces of donor frame and weld them in. Check these links out. Front fender rust repair. This is for body panels. True craftsmanship here. Post-1996 rust issues. No bueno.
  3. Thanks for the link. I, too, am very interested in getting flares that look like that. I think I've seen that site before though. Jegs is asking $103 for a 25ft roll. What would you estimate 4 flares adds up to? 8ft?
  4. Kinda confused by "it was in 4x4 hi and low". I have deciphered that "it was in 4hi". You said "2 things", but those two things sound the same. It wouldn't go above 2k RPM and it didn't want to move. Relating this to possible transmission problems because you posted it here, it could be your clutches severely slipping, but this wouldn't affect your engine. More likely causes would be sensors for your rev problem. Your MAF being dirty or not connected properly can make your engine do some weird things. Very unlikely in your situation, but I experienced a similar problem today. My gas gauge was lying to me, and I ran out of gas today. Before the tank was bone dry, my engine would stutter and stumble every once in a while. This has happened to me before so I knew it was coming. I just made it to a friend's house, but I couldn't get it above 2kRPM going up a hill near his house.
  5. That's some good advice. Thanks. That definitely works for replacing the belts, but for now I just need to take them off to diagnose some noises. I should probably replace them since they look pretty crappy. It's little tricks/habits like this that I'm going to start employing in my maintenance. Hopefully, I can do everything properly for my truck from now on because the previous owner sure didn't. As for now, I STILL can't release tension on the power steering pump. I watched a video from a member of this forum but of course he didn't release the tension, he just took the pulley off LOL thanks. I tend to agree, but timing belt replacement kinda scares me. When the time comes, I'm definitely going to do it myself though.
  6. Tungsten, I agree with you. My sound system is pretty moderate but I think about half my speakers are broken. I have some Kenwood headunit. It's pretty good. It has an AUX input, 3 banks of 6 presets for FM, a CD player of course, and some other settings I can't figure out how to use. One of the previous owners put some silly little tweeters up on the dash at the bottom of the A-pillar. I can't even tell if they work properly and they aren't secured firmly anymore. I have the two in the doors and the two behind the seats in the wall of the ext. cab. One of the rear speakers is from a Chysler apparently, and I think my pass. door speaker is stock because it looks like cardboard and has a pretty significant tear in the middle of it. When spring gets started up and I get some money, I plan to do a complete stereo system overhaul. This is not even near the top of my list though. Since the jump seats are a bit impractical anyway, I was thinking about buying or *trying* to make my own subwoofer box to accommodate the trans tunnel. I would put two *insert boss size speaker here* in the box and secure it somehow. I'm not extremely concerned about bass, but it does seem to help if it's not insanely high. I would get some decent tweeters and whatever regular speakers are called. Not tweeters, not subs, just the ones you would put in your doors. The 4 speakers that would make up a 7 speaker set up.
  7. "to actually be considered forced induction" LOL. On the whole, this was my exact thought. Even if the electric motor could spin a big enough turbine at a high enough RPM, the power consumption would be ridiculous. I was thinking of having a 2nd alternator, but that would probably be the exact same as a mechanic supercharger with the drag and crank and pulley wear. Correct me if I'm wrong, but during acceleration is the only time you use the effects of a supercharger. Forced induction at idle isn't very helpful, and you wouldn't want it while deceleration. Pretty much. In theory, if you wanted to keep thinking about this, I think you would have to have a 2nd alternator and 2nd battery.
  8. Just like James Bond's Pathfinder!
  9. YEAH! Please, tell me how you feel about programmer chips. You did. Like my status says, NPORA was down and a bunch of material got deleted. Nobody seems to believe me though. You said something about Mazda 'discontinuing' the rotary engine between every RX car. You said that you hope the RX9 is better than the RX8 because it was terrible, and you said that you think the RX9 won't come out until 2016.
  10. LOL "Is there". ha... This guy. These engines have hoses running everywhere. Boy, do I have some pictures to show you.
  11. We just got mixed up on what we were talking about. I didn't know who he meant by Adam and he said GPS when he meant grounds. I agree. Phones nowadays have a lot of junk stuffed into them that is..mediocre. It will work, I suppose, but nothing to be betting your life, or even money on. I said "about" 14% and unccpathfinder gave a little support towards this. Very true about hotdog buns and bread. What's worse is trying to put two dogs in the same piece of bread because it's too big for one, but too small for two. you were dividing though. That's what threw me off. I guess that's a way to do it, but I just can't imagine my truck actually getting up to 90mph.
  12. VERY good point. Such a common misconception.
  13. That's crazy. I didn't mean it can't happen, because it obviously can, but this sounds like a scary fluke accident. I'm sorry, I'm not a lawyer. I don't know how to cover my ass like an expert. I have come to trust what MY1PATH has to say, so I do believe this situation was sudden failure and not a long-time overlooked component. I thought the stigma about rebuilt WD21 trans is that they don't rebuild well? Just curious, did you have a trans cooler and take all the necessarily steps to prevent the damage and it still happened?
  14. wow... of course. I didn't even see that part. Of course they would say something like that. Man, I put that stuff in when I did a Royal Purple oil change. That's why it looks black already
  15. I would say Kingman is right. Those bushings seem to do a lot of stuff to your vehicle when they go bad. I wasn't saying 4wd was the answer, I was just asking.
  16. Yeah. I understand that. I'm tired of seeing "may contain 10% ethanol" stickers. I just leave nowadays.
  17. um...if he was in 4wd, and one of the hubs didn't lock then one of the front wheels would experience less resistance and swerve that direction. Also, if you are in 4wd and you are in desperate need of an alignment, then you will swerve very easily. Another thread talked about this.
  18. You will be fine. 110k miles is nothing. For these vehicles or any vehicle really. Even if they were serviced terribly, they USUALLY fail around 190k miles I think I've seen around here. Hopefully you changed all the fluid you could and filled it to the proper level. From now on, you might want to invest in a Magnefine in-line filter. The transmission filter really doesn't help you much for small particles. Just make sure it's not getting too hot. That was my mistake. I would put my phone in the center console and after 20mins of driving, it was blazing hot. I didn't even think that the transmission was severely overheating. I thought it was just the summer heat and my phone sucked a lot of battery power. If your trip isn't for a little while, then you want to snag an aftermarket trans cooler and be extra safe. Some Fords have pretty good ones. Hit up your local junkyard. Even if your transmission does start failing on your trip, it won't leave you stranded. Most of the time, reverse stops working or works very slowly. All forward gears still work. In my case, I had shift shock from 1st to 2nd gear. All my other gears still worked just fine. I was using it with the shiftshock for a few weeks until it broke completely due to something else.
  19. I agree with what you said. A can in the tank every other fill up? That sounds a bit excessive.
  20. Only every day of the spring, summer, and fall. My truck is a work truck. I mow lawns for money. I'm in high school. I was actually considering buying one of those trailers for landscaping like the big crews/companies have. I don't have a small attention span. At all. I am a great driver and I am great on focusing on what I need to. What I meant was you have to always check for things flying out. Recently, I went to Atlantic city with a family friend. We put suitcases, coats, bags, food, etc in the back of his pickup truck. He drives a tow truck for a living. He has been doing this for 30 years. A flat bed. He still had to check his rear view mirror every 30 seconds for something flying out the back. Even if a single tan plastic grocery bag flew out and got on someone's windshield, he would be paying a lawsuit for the rest of his life. And that's in the bed of a pickup. Think about a trailer. At 60,70mph, the air flow is extreme. Even something heavy like a chunk of drywall could EASILY go flying. If that hit someone, you would be in jail and paying off a lawsuit for the rest of your life. It happens all the time with dump trucks. I know you can go above 50mph fine on most trailers, I was just saying what U-HAUL said since we rented a U-Haul trailer. I do believe it was a double axle and it was very heavy duty. There were a few times when the driver went above 55mph and that thing got shaky as hell. 110mph with a trailer is just plain reckless.
  21. if the oil is dirty, that means there is less dirt in your engine? The dirt had to come from somewhere
  22. Yeah. 31inches times pi. minus 30inches times pi. There's your difference in distance traveled. Multiply that difference by how many RPMs the tire is doing. That's how far off my speed is. This one post is confusing the hell out of me. Who is Adam? Nobody said my GPS was off (before this)? and nobody said anything about width. my GPS isn't perfect. I have that Samsung Galaxy Android phone. It has had some GPS problems, but they put out patches. when I slow down and speed up, the Speedview app (that's what I'm using) followed me pretty well. ahhhh thanks. That's what I thought. I'm probably being stupid and not really looking, but this stuff should be more obvious. Changing your water pump belt would be a pain in the neck. You have to take off all three belts just to replace that one. And I can't even figure out how to get my P/S belt off! thanks for the support with the tire situation. yep. the tires will do it. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the speedos are known for breaking. The tachs, on the other hand, those have a reputation of malfunctioning over time. It has something to do with the voltage regulator. I think there's a fix in the how-to section.
  23. oh @!*% really? Why? SeaFoam says you can leave it in for the whole length of the oil before you change it.
  24. I'm sure our fact sponge, Towncivilian, will tell you about the chemical make up of SeaFoam and if it's good or bad. I've heard people praise SeaFoam, but I've also heard people heavily praise Lucas products and apparently those are terrible for your vehicle. What I can tell you is: The instructions SeaFoam gives on the can (I think I'm remembering correctly from when I used it once) is to go 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. One third in the gas tank, one third in the crankcase, and one third to the intake through a vacuum line. Go VERY slowly when you do it through the vacuum line. If you go too fast you can hydrolock your engine. Liquids don't compress the same and they will bend your rods
  25. is the PF in 4wd while this is happening?
