If its any consolation there are shops that can straigten frames(better technology than back in '89) my dad go hit pretty bad on the passenger fender/wheel they day he bought it and the frame has never been fully square even after the repair but a 1/8" shim on the BJ and a good alignment has always been able to compensate for the differance. Today I'd imagne it could be straigtened even more accurately so no aditional compensating would be required. hang in there, your pathy 'll bounce back if you do. for the compression rods I reccomend using bearing cups for the bushing cups.( I will be doing this to mine when I get back from cali) a beaing cup will not wear out unlike the stamped factory cups. I already have the bearing cups and the correct PN for more if others or interested. If we are still meeting up on monday I can show you the bearing cups I've chosen and how close they fit the bushings. edit: good time to get a hoohaa centerlink if you can.
  4. this may not be the problem in your case but while your in there double check your OIL PREASSURE sensor. If its loose it will leak oil into your starter... Just trying to prevent more probems once you get this one sloved
  5. I'd think jonny joints would be a good idea if you can do it. Smoother articulation and replaceble busings should always be available. On the other hand I think energy makes some poly ones that should last forever.
  6. I do not know anyting about "all mode" but I would assume that if the hubs are locked and the vehcle thought the auto lock hubs were not dis engaging or vise versea there might be and issue. I do know that after I installed my manual locking hubs and ran them locked I was able to smoothly go in & out of 4wd all the way up to 55mph (prolly could do it faster too but no need). I just lock em when I think theres a chance I might need 4wd and unlock em when I don't think I'll need.
  7. x2 on the sanding and clearing. It may do it again but It'll look nice for a few years first. If there's a way to lower your underhood temps(elec fan, oil cooler, cooler thermostat) It might not happen again so fast.
  8. x2 altho my plans for bumpers are almost complete...
  9. for future searchers; I read about this On the MSD tech foums this topic has been discussed(and I seen it done somwhere else). the connection beween the inernal coil and internal transisor must be separated and 4 msd wires will be soldered inside. It is possible.
  10. the 170 is stock, I would used that. I had the same question in mind when I changed mine but once I decided on 170 and everything started working the way it should I knew I didn't really need the 180 for arround here.(similar conditions)
  11. fully locked diffs such as weleded, spools, and remote engaged lockers(in locked position) all chirp exessively arround turns and can often be felt thru the chasis when doing so. this puts much wear on the tires.
  12. Have cherokee(not grand) xj v6/L6 springs in back. I just had to cut the pigtail off. when I lift I will be getting the rough country 3" lift springs (for the xj)because their spring rate is softer than JGC(v8) coils and they cheaper than other brands out there. edit: xj stock springs may not give you any noticable lift. I did it cause my OE spings were really worn out and sagging so I gained a little.
  13. are you saying an LSD up front will wear out CV's faster?(duh) Will cause CV's to wear out rediculousy fast? you could also check a JY for a 300zx LSD(r200 rear end), but make sure its a cluch type LSD. theres info somewhere here for what year/ edition you should or should not find it in.
  14. i'LL give your questions a shot; 2 major factors that gives IFS the advantage on the road. 1 each wheel can act by itslef with no infulence on the opposite wheel 2 IFS can be designed to change camber under load allowing more tire srface to remain in contact with the road when cornering or driving on a banked road. Solid axle; just like a solid rear axle found on all tucks many high power RWD sports cars and some suv's. on each end is whats called a steering knuckle(also ties uper and lower links together on IFS as a common steering component) its pivots right to left while a CV joint or universal on the end of the axle shaft translates this motion thru the center of the knucle to the wheel. A few Advantages, Ususually very strong(ability to run large heavy tires with mininmal consequece), once assembled the only alignment almost never changes(even if you lift it more) the only change that may need messed with would be TOE in which is the simplest to ajust. much greater range of suspension travel available.
  15. Glad your ok man, Is it just me or does it seem like the 2 door pathys always seem to fair a little better in a rollover. I've heard some say it has an integeral roll bar. I've looked myself w/ the healiner out and this "integeral roll bar" is only a large stamped sub-structure for the roof. none the less I think it seems to keep the roof from caving as much as the 4doors.
  16. Ok, I'm gonna be differant, my vote is for front LSD(if you have rear lsd) I been High cenered a few places where spinning one front wheel and both backwheels led me to desire more up front. But If your open in back (not lsd) than I'd say get a locker.
  17. one of the things that came up when I was having vehicle problems (last week was it?) was a mechanics "identefix buletin" that stated Bad injectors(electrically bad not just leaky) can harm an ECU. I think I got somewhat lucky in this situation because it seems to run fine once I swaped the injectors. maybe after I get back from cali in mid JAN I'll consider finding out what happens if I just by plug in a federal ecu. or if 88 finds his ca you can compare the differances and give me some assureance.
  18. doesn't someone on here have a burout avar that they actually did with the rear brakes disconnected? anyway, I like the whole burnout thing its a (childish) display of power. LOL ok a 150 hp pathy burnout aint foolin nobody but it makes me feel powerful. sometimes I'll do brakstands in traffic on a rainy day. you get some intersting looks. but really, were all just sittng here, waiting on the road, might as well make it fun.
  19. If you used a stethascope It may help you locate the leak. Or you could replace all the vaccum lines being as they are prolly about 20old. I'll be doing that to mine one day, just preventative measure.
  20. thanks yall, the roads finally cleard up enough to drive it the way I like (when I wasnt stuck behind some slow minivan who was scared of the snow on the sholder.) and I gotta say I really like it. It feels just right and I haven't mis-shifted 4th (yet). I'm Lookin foward to my road trip with it.
  21. I don't see why not as long as you get one that maches the threads or use a thread adapter. I've swapped my t-case and tranny knobs a few times to confuese the wife.
  22. when using chains on a 4x4 or AWD vehicle it is reccomeded to use them on the front for maximum braking ablity (all weight goes foward onto them) and handling (cuase you steer with those wheels) X2 on the coolant and blower but 190 thermo? the oem is 170(IIRC) and nissan offers a 180 to boost your heater. unles its always below 20 there I'd think twice about running a 190 thermo on an engine designed for 170. my heater has been working fine here but we haven't got too far below 20 yet and our short "cold winter" is about to end here. tires tires tires. I had some uniroyal laredos which lasted me a long time. I never had any complaint about them, good in the snow, dirt, mud, gravel, stopped on wet pavement and quiet on the higway. when those wore out I got so Pathfinder A/T's for cheap untill I can afford other tires. yeh, I almost got stuck on the plow pile infront of our driveway. they fill up with snow and don't eject it. tires make all the differance.
  23. I always thought a block heater was semi universal; you find the one for the diameter of your freze plugs, pop out a frezeplug and stick the heater in its place. AM I WRONG? theres also heaters you can put on the lower radiator hose
  24. Yeh I just installed Black Magic Extreme! My pathy warms up alot faster in the cold now, I love it!
