Rumbling Noise/Vibe after LS DIfferential Oil Change
adamzan replied to hydrogin's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
If you have an LSD rear diff, you do need the special fluid. Or there is an additive in a small bottle that you can add to regular gear oil. It isn't overly expensive either. -
I already have the gauges, just waiting on this!

It sucks if you drive an auto though. Over drive will kick out on the highway a lot.

Check your sway bar links

The hub on the other side is sticking. Check it out

I had a leak there too. Luckily for me tightening the clamps fixed it. What a bitch to reach

Avoid Garys automotive, active green and ross. Frisby tire is pretty good, I've had my pathfinder in there for an alignment, and they did a good job. I was kinda annoyed that I had an appointment for 9am and the truck sat in the parking lot till after noon though. The Canadian tire on Carling ave is somehow connected with the motorsport club of Ottawa, and I have taken my vehicles there several times. Surprising for a Canadian tire they were prompt, friendly, and did the job right.

Sounds like you have an issue with the alternator or the charging wires
-
^^ Absolutely true. Happened to me and it was a pita to diagnose.

I'd say its normal for the cold weather. When mine is cold there is a crap load of white coming from the tailpipe. Once it gets warmed up there is still some but not as much. All 3 of my pathfinders have done this.

I would suspect something is up with the sensor for the 4x4 light. You said the transmission was rebuilt? So they probably had all that out, I would check that switch. It is on the side of the tcase somewhere. I'm not sure where though.

Engine compression numbers, how much variation is too much?
adamzan replied to Nefarious's topic in The Garage
According to page 46 of the em part of the fsm the standard compression is 173, the minimum is 128, and the limit for difference between cylinders is 14. -
NGK plugs are the best for these rigs. Use whatever the manual says. For wires any decent brand will work (NGK, Bosch), or OEM.

For the mis fire try unplugging the o2 sensor and see if it runs better. They don't always throw a code and it made mine miss and hesitate when it was bad.

Timing belt issue. Cam sprocket marks moved 4 teeth!
adamzan replied to Nefarious's topic in The Garage
You're lucky! I believe you can go up to 2 teeth off without hitting anything. Any more than that and I don't want to know what happens. -

Where are you getting your belts? The gates belt I got from carquest had the marks on it. -
I'm not sure. The most I've seen fail in person were ones with no reverse, or reverse that slipped so bad you had it at 4k rpm and it crawled along. I also saw one once that had 1st and 3rd but no 2nd or overdrive LOL. The guy was 2 quarts low on ATF but unfortunately topping it up did not fix it. My old pathy that I had for almost 6 years had an intermittent no reverse problem that turned out to be a clogged valve body. My new one, the previous owner replaced the transmission with a "low mileage" one from a used auto parts place. It shifts ok but I find the shifts kind of sloppy. If I have to I will get it rebuilt or find an xterra HD tranny to rebuild and throw in.

adamzan replied to Nefarious's topic in The Garage
You said you counted 40 valleys. It's supposed to be 40 teeth. Unless you just said it wrong that mould be your issue right there. -
I'm curious as to how it shifts. The stock shifts are normally hard 1-2, long soft 2-3, and a "normal" 3-4.
-
fskc you're a dumbass to the OP I would keep at it, it will eventually break loose. Try heating it and then throwing cold water on it. I've had success with that in the past.

I like Krown rustproofing. I have seen enough vehicles that have been treated since new to say that it works very well. Including a guys wd21 pathfinder, that has been here in Ottawa since new, treated every year and I could eat off of his frame. I just had mine done, it does drip for a couple of days but they really soaked the hell out of it.
-
That looks cool, I've been keeping an eye out for a blown AT to try and rebuild myself. But I'd only take it if it was free and already pulled, lol.
-
Well according to this; http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/21-ecu-self-diagnostics-for-87-95-pathfinder/ code 33 is for the o2 sensor. Which I can confirm as I have had to replace it myself. So maybe you changed the wrong sensor lol.

Bought my first 95 back in 2006, had 180,000km, just sold it to my buddy recently with over 420,000km on it. He is going to use it as a plow truck. Bought my 94 last november but only put it on the road this past march. Bought her with 230,000km and now has almost 250,000. For the record my first 95 had the original motor, trans (auto), and everything else. I never even changed the starter! The body was getting pretty rusty and I didn't have the means to fix it right.

My other pathy has a viper alarm/keyless/remote start that according to the paperwork was put in, in 1997. And it still works perfectly! Sent from my BlackBerry 9670 using Tapatalk
