What would you pay for this 91' Pathy?
unccpathfinder replied to BonnerBB's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
I would go ahead and change the fluid and make sure the right amount of fluid is in the tranny... try different driving/shifting styles...depending on how bad it is you may find a way that it likes to be driven...keep driving it till she gets bad (not going into gears and what not) then I would get a used tranny as far as mechanically inclined...you can always start to learn. If tehre are members in your area that have experience you may be able to get them to help you out so you can learn and get a much cheaper price on labor. -
hmm for the most part it depends on the situation...if i'm driving on deep beach sand and going to be going for a while i'll usually start off in 2nd since 1st is so short...most of my beach driving is done in 2wd...in fact most of my offroading is done in 2wd b/c I like to see how far I can go B4 needing 4wd I typically do not ride the clutch to control speed and since 1st is so short you can usually go pretty slow and under control in 1st alone. there have been situations where I did have to ride the clutch a little bit but those were generally stopping on an obstacle and trying to get back rolling without slipping the tires and getting into a worse situation so sacrificing a little life of the clutch was ok. I have never rode it hard enough to get the "burning clutch smell" while on the trail I would recommend warn manual locking hubs too.

my 87 has never had its R sensor to work constantly. The guy told me when he got it from nissan they replaced it several tiems and after teh warranty he never screwed with it. I know in NC the reverse lights are not a part of the safety inspection which made me happy b/c I was going to have to rig something up for the inspection if it was but that sucks for your case in MD. The only suggestion I can make is this...the wiring may visually look good... take a relay and do a simulation mock-up (relay with some bulbs laying under the truck using hot power from the battery and the switch to control the relay while its installed on the tranny...if that works then its the wiring in the truck and I would just "rig" it to work by wiring a new relay and just clip, cap and stow all the wires and splice in the new wiring so that the R lights work. I guess an easier way would be to probe along the wire route at all connectors (so you dont pierce the insulation) with a multi meter to try and find where the dead spot is. nice write up on the tool...I like you woudl rather go and get a cheap socket from pepboys and make what i need instead of spending the high dollar on it. I have made several tools including pretty much the same thing but I used it on the O2 sensors. my most popular one was the spindle locknut tool from a (i think 3/4 ton truck) I saw this a couple of threads down i donno if it'll help at all (http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=13370) Nice looking dog does it have boarder collie in it?

Maybe I did get lucky...i'll have to dig out the bottles to see if they say it on there. I have no idea what Jiffy Lube (no I would never take my vehicles there) put in all it says is GL5 on the receipts from the original owner of my 95 but I do know its tranny seems to be in worst shape than my 87 but like i said its not bad

Teach her to drive stick...its not all that hard I taught a couple people how to drive and I taught an ex on the pathy but she opted to not continue her driving lessons after I yelled at her b/c she was rolling back on a bmw and just yelled more clutch and then she didnt do it and we stopped like a half inch from him...she set the brake and got out if my brother can drive stick anyone can...he bought an escort with a MT and never drove one before...it was rather funny at 1st but I think thats a skill that everyone should have... put the MT in and you'll be good to go...if she doesnt want to learn then get a new gf

clogged washer nozzles or hate the streams? look here
unccpathfinder replied to kneedeep's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
another fun thing to do is turn your nozzles to the sides and have the reservoir full of water (not washer fluid) and if they have their window down and are being annoying or you just want to give your friends riding with you a good laugh or whatever the reason is you can just spray them down... My buddy did that on his truck all the time and usually would get people in the parking lot at school...good times -
Brake booster is pressurized and assists the MC somehow...not really sure how it all works...I had a friend who actually had a bad MC and the weep hole got clogged so over time it filled the BB completely with brake fluid and he became a skeeter fogger. It took me about 30 mins to figure it out b/c i knew it wasnt coolant or oil and i started pulling vaccum lines and pulled the one off the booster and the truck stopped running like ass and stopped smoking like hell If you end up needing/wanting a replacement PM me I've got 1 I can sell you at a good price (really good compared to new)

my 87 (has over 250k miles on it) has run GL5 for at least 150k miles and on a cold day it won't like 2nd gear but if you pull towards 4th and slide over to 2nd it goes in and no issues and I've never had any grinding in it... my 95 has 160K miles on it and I know it has at least 100K miles running GL5...until I figured it out it would grind going into 1st but I figured out her tricks and doesnt have any issues Both trucks I can still RPM shift so I know the syncro's aren't that bad off. I'm not saying its ok to run GL5 but my trucks have run it and i was scared to switch back so they've stayed GL5...and I'm not all that easy on them lots of quick shifts and what not...hope I get to go home for Xmas so I can drive the 95...shes been sitting for almost 6 months with a bad starter...she'll get a good couple hours to warm up B4 she gets beat on... I want a 71

initial thought was it woudl drip on the engine but you can just put an oil pan up there and catch everything...I would watch those hoses as you drive they will vibrate and chafe (i'm thinking the PS reservoir) and eventually cut through the hoses and leave you with an oily mess. I would try to wrap them and make sure you have good clearance on the headers as mentioned. Other than that I think it looks good.

This is the earliest one I could find...but it says only the 1st 1000 posts were searched so maybe i'm still noobing up our search feature...I'm sure there was other posts where I poked my head in from behind the shadows that talked about teh truck B4 the metric system...

damn my buddy had like the 1st rio that came out that was like $7k with the 5 speed in it and i swaer it was a go-kart on steroids...it would get up and move he had it for about 4 years and it got broken into like 5 times and hit in the school parking lot about the same amount so he traded it in on an 99 camaro...which he kept for a couple of years then traded it in on his ranger...he still says he wishes he had it for his commuter car... but he never had a lick of trouble out of it

the only flat spots I know of are on the top of the box and in the drivers side fender (don't know how much that would help)
-
I was gonna say ohh taht was you...
-
there is also a turn buckle that you can adjust to tighten the cables up if its not already maxed out...just follow the parking brake cable up towards the front of the truck and you'll find it

From my experiences in painting flat with a rattle can is its hard to get good even coats and I can always see some streaks here and there but if I'm painting with a satin, gloss or semi gloss I can paint without any runs or leaving any can strokes You could always cover it with mud and just keep the windows washed...I know a guy in Baton Rouge that did that with his old tacoma b/c it got beat up pretty good so the mud kept it all covered up
-
i'll agree with MWS on that...forgot about that lil booger...
-
I've never seen the O2 in the cat...on my 87 and 95 and the 94 i stripped they were precat (i think or postcat premuffler but I'm pretty sure it was precat)

I have never had a problem getting along with a machinist this guy pretty much tells me i'm stupid every time i send something over to him, I think it is mostly b/c my boss and manager are completely ignorant to what it takes to make a part and have sent things over missing dimensions or are just damn near impossible to make and expect him to do it in a couple of hours...that and they refuse to put 3 views on a drawing when its a flat plate and don't understand why he wants the side profile that shows the hidden lines for counter sinks and counter bores... These guys brought me on board to set up a simple shop here since i'd say 95% of our stuff is flat plate or a flat lug without any requirements for a CNC (a bridgeport would do everything I belive) but yea they haven't followed through with that so we needed these simple bushings made out of some rectangle stock and he was like I don't have time to do it so if you can run a machine i'll let you do it to my manager and as soon as he said ok not a problem I've got a guy he changed his mind but I don't blame him since he had this guy working in there that crashed 2 of his 3 machines within a week CAD is easy and once you get rolling on a program you can roll into other programs with ease (for the most part) I like parametric programs but have been using a gumby cad program at my current job and I've learned to deal with it but had to change the design procedures. If you throw me some sketches with dimensions I can crunch out some 3D and 2D for ya fairly quickly especially if you want to compensate me for the time

Theres a guy that does work for us in Bakersfield I believe. I know 1 shop closed and he let the bank take all of his equipment but this other guy seems to be pretty stable but it may take him some time b/c his production runs take priority over 1 offs but he has done a bunch of 1 offs for us. I'll see if I cant remember his name Now there is a machine shop in Tehachapi if you have drawings and can deal with him being an very particular (now I've worked with several machinists and know they're all particular and dont want @!*% drawings but this guy takes the cake to the point that he screwed up a simple part for me and I just made it work b/c I didnt want him to find a way to blame me even though he couldnt b/c I make sure my drawings are good B4 he gets them) (no offense B I know it comes with the trade) that is reasonable on price and time. His company is Scott Bomar Machine Honestly if its just straight cuts I wouldn't be able to justify getting it CNC'd or WJ or any other maching other than possibly using a hydrolic shear to cut plate steel. With the use of a band saw, abrasive blade on a table saw and an air grinder I have made parts consistently within .010-.030 which I believe is much tighter of a tolerance than you will need but then again I have the ability and know how to fabricate stuff so if thats not you maybe its better to have it done by someone else

i've had the same RS5000's on my 87 for 9 years now...the front was at a good ride the rears were much stiffer than the ole worn out crap I pulled off and it took some getting used to especially when going over small bumps under acceleration you would get wheel hop and a good jolt to the back but it was the 2 dr with no carrier so who knows...just seemed like a pickup truck reaction to me
-
The main difference is the head rests so if you put the 93-95 and it doesnt cover the headrests you'll be good
-
yea that would be sweet...I was taking some measurements off of my buddies fronty and it looks like the dash would fit in the WD without too big of a headache...update with pix would be great.
-
it should go on one way. I think the top one over laps the bottom but I could have that backwards...but it should only go on 1 way

I've drank beer while wheeling and don't have a problem with it as long as I'm not in an OHV and I know the trails and I'm not hammered... I've had beers in a car while heading to the beach or on a trip with friends...stupid yes but whoever was driving was limited to 1 per hr which still carries the same penalties as the driver drinking 12 and driving but we don't want to kill someone. The same goes for boating although if I'm in charge of guiding the boat I will not drink b/c things on the seem to happen a lot faster than on the roads. There was 1 night me and the ex gf drove back from Ga to NC and shouldnt have but that was after a guy threatened to kill me and was pretty serious about it b/c he was screwed up on so many drugs and we neither one had the $ to get a hotel and she didnt want to sleep on the side of the road...it was her car and she was much better than me but still would have pass a sobriety test but probably failed the breath test...As hammered as I was I gave perfect directions out of BFE gave her a good heads up on a deer that was about to jump out that let her get slowed down and stopped about 4 feet from the deer and at about 7am I was well enough off to complete the last 2 hours of the drive when she was about to fall asleep...that is by far the stupidest thing that either one of us have done and wouldnt ever do that again. I have a couple friends that would get hammered and drive and i refuse to ride with them and in college I was known to walk anywhere to up to 10 miles to get home b/c there was no way me or my friends were getting in the car with me driving or any of them if they weren't good to drive and if not we called someone or all piled in a cab. Hell I even walked to a frat house that one of my buddies was pledging too b/c he was suposed to be leaving for a good long drive and when we got over there he was passed out drunk so we had a chevy door key and opened up his silverado to get the keys to the tool box jacked his truck up took the drivers side tire off so he would see it was off before trying to drive somewhere and hid the lug nuts in his console...he was pissed but when he found out it was us he was very thankful b/c after seeing that he didnt even look for the lug nuts and I tihnk he would have killed himself or someone that night if he had drove. This was a guy I went to high school with and "the friend" referred to in the article is one of my closest friends and was the DD who Jackson was supposed to ride with but the girls were at the bar across the parking lot and he had gone to tell them that he was taking everyone home when he got back his roommate and friend were nowhere to be found...The sad part is that guy that killed him was found walking down the highway and didnt even remember that jackson was in the car and when they told him he only wanted his wallet and phone. After being bailed out he was seen at parties getting drunk...his blood test somehow got "tampered with" and were thrown out of court. In court he showed no remorse for what happened. He has since finished school and I don't know where he is but definitely don't feel he got what he deserved in life yet since he was a repeat offender of DUI's. He was a passenger with the seat slightly reclined and his "head injuries" were pretty much decapitation. http://www.madd.org/Article-Archive/2008/J...ing-Victim.aspx So yea I've had beers on the road and on the trails and will probably have them on the trail again but its within limits and the understanding that if I'm caught I could loose my truck, license and possibly job and is it worth the risk, no but thats why its never on governed trails like OHV parks but on private land... I picked up a ton of beer cans everytime i went to URE none of which were mine and i've never had a beer on a trail there but if I would have my cans would have been crushed and put in a bag in the back just like any other drink I would have on the trail. I won't judge you for it and if I was on the trail and could tell that you were drinking other than obviously seeing a dixie cup and were keeping up and not doing stupid stuff then I wouldnt have a problem with it if there's a doubt that you could walk the line then don't take the chance but that doesn't mean hand the keys to someone else assuming that they are ok to drive. I don't think there is anyone that hasn't driven when they shouldnt have but I'm sure they thought about it quite a bit afterwards

hmm and you're sure the wires are good...it could be possible that periodically you get an interference from one of the adjacent plug wires? in my 95 there is (i think its ignition timing sensor or something) that is in the Dizzy that could be bad...I donno what it does and i dont even think i have the right name there but that could be something with it? I did have my dizzy loosen up one time and it shot the timing to @!*% but it wouldnt return to where it should be...the only thing i can think that would cause it is something with the dizzy... maybe the rotor set screw stripped out and sometimes it gets caught and slips then after a couple dozen or 100 rev's it returns back to where the setscrew is lined up but i think thats a long shot
