I answered you on AC too, but I'll answere here too just incase. I drilled and tapped mine out to 1/2" 13 thread size. Very common size , not much larger.

Off the showroom, I would still have to go with old WD-21s. Not as much plastic to fall off

I know when I did my 93 they didn't line up perfect either. My Step-Dad (ASE Master Mechanic) set both cams just slightly off the marks (split the differance). It actually ran better after than it had before the T-belt change . When I did my 88s with him, it lined up dead on, so they might have gotten the marks off on later models or something.

Yeah, the older frames were better, less prone to the rear rust out behind the wheels in the 80s. Look for rust in the floorboards instead on that; unter the pedals, rear seats and rear seat foot wells (crawl under and look at them). If they look like they are flaking, then they are probably rusted through and the solid part you see is the floor insulation.

One thing that works well and is cheap is rubber roofing material. My old foreman used it in the back of his Rodeo and it worked great, the light grey even matched his interior (not that his interior was nice at all).

Are we talking this bad? I priced OEM replacement metal for the rockers before that happened, was like $90 for just the section under the front door. My plan is to cut them off completely and put some box steel down there.

Yeah, IIRC the crossover pipe goes over the tranny also, instead of under like on our trucks. Might work with a BL and a good hammer

The last pic shows the problem, the end links are too long. The collar (spacer) on mine were about 1 1/2", those in that pic look like almost 3". I removed both front and rears, I like the gentle roll on corners better than the snap back afterward with the sways.

You can run those on an 8" just fine, any wider than that and you would definately want to get a 10" though.

I agree, look for a local vinyl decal maker and have them done. There is one of those guys in every flea market around here doing them up.

Usually they galvanize things that won't be painted, at least in construction (flashing, vent pipes, etc).

IIRC the injectors used on the 4cyl TBI system are the same, just grab one at the Junkyard.

I have noticed in my 88 on very cold days it won't shift above second till the tranny has warmed up a little. Did you do a tranny swap? 89 didn't have an OD, just a 4th gear.

I just want to swap out the super cheap set I have in my 88. I bought a set of 4 rockers (blue, green, red, and orange) with a plate that holds all 4 for $5. They are functional, but not exactly what I want. (hell I still need to find a place to mount my PIAA switch )

Jay, spend a little time browsing this site or AC, almost every little issue your truck has is common for it's age, and others have been there done that as for fixes. You call it a "build project", looks like any other fixer upper to me

I grabbed one in a JY and installed it on my 93. Simple swap of the hinges and done.

I removed the carpet and bedlined my 88, I don't think the bedliner does anything for sound deadening in it, though my exhaust leak drowns out any other noises.

Same here, no issues. You'll get a stiff ride if you crank the T-bars till you hit the bumstops, otherwise no issues.

Lock-Rite makes (made?) one that just replaced the spider gears, but it only worked in an open carrier, not LSDs. LSD carriers are a 1 piece housing where as the opens are 2 piece (some 97 HBs have 1 piece opens fyi).

I had a good set of blue ones I threw out 6 months ago that came out of my 88.
