What Am I - Part 2

I've had this spider in my garden all summer and have watched it grow to quite a healthy size. The only thing is I have never seen anything like it. Its got some yellow, almost neon stripes. Its about the size of a ping pong ball. Its been sitting amongst my tomatoes taking care of all the pesky cabbage moths.

Anyone know what kind of spider this guy is? Sorry for the blurry pics.

It is a black-and-yellow argiope (Argiope aurantia), or writing spider.

Also I should mention that it is not dangerous or anything, and is a good critter for protecting your tomatos.

Also another common name for that spider is garden spider, or tomato spider.

Thanks for the id on the spider! I was able to take some better pics with the camera this morning with the full sun providing great lighting. Check out these close ups of the same spider. Looks like it was getting ready to have some lunch. This sucker is getting bigger and bigger by the week.

I would make that thing crunch SO quick if I saw it. A 4.5" bug? That thing is just BEGGING to die. At least if it's dead, and I have to scrape it off my shoe, I know it isn't going to take a healthy chunk out of me.

The man book says only small things are to be stepped on to be eliminated.

At 4.5" long, I believe the manly thing to do is shoot it. .177 or .22 caliber would be appropriate. Anything over .25 is pure exhibitionist behavior.
