a good driver uses engine braking efficiently, EVERY DAY THEY DRIVE regardless of whether its a truck or not. An inexperienced driver / woman driver relies only on the disc brakes, thats how you warp rotors and put extra wear-and-tear on parts that dont deserve the abuse. Hell, most people dont even know what engine braking is. First of all, engine braking saves your "real" brakes, big time. Less wear and tear, less heat to warp the rotors prematurely. Engine braking helps MPG. When one is engine braking in a modern car with EFI, the injectors shut off completely. The engine is running off the load of deceleration. This is extra obvious to anyone who has ever used an air/fuel gauge. I learned engine braking as an essential tool in towing, and now i apply it to the QX4 every day, and my automatic is still running strong at 160k miles. I personally dont like dropping it into first if im already in motion in 2nd gear. It is too low. Second is the lowest ill go when engine braking.

wronge year. u want these. https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=4998 you can get away with only two bushings but i did all 4 lower bushings just to do it turns out, when i took it all apart, only one of the stock bushings was torn causing the desath sway, the other 3 were fine but i replced them anyways
-
the poly bushings at www.4x4parts.com are stronger and cost slightly less than those nissan bushings. i just replaced mine, death wobble is completely gone and the suspension feels GREAT

why dont you want to flush? i was skeptical on flushing too, until i went and did it, and it actually made a noticeable difference. i thought the tranny was already smooth, i had no idea it could get even smoother

VH45 Swap & SAS Update (Merged Threads)
FUELER replied to tmorgan4's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
nice work!!!!!!!!! -
I just installed a plain jane, square 2" receiver and im happy with it so far... hangs down low, though. i like the custom ones that are integrated into a rear bumper.....
-
i think most people refer to the "A" shaped piece in a McPherson suspension, as the control arm. trailing arm is the lower link that connects rear axle to the body or frame. Truthfully, i always refer to the rear trailing arm as a "rear control arm" and even though its incorrect, people usually know what im talking about.

i learned a whole bunch of recovery tactics when i was a tow truck driver. I also learned how to break into just about any kind of car. If any of you get a chance to be a tow truck operator, do it!!! Its fun (and dangerous)!!!

my next projects....suspension and research
FUELER replied to smoke's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
i have hawk HPS brake pads and i love them, id recommend them for spirited driving monroe is the largest suspension company in europe so that goes to show something.... but ill be honest i have monroe on my chevy and they blew prematurely. Lovin the KYB's on the R50 -
ya the most i ever got in mine is 19 gallons, i wonder if its designed to show low on the gauge even with several gallons still at the bottom of the tank, or if the breather hose at the top of the tank hangs down low (like in the controversial jeep wrangler gas tanks)

Cant find an authoritative thread on rotors.
FUELER replied to jproy's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
ya country doesnt matter. i seen german, american, and japanese rotors all warp. i had a cheap set of japanese rotors (the brand name was "mountain") and they warped QUICKLY. i upgraded to brembo rotors from italy and wow they are some nice brakes. They arent a big brake kit, but they sure as hell behave like one. -
tirerack is good sometimes, i got a great deal on my brembo brakes through them but not always the cheapest.... for example they want $165 each for my size BFG, plus shipping it comes out to like $180 each and then you got to go pay for mounting and balancing..... in the end you pay $200+ per tire i went to a local, non-chain tire shop and picked up the same size BFG's for $140 each installed

Anyone have Sylvania Silverstar bulbs?
FUELER replied to findmypath's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
ive had several silverstars and they tent to burn out within 6 to 8 months. Thats just too frequent for me. But they do look good. And it wasnt a fluke cause one will always go out within a week of the other (if installed at the same time) -
i have a playstation2 offroad game that has a 1989-1995 pathfinder in the lineup..... i thinks its called ATVoffroad fury 4
-
i bought one and never installed it cause its like 65 lbs and blocks the oil filter, no more oil changes

^^ listen to this man! Funny you post this photo. I had a problem with KYB struts up front, that the threaded shaft didnt stick up far enough (at least not enough for the abuse of rock crawling), the nut broke loose while offroading (stripped the threads right off) and caused a lot of damage. My mechanic somehow found a KYB strut that had a much longer threaded shaft, and we were able to put two nuts on each shaft for double the strength. I always wondered how he found a longer strut and i think this post cleared that up... he probably found a strut from an earlier model R50!

and people think vibrating wheels (out of balance) is not a major problem... lol!

LOL sorry that video is hilarious!! i love how mean our engines sound, but WOW are they weak!! i think its 0-60 in under 13 seconds hahah dont take that offensively, i got the same engine and mine does the same thing sounds like a 300zx but accelerates like a school bus
