  1. JB welded a sparkplug into a Baja bug that I had driven to Cabo San Lucas. Made it almost to La Paz before it shot out into the desert (taking the wire with it) where I bought a new head and installed it on a soft shoulder... I've duct taped tent poles, water lines, windows, headlights, electrical, rock holes, sting rays, etc... I couldn't possible list it all. I'll take the duct tape... B
  2. $72.95 First place I looked... B
  3. Well, that would be $1K towards my SAS... B
  4. '88 A torque wrench is recommended, but for the final torque, I found an object that was 1 lb, tied it to a string and hung it from a stud that was in the 3 o'clock position... you are at 1+ lbs when you are tight enough so it will not rotate the rotor. Yes, mws, I do account for the coeficient of friction and the break free energy by rotating it slightly and observing the drag... B
  5. SSSHHHHHHHHHH !!! Don't give away any secrets !!! B

I have a set installed. I like them so far... A bit stiff in back if you are unloaded, but nice to have with a load. The front are just the way I like it. Good deal also, I got a 5 unit set for $120. B
  7. Ok, tomorrow after work I'll type it up... B
  8. 4 14mm bolts... *snort* Nice Mantra... B
  9. Your friend did you no favors... The manual (for my 95) says to tighten to 72 Ft/lbs spin a few times to seat, then retorque to .4-1.1 Ft/lbs. I always recheck bearings a few hundred miles after installation regardless. Your bearings are probably the issue; I'd open the hubs up, re-grease and torque to the specification (or do a proper installation seating procedure). This isn't something to Gomer... B
  10. Personally, I'd get the radials, regardless of daily driver or not... Take some picts !! (before and after) B
  11. *sweeps away the rubbish....* Huh... That is kinda cool ! B
  12. I'm sure it could be done reasonably easily and safely, but the automagic tranny sounds like a better choice... Do you really want to retrain yourself to operate a clutch "backwards" ?? How many times will you goof badly ? What about the next car ? Sorry about the back issues, everything else is attached to it so it can be quite problematic. I've been there before and I'm sure I'll deal with it again... B
  13. LOL Dowser, I take it that it is not fixed yet ?? While they are similiar, I think the considerably more pronounced slope of the rear makes them pretty easy to tell apart amongst other things... B
  14. LMAO @ Burper Absolutely, good call !! My bad for forgetting to mention it... B
  15. I seem to remember someone bypassing the original knock sensor and installing a new one somewhere else that was easier to get to. MaritimeMan ? Mookie ? sw ? I'll try to find it... HAHAHAHAHA !!! Found it... http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showto...hl=knock+sensor B
  16. Normally, no, although it you drive it until a catastrophic failure, maybe... Try just changing the tranny fluid (synthetic if you can afford it) and fill it per the TSB link. Then drive and monitor it. It may improve... Regardless, you are just out a few $ for oil, worth a shot in my book. B
  17. LOL, but have you looked at the adjustment yet ?? B
  18. With jack stands, me thinks you could test 4wd without the motor running. Jack up the front, put it in 4wd and turn the wheels. Methinks it would engage the same as the front axle turning ? Maybe not ? If not, put the tranny in neutral and turn the front drive shaft ? Transfer case in neutral ?? Sheit, now I confused. It's got to be something with the hubs whould. As 88 said, there's not a lot in there. Could you have buggered up the install ? B
  19. ^ DOH !! Now thats insulting !! Yep on the 4runner... I just figure they are people who don't pay attention, register what they see or think before they open their mouth. No biggie, thats their problem, not mine... B
  20. Yep, like rennwerkes said... And Slick also about burping. Generally, if the temperature changes from what was "normal pattern" quickly, something is failing. If it is gradual, it's usually a little bit of everything. Unless it is new, change the coolant (maybe flushing the system if it's crusty inside), burp it, check the fan clutch (spin it by hand, it shouldn't freewheel more than 1-4 or 1/2 turn max) and see what it does. B
  21. 3) Unsnap the cap from the antenna base 4) Remove screws and lift off the antenna, pulling the cable with it carefully. Well, thats the world according to Chilton. It's cold and cloudy outside and I'm too lazy to look right now. When the sun comes out... B
  22. Reverse still works ?? When was the last time the tranny fluid was replaced ? What does the tranny fluid look/smell like now ? After normal driving check to see how warm the lines are at the tranny cooler. How many miles on tranny ? Stock or aftermarket tranny cooler ? I seem to remember something about the light flashing, but can't recall it... B
  23. It depends on how your wheel stops are adjusted, right ? B
