Ahh, first bike. Good thinking, but remember, you can dead yourself on a 600 almost as easy. Don't waste much $ on mods, tires and exhaust (maybe a rear sprocket) will do you fine. Just remember, 2 tires are whats keeping you in contact, so don't skimp there!! As for insurance, yes, thats one of the reasons I'm selling it. I call an insurance company, ask for a quote, tell them what I have and they start snickering. The worst quote I got was $7,000 per year; they couldn't by law not insure me but they could make it DAMN unattractive!! (spits on the busa. it may be faster, but it is not nearly as user friendly and who goes more than 180?) After 10PM and before 10am June through September. Been there many times. B

My 95 with LSD does not make any sound at any time. Not sure what you mean by binding up... Is it all the time, on the gas or off the gas? My LSD will grab if I step on the gas before fully into the turn; I can feel it. If the road is wet and I floor it, I wind up spinning around all over the place, so I know it works, almost too well!! 88 is right, not as good as a locker, but far better than an open diff. Like he said, replace the fluid and check the old. Any metal shavings or alarmingly large chunks? Use aproved GL-5(? double check on this) with LSD additive and see how it does. It should only be $15 max. B Oh, do you live in salt country? Make sure the drive train universals are ok and lube them if they have fittings.

Watch how you adhere them, you need to remove them to get to some windshield wiper parts and the wells fill up with crap that can cause problems eventually. RTV ( fancy silicone) is probably a good bet. B

The cat back, SS pipe and magnaflow muffler was about $240 installed in Cali 3 years ago. I'm not sure what that means where you are. No biggie, unless you have the owners manual(and read it), have talked to someone or monkey'd with the shifter a lot you wouldn't know it. A few people have been stymied by it. I believe it's to keep idiots from spraying transfer case parts all over the highway while they 'shift on the fly'... B

I don't know first hand, but it seems like 70mm is suitable, but I doubt 75mm would hurt (thats an additional .2" of thread). It's a thru hole without immediate obstruction behind it, right? Then go to 80mm for good luck? 25.4mm=1". 1mm=.0394" 5mm of 1.5 pitch thread=3.4 turns If the thread is there, use it. If it can pass thru, do so. You're welcome. B

I know of a guy who swears by denatured fish oil; spray and forget. The plus side is that it is cheap and has no negative impact on the environment like some liner products or using motor oil, etc... B

Nice! They are fairly cheap and common in the US, but I understand that you are in a different situation. The best modifications are the ones you derive and successfully install yourself. B

I have a flowmaster cat back on mine that I am quie happy with. mws is dead right about the pipe diameter. I have to ask, were you pushing DOWN on the shifter when going from 4wh to 4wl? Dude, don't even waste your time! I have a 2001 CBR1100XX with 18,000 miles (set up for touring) for sale. You want fast? 140+ BHP (it's NOT the same as 120 out of a 600cc. TORQUE my man!!). 1/4 mile in a sneeze (10.2- if you can keep the front end down, I recommend 2nd gear starts and only shifting once). 180+ max speed with the stock sprockets. I crossed Nevada from Ely to Falon in 3 hours 20 minutes, not counting the burger stop. Never raced, lightly dropped once. Ventura rack/pack, Tour Master soft bags, Mini tank bag, Cheetah SST smoke windscreen, NEF throttle lock. I put 6000 miles on it in 6 weeks in one trip, it was easy; I was camped 1/2 the time... (averaged 45mpg that trip) You don't have any twisties in LV, not that the Blackbird can't handle them and a 600 with 8" will handle worse. Mt Charlston, some canyons and maybe Lake Mead area but thats so clogged it's useless. Yes, I know the area. You need an open road bike that has the looks. Yeah, I'm trying to sell you. $7,000 for all of it. PM me if you want. Regardless of that, I hope you like what you have (but don't waste time butchering it) B Oh, be careful...

Thanks Simon. Um, yeah... The fact that they can't see it run/drive it (no radiator?) doesn't help. The fact that you list no price doesn't help. 0 miles on a rebuilt motor (by who, warranty?) doesn't help. I know it's you and I think you know what you are doing BUT, you understand... As a parts pig, it's still only worth some $ to someone local and willing to gamble on the motor(no offense) or needs the tranny. But then the Pathy's rot out there before the tranny gives, right? My recommendation is to part it out, bit by bit. Sure, it may take some work but you should be able to get at least $1500 before shipping with some patience. Sell the interior as fast as you can reasonably, incl all lights, wiring, bumpers and all the rest of the light stuff. People mess up their trucks regularly and don't want to go to the dealer or don't have a junkyard near by or just don't have the time. Slick needs a front differential. 88 needs a tranny (last I heard). Someone who just tossed a timing belt may want the motor (with reassurances). You get the point... Shipping doesn't cost THAT much within a few states for the heavy items, try Yellow Freight. Good Luck. B

Err, there have been SOOOO many threads about headers. Basically, you have a choice between Thorleys and Pace Setters, Thorley being prefered and (of course) more expensive. I seriously suggest searching the Garage section as well as the 2 door/4door forums for information. There will be info, prices, install tips, etc; far too much to repeat... B

Hmm... I'm not sure. It's 1k miles away (SF bay area in Cali) and I'm not sure if I or the GF can take the time off to do it right. The desire to go is there though. I'd love to meet and hang out with the people I've met and 'known'!! Hard choice between this and a cruise in the Carribian... I must admit, this does make some real sense. It would allow more local (state wise) people to meet, foster the whole first person relationships, and motivate others to participate, even more in the future. Kinda like the Olympic torch thing, but we'd probably be the special... Could this be set up for, say, 5 locations in the US ?? B
