My mods are a lift, MT tires, headers, 2.25" piping with a high flow cat. Around town I get 14-15mpg, no trips yet. I think I may have a sensor issue or small exhaust leak though. Tungsten, you can get 25 mpg?? I really find that hard to believe... B
-
Exactly Coming from the guy who sleeps in trunks... Proof that you can make things fool proof, but not damn fool proof!! B
-
A little more info about the backfire please. Were you idling, cruising, accelerating or letting off of the gas? Was the engine warm or cold? Were you playing Jazz or Country on the radio?? For the squeeky belt, apply some soap on the underside of a belt while it is running (be careful!!). See if it squeals next time you start the truck. If so, it's probably not that belt so do the same to the next one... B

Skip, trouble shoot the EGR first, it may not need replacing, just cleaning. IF you do not have a manual, buy a Haynes, it will help. As for 500hp, my 84 D720 with the Z24I was rated at 106hp factory fresh. Best damn vehicle I have ever owned, but also one of the slowest. That includes the VW bugs I've had... B

Sounds like it was a good thing that it didn't run like that!! You must have had poor compression and a lot of oil blowby. I wouldn't be suprised if those plugs don't last too long. Glad it was a fairly cheap and easy fix though... B
-
Yep, black equals rich, or oil fouling but it's pretty easy to tell the difference. Check what Adam listed, but start with checking the ECU for fault codes... B
-
Exactly!! Try heating the bolt with a torch also and beating on the end with a hammer to ring it, just make sure not to fold any threads if you hit the bottom. B
-
My guess is that your EGR valve isn't functioning correctly, has a torn diaphram, etc or the EGR tube is clogged with crud build up. I can't tell you how to check it as I'm not familiar with that set up, but that is where to start. B
-
I highly recommend replacing the bushings while you are at it... B
-
You complain aboot rust and you don't have penetrating fluid?? B
-
This. Unbolt the drive shaft from the rear end and wire it up out of the way... B
-
I'd guess fuel filter, but have you run the ECU for fault codes yet? That's the best place to start. B

*sigh* In the US, it is illegal to remove and not replace (or hollow) the cat on a vehicle so equipped from the factory, regardless of local smog testing or not. It's not worth aguing with people not to be irresponsible, but a high flow cat can be had cheaply and does not negatively affect the motors performance. You aren't running a nitro funny car, you have a 3 liter V6... B
-
LOL you can get a high flow cat for $30 if you don't live in Kalifornikatistan... B
-
I've never had a cat fail, but from everything I have ever heard, 'rotten egg smell' is the symptom. Don't just remove the cat. It is actually there for a reason and is illegal to discard. You can get a high flow cat for about $100... B

Pezzy says Simon must have a bad cat. B

Some Help From Some Transmission Gurus?
Precise1 replied to Pathmaster95's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Ok, good luck... B -
I'd ignore it until you have to pull the T-bar for some reason like removing the LCA or tranny and replace them then. They obviously aren't rusing in place... B
-
Thanks for the information!! That is the best place for a gease fitting (as long as it distributes correctly) I have seen yet. Most are tucked in and impossible to access once installed. B
-
Then you have no worries other than someone like me stealing it... B
-
All I can say is that you are too damn high!!! *ehem* Sorry... Yes, that does seem odd. Usually that indicates a clutch or syncro issue, but I think Derrik may be on to something. Check for leaks and bleed the system until it is flushed. Bleed at the slave cylinder on the tranny, and then at the dampner on the passenger fire wall. Also, are you aware of the TSB pinned in the Garage section that says to 'overfill' the manual trannys with 5.1 liters of 75-w90 GL4?? Check it out. Redline MTR is a good replacement also if you can't find GL4 and GL4 only... B
-
Yep, cleaner than mine. I don't see anything that leaps out in either thread. Does it track straight and is the suspension tight? B
-
Exactly. I'm sorry to hear that, but this isn't really an expensive repair. Post in the Parts Wanted section and see of anyone has some tension rods to send you cheap. That may save a few bucks if they don't need to be repaired... B

I'm hungry now... B

Some Help From Some Transmission Gurus?
Precise1 replied to Pathmaster95's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Ok, it sounds like you have taken care of the system but it has failed regardless. Still 163k is 6 times around the world so that is not a bad life span... Yes, one of the Mods, NZpathfinder rebuilt his tranny and I think it still works... He is the most recent source. OK, this is out of my arse, but if the tranny is leaking in a specific gear, wouldn't that mean that something in that path, meaning that gear fluid path, in the valve body or associated valves is clogged?? I'm new to auto trannys so be gentle... That said, I have a specific repair manual for these trannys. If you are going to tackle the job, I'll happily send it to you on two conditions. You send it back in readable condition and you take plenty of pictures and do a write up... B
