there are a couple of threads about this around. I just got and installed the largest Surco rack for pathfinders. its 45x60 and you can buy an adapter kit for another 50 bucks to fit your stock channels. Was pretty simple to put up. For the rack, adapter kit, and 4 light mounts it came to about 400 + shipping at Summit Racing, maybe like 10 bucks more. So far I like it, its light weight, looks good, and according to Surco can hold up to 300lbs.

your rack looks great Colby. Can't wait for the write up for it in your other thread. Yeah, I'm wiring it to a stock fog switch I have, so have to deal with the dash removal I guess. Two more questions for everyone.... 1. Do I need to ground the switch? One of my diagrams has it grounded, the other doesnt. 2. Can I ground my lights to the rack? Thanks a bunch everyone. Will post pics as soon as I'm done!

thats because there aren't any. everyone has to fab up thier own

ok, so the rack is up, and the lights are attached to it. I ran the wires through the roof easily enough, and I understand how to wire it up correctly. So that being said.....How do I route the wires through the firewall? Do I need to take apart the dash to do this? Please say there is an easier way.

I was attempting to run wiring today and needed to pull up the carpeting. For the life of me I could not figure out how to unscrew the screws bolting the piece of plastic down which secures the carpet and acts as a semi non-slick surface when you climb into the truck. The screws seem to have little clip washers that pop into place that prevent the screws from actually being unscrewed. I tried popping them out, but was bending the metal underneath a bit so stopped. Is there a trick to this?

dude hes not parting it out. look in the "parts for sale" section of this site, there are a few part outs going on, someone is sure to have some of the things you need.

Its probably more cost efficient to keep this one and replace things that are bad. If you buy a new car then you have a payment of 200+ a month for 3-5 years. And things will still go wrong with it costing $$. If you buy a used car such as another pathfinder things are still going to go wrong with it and you dont know the car's history. The same things or worse could go wrong with the "new" vehicle and you could end up spending even more $$. Just my

use a sunroof cover?

Mine too has a lot of white exhaust fumes on colder days until the engine warms up. It could be just condensation in your pipes making it do that. If it is a head gasket failure the coolant will get into the oil. The glycol in anti-freeze is what makes it smell sweet. Take a whiff of the fumes and if they are sweet then you know what the problem is.

where to find coil spring retainer to keep them compressed
beastpath replied to luis's topic in The Garage
the single rod compressor that you got wont work, you need the set of 2 compressors that clamp on the outside of the coils (the Checker/Krager Auto near me did not have any for rental). Its the MacPherson compressor MacPherson Compressor -
where to find coil spring retainer to keep them compressed

yeah i bought mine from harbor freight for 6 bucks on sale. regular price was 10. definitely grease the threads(i didnt for the first spring and it was a PITA) and take your time. -
I did the AC lift too, didn't get bigger tires either cos I didn't want to loose power or gas mileage. When I get the chance I'm going to buy some rough country UCA's though, as I don't like the angles the ball-joints are at right now. Therefore I would suggest getting the Rough Country's in the first place, lol.

mine works just fine when the signal is engaged, the only thing it doesn't do is keep a consistent speed. When engaged it will slow down slightly, and then accelerate to just above the speed I've set it at. This especially happens on roads with slight gradients.

Just to update, I went with the surco and rail adapters so I didnt have to drill or change my stock rack setup. Surco also told me thier rack is rated to 300 lbs, which is more than garvin rated thier pathfinder set up. Still planning on adding extra reinforcement later, but 300 will be more than adequate for my 2nd spare and some miscelaneous gear. will be installing this thursday along with my Hella 500's. Only cost bout $400 for rack, adapters, and 4 light mounts, which meant i was able to buy a B&M tranny cooler finally That will go in thurs also.

you are right! there is an access hole. Have to turn the engine over to access each bolt.
-
I'm assuming you mean the 4 bolts that connect the flywheel to the torque converter? Its been a while since I put the rebuilt engine in mine but you do have to go through where the tranny and engine meet up. It was a real PITA and caused a lot of bad-language but can be done. IIRC you must remove the metal plates (shims?) covering the flywheel first. We used an air-wratchet to break them loose (although this destroyed one of the bolt heads and had to get new ones). THE OTHER OPTION: Twist the flywheel round until the torque converter pops out of the transmission and remove it after you have pulled the engine. Good luck with it and be patient! Remember to support the tranny while you do this. When it is finally disconnected you can shift it back a bit to get a little more clearance.

WD21 OWNERS: What drive train/model trim do you have?

looks like stop-leak will have to do until I grab one from a JY. no way im paying MSRP. maybe I can rebuild this one after I get a used one for when that one starts to leak....

So yesterday I noticed my steering gear had a small puddle of power steering fluid under it. Where the gear meets the pitman arm is nice and wet too. There is probably a drip every 20 mins or so. Filled my steering fluid reservoir up again, but obviously that's only a temporary solution. should i purchase a new/used one? Can I just replace by removing the drivers side wheel and working from there? Or are these things re-buildable? If so, is it worth it to rebuild, are there kits, and how long would it take? Pretty sure its the PB48S model

alternator issues? -
jeez louise! that is an awesome alarm system! where did you get it for $400 installed? thier website is listing MSRP $599 lol. I'm gonna have to start saving up!
-
So I've decided to put an alarm system into my '91 pathfinder. But I have no idea what the good ones are. should I find a stock one somewhere? or just get an aftermarket? what are all your experiences with different brands?
-
Hmm, tempting, but I'm not liking the $650+ price tag for that. Plus 4 light mounts is $100 plus from garvin. I also have the factory rails which I dont want to have to take off. I'm thinking I could just reinforce the Surco rack with some 1" aluminum square tubes bolted to it. The rack, plus adapters for my factory roof rack, plus 4 light mounts only comes to $390 from Summit. Plus I can take it off easily when I need to. Either way I gotta make the plunge this week sometimes so I can have everything here in time for spring break

To do the fluid change w/o dropping the pan all I used was 1. A 5 gallon bucket 2. 2 lengths of cooler line hose then i just followed 88's instructions which basically were: disconnect the transmission cooler lines, stick the bucket underneath them, plug the hose on to each of the lines(make sure to tighten down with hose clamps). Dangle hose ends into bucket. Start up the engine and see which line is shooting ATF out. Turn engine off. Reconnect line that was not shooting ATF out. Turn engine on and let old ATF shoot out until sputters. Pour in 4-6 quarts of new ATF into the filler tube and repeat. Can do this as many times as you want. I did it twice for an 8 quart flush. Then you just reconnect your cooler lines and fill the transmission properly. Took about a half hour I think, maybe 45 mins after messing around getting stuff out of cupboards etc.

the shocks should probably fit, but the shackles are only for hardbodies not pathfinders
