yeah, im thinking leaking head gasket. there was no loud bang or anything, but it would explain temperature rises, loss of coolant and the white smoke. what do you mean "low end ticking"? should i replace myself? or have a shop do it in case anything else has been damaged?

update: havent taken her in yet, been to busy. Been riding my bike instead. went out today to see if anything had changed. checked radiator fluid...was very low. added some, topped up the reservoir then started her up. same chugging noise, ticking is more constant, and.....white smoke coming out the exhaust. haven't had a chance to drain any oil, but checked the dipstick and no rad fluid on that.

have looked through my FSM and cant find where the wires from the oxygen sensor go to. i bought the new one with the wires and plug already attached so i could install it quickly. where do i unplug the old one from though?

no worries. yeah, nissannut has the PN for the non-sunroof bracket. although seeing yours, it looks like the same thing. does it look like it will fit ok when you install your sunroof?

do you have a PN for the bracket? the only PN i can find is for the bracket for non-sunroof equipped trucks.

ill try that, but i think its something worse. i drove it again this morning just down the street, and the temperature gauge rose to way above the halfway mark. may as well just take it in....

lol, was about to edit my post and say that the tapping noise is very audible now and doesn't go away any more, but is still intermittent.

sorry, yeah, when i accelerate after being stopped it sputters badly too until she gets going a bit

so I started up my truck today to drive to college and she started sputtering and sounded really rough when in park, but mostly in drive while sitting with my foot on the brake. When she gets going she sounds normal, but every time I have to stop at a red light or something the sputtering happens again. Feels almost as if she is going to stall. Same thing happened on the way back from college. haven't done codes yet From what I've read on here I was thinking: oxygen sensor? distributor cap and rotor? fuel filter(cept i just replaced it) timing belt slippage? thoughts?

check your fuses too. if the fuel filter fuse is gone you wont get gas to your engine.

no worries, all advice is really appreciated. if they have failed the parts are covered under warranty (labor isnt though...) so i was checking out the sound again today. you cant hear anything with the hood closed after shes all warmed up. However with the hood open, messing with throttle the clack/tick comes back. still a stuck lifter? btw, when i open up the oil fill cover and look inside what kind of movement should I see?

just some info that is interesting: When California has its next big earthquake they are predicting over 4 million refugees will flood into Arizona. Furthermore, the earthquake will most likely trigger the Palo Verde nuclear reactor's failsafe equipment....which will shut down Phoenix and Maricopa county's power for at least 4 days. Sounds like fun stuff huh? Phx has just started running simulations and preparing, although they have predicted this for about 5 years now. Supposedly the next huge Californian earthquake will be in the next 2 years....

gun and ammo sales went up because everyone though obama was going to reinstate the assault weapons ban and raise taxes for ammo (both of which he still may do ) 2050 is a long time away. hopefully we will have fixed some stuff by then.....hopefully yeah, anything is possible, i just find it unlikely that all of those things will happen at once. a major terrorist attack is almost certain, its just a matter of when. whether or not the american people can handle it is another question...i think we can. americans are some of the most resiliant people in the world.

yeah...thats the south, where they still havent gotten over the fact they lost "civil war 1" lol(please dont take that as offensive, I am a proud member of Sons of Confederate Veterans) i do think it is a little paranoid on a wide scale unless there is mass famine or some such, which i dont think is possible in the US at the moment (we would buy all the food and let other countries starve if it came down to it). on smaller scale, natural disasters and such are a breeding ground for criminal elements and all sorts of nasty things. new orleans is a good case study, where society basically fell apart after a few days of no food, water, and of course no aid from FEMA. theoretically society can only last without food as a cohesive body for roughly three meals. after that people revert back to thier primal instincts or some such.

A bit paranoid me thinks but... yeah, fuel would be a huge concern. if sh*t really did "hit the fan", panic consumption of fuel would increase, production and transportation of fuel would decrease. The safest thing to do would be to build a bomb-shelter/bunker underneath your house with proper ventilation, storage, supplies etc. That would be easy enough to stock for one to two adults, but if a family is utilizing this there has to be even more preparation. Babies need certain fats that are not widely available in sources that they can eat properly, so therefore certain oils must be stored to accomodate for this. For short term survival of say, a natural disaster, having 2 weeks or so of emergency supplies would be adequate. For more extreme cases, like nuclear war, the sky is the limit on what you should have. At that point everything and everything becomes more valuable to survival. One good thing is that if there were to be a nuclear war, radiation will supposedly dissapate in about 2 weeks. However, whether or not anything could survive the impending nuclear winter is another question.

yeah i tightened them down a bit and there was no change. and its only at startup i get the clacking for about 30-60 secs. Ill try a heavier weight oil and see what that does.

could lifter tick be timing issues too?

the extra 2k makes up for the difference in price then.
