I have done a few swaps using the eBay LED lights. Had good results, and they are certainly cheap. I agree with B tho, I would talk to Tex and see what he says, or worst case scenario simply get a pair of bulbs for one set of lights, IE markers, signals, etc and see how you like them.

Steering dilemma
tmoore4512 replied to PaMountianbiker's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
I think it can be done right for less money man, I see where a bunch of folks are knocking heim or johnny joints, but that is an effective and beffy solution. I did an S10 blazer with 4 3/4 heim joints and some .120 walled DOM tubing. Had around $200 in it, and its STILL running around in town to this day, and that was almost 4 years ago. You can also do a TRE setup, using the same method with junkyard adjusters welded into DOM tubing... Probably cheaper actually... -
Has anyone relocated ARB bumper after 3" BL?
tmoore4512 replied to trexterra's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
I do not have (nor could I afford) an ARB bumper but I took care of my own relocation... If you have a welder, and know how to utilize it... you are already way ahead of the pack! -
And all this time I thought you were just hitting the old sauce a little hard... WOW!!! And I REALLY thought B was just stalling!!! :lmao:
-
It fits just fine, I am not a fan of how it looks...
-
AIR!!! Mine did that when I first acquired it back in the day... an easy fix with someone in the drivers seat and a creeper... Or if you have access to a lift even better....
-
I am about to pull mine off anyway... With the X rack it just doesnt fit...
-
Now come on B you know I was messing with ya... As for time...
-
That works too!

I was referring to the size of the case, not the mounting tabs. My point was that they (the manufacturer) could put a larger alternator on a vehicle without sacrificing space, and that is proven by the maxi, pathy and quest alternators being virtually the same diameter. The mounting tabs are only a mounting obstacle that is easily overcome as shown in the how to section in reference to the Quest alternator... Now I realize that it probably costs more to put a larger output alternator on a vehicle, so that would be a reason for the greedy folks that make the cars...haha... sorry for the rant... I swapped in a SOHC maxima alternator, like the one on the bottom. As for the belt rib deal... yes it will work... I have done it in a pinch, but not for an extended period of time...
-
From the pictures and what I recall it appears to be the same housing. I never quite understood why they would put different sized units in different vehicles... Especially since it is chepaer to buy a larger amperage alternator anyway...

Awesome...

Yep with my BL it just sort of falls onto the frame rails.

That was more of an idea for me, haha... Just have entirely too much time on my hands at the moment. When I lived in Washington it was sort of a requirement to have a 4WD just to get to some of the regular places.... How I miss that... TN is more red neck that is for sure, but people here would rather get drunk and then go riding, rather than ride and then drink. Not my cup of tea.

When I did mine I just had to swap the pulley. It lined up fine. The power increase was intense, I did not think I would notice it, but I certainly did. Especially since whenever my E fan would kick on before the swap I would see the headlights dim, almost like having a huge stereo system. With the new alternator in place I did not experience the dimming as bad... it still dimmed slightly but nowhere near the way it did before. Of course plans change all the time, but initially I had intended on either running a dual alternator setup (one in place of the AC compressor, if it ever failed.) Or putting a compressor in its place that would be able to fill tires, air tanks etc. I have seen dual alternator setups before on big rail rides, seemed kind of like over kill to me, but after seeing a fellah use a welder on the trail... I was sold. Of course the AC still works, and the Maxima alternator has been more than enough... we will see what happens when I add more lights...

The fan you have in your OP seems like a nice piece, and the 31165 fan controller is awesome. (Utilized it on my XJ.) The only issue I have is the site DOES NOT list the CFM of the fans... This concerns me because in my experience with the WD21 and cooling I have played around quite a bit with various E fans and found them to be a bit underpowered to keep the motor cool and AC functioning effectively... The Taurus 3.8 E fan runs around 4800 CFM, which is a crazy amount of air. Mine does more than enough to keep my motor cool, and the AC blows ice cold even while sitting still... (This in 100+ weather in TN.) I say do what you want, because it is your truck after all. But it would be a bad day to discover that it was unable to cool after buying and installing it.

I have done this before myself on a few vehicles with rack and pinion steering. Works just fine for what its intended to do. Every dirt track guy that is sporting a 2.3 liter mustang does this as well, the whole point is to keep oil in the rack, thus keeping it alive.

Why are there no harbodys on this forum?
tmoore4512 replied to DantheMayun's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Surprisingly there are a bunch of HB trucks running around where I live. Some beat all to hell, others in immaculate shape. 2WD and 4WD, rarely for sale but if they are its at a pretty steep asking price... -
Idler pulley/ AC belt tensioner

X3 on the bearing... -
Sorry for the delay in replying... Hopefully this will help some, as in MOST cases the fan and shroud are sold as one unit... This is really the best way to explain it, to show you the difference rather then try to describe... Don't be mistaken, both are dual speed (pulling) fans. The 3.8 fan simply moves ALOT more air. Here is a 3.0 fan and shroud, you do not want this unit... And here is the 3.8 fan... The one you want!

Wow, just stumbled accross this thread and am impressed with how your wheels turned out!! Great job!!

I could not agree more with the cost aspect. In repairing the steering, and replacing utterly destroyed parts I could have built my 44 with chromolies!! As of right now, the upgrades I have in the front end are great for light off the trail stuff, but anything more advanced I would be afraid to venture too far from a trailer... Ultimately if you are just utilizing the vehicle as a road warrior, the PML will work.

Any news yet?
