i normally have my tools, 3lb sledge, engine oil, gear oil, brake fluid; recovery eq. which includes a couple of D clevises and kinetic rope and then the almost worthless hand winch and chain. i do have small shovel but last time it didn't get me very far. :sniff: the mud was bad and i only finally dug it out some more when my buddy showed up with a regular sized one. so, if you get a roof rack attach a full size shovel to it. warn even makes little brackets. those are the basics when i go to an OHV park. when in wilderness i have my camping gear in my backpack. that's everything.. stove, water filter, tent, pad, bag.. food and clothing for at least 20-30 degrees below average for the time of the year. i always have a tiny, tiny first aid kit too. maps and compass. and the number one butt saver over the years has been a bike.. that's right, bicycle. it beats walking. galoshes.

... much more then in 2. that's where i'd start. all of the above + bjs and any other possibly loose stuff. then move on to disassembly if you haven't found an issue. CVs should be inspected by viewing as well as tuggin in every direction possible. if loose then shot. probably would check the new hubs next.. working towards the t-case.. could be the diff also.. at least check fluids in both.

j/y in my area want starting at $20ea. the flares should fit but keep in mind that there are at least 3 different designs if you guys are doing a partial swap. no mudflaps, soft mudflaps, and hard mud flaps.. the are all a tad different and don't look good mixed.

yeah, nissan keeps on insisting that they went to OBDII in 94 and they did in some vehicles but pathys changed in 96. there could be an odd one here and there though. if it started in ohio i almost guarantee you that's not the original piping.. salt eats the heck out of exhausts here in midwest.

10-15x is either some freaking bad air or the mc.. the air doesn't just worsen all of a sudden.. maybe only if it got really, really hot all of a sudden but that's not the case here.. brrr..

the booster is that round thing on the firewall right in front of the driver.. it's also the thing that the MC hooks onto. sometimes you'll have to have the hood up and your ear close by to hear the sound.. other person would have to press the pedal.. does the pedal work better if you pump it a few times? and have you been losing fluid at all?

changing MC is not really that time consuming not is it really that involved. no matter the ease, working in -15f is a B. i don't think i have had to do anything in that kind of cold yet. knock, knock.. btw. you should (may?) hear some gurgling sounds coming from the vac booster if the mc is shot..

yes, there are other ways but with helper it's the easiest and the fastest.

pull one of the others out and that's your size.. the rattleing could be all kinds of things.. check your heat shields first.
