Jackson Autosport's R50 Missing Link
laxman0324 replied to tekazgtr1984's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Ordered mine to give my Pathfinder a little treat since it has been a while...will post when I get it... -
I bought the truck with Revos on stock wheels and replaced the BFG Rugged Trails that came with my summer wheels with the Revo 2. My intention is to replace the Revos on the stock wheels (if they ever wear out) with a more aggressive tire and make them winter/off road tires and keep my spotless Xterra S/C wheels on more of a street tire. I can't help if I gave into temptation and made Revo 2's my street tire.

As an owner of both the Revos (winter wheels 255/70R16) and the Revo 2 (summer wheels 255/70R17) I would have to say I love both of them. They are both wearing evenly like little rolls of steel rather than rubber. They both offer great traction in rain, more traction in dry weather than a lifted truck can handle, respectable traction in the slippery stuff, etc. I honestly don't notice much a difference between the two but I would say that the tread on the original Revos has a more aggressive tread design, but I don't know if the looks translate into actual performance here. Bottom line, I have had great experiences with both, but it sounds like some people have had bad experiences with the original (which I was NOT aware of with years of reading/researching about tires until this thread) so it might be a good idea just to drop the extra dough on the Revo 2's. Or go with Michelin LTX A/T 2's like I wish I could afford for the winter wheels at some point.

I am mostly looking for mpg improvements, and everything I read about them makes them sound like a worthwhile improvement for that...

20% is factory SUV tint. I fought for a deal so I have the in house brand for the local tinting company but I still have a lifetime warranty. Seems to be really good quality so far...

Get some pics up! We need more R51 members here!

Dean, thank you very much for your insight...I still want to know, did you feel the power benefits and see any fuel consumption benefits? Most of your issues were related to your fantastic off roading, which I have never done and will never do to your amazing degree (at least with this pathfinder while I don't have funds to fix issues that come up). Based on this, I think I still want to give this mod a try... My biggest question now is: Do I go with: 1 - 2 small fans having them come on at different temps or A/C coming on, NO shroud. 2 - The black magic fan which has a shroud to cover most of the radiator. 3 - Try to find a fan to fit the existing shroud for the mechanical fan. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You should let Rockford know about this in case they were cutting back or stopping production, and so they can market them for the R50...

Again, I apologize for myself being retarded. I knew I was talking about 265 width tires on 16" rims but I didn't let anyone else know. Ok, so 265/70R16 is about 30.6" and 265/75R16 is about 31.6" tall. I have read about members not needing to trim with 70 series tires but needing to trim with 75 series tires. I really do NOT want to trim so I am looking at slightly smaller tires. Hope this clears everything up.

I haven't had much sleep. 70 is approximately 31" and 75 is approximately 32". You can figure out what I meant now.

I freely admit boosting gives insane power but I would rather have a high revving mad acting all motor engine...just personal preference...btw i have determined i WILL design and build individual throttle bodies for something at some point, I am in love with them...
-
I think in terms of trimming and gas mileage it will be...who knows i change my mind all the time on it...
-
The 4.0 is not a high revving engine, so I would imagine that reason keeps them from being a suitable car engine...Also I read in the same article as before that the main reason for stroking the 3.5 to a 4.0 was to gain torque. The VQ35 easily makes high horsepower numbers but the torque is still pretty low (look at 350Z and Altima and Maxima with it)
-
IDK anything really about the differences in mounting between the VG and the VQ. I would imagine if the VQ40 is just a stroked VQ35 it should have all of the same mounting points, for the transmission as well? Maybe just need to put some brackets from the VQ35 onto the VQ40? And I am not a big fan of supercharging, or turbocharging for that matter, I like the really peaky all motor engines that are pretty much lifeless down low but when you get into the powerband become these screaming monsters...
-
Yea they are the only manufacturer to have a mud tire in the size 265/70R16. I don't really want to step up to the trimming involved in the 265/65R16 tires. Discount Tire Direct has them on their website...
-
To be honest I am kind of surprised no VG33 owner has tried to put a VQ35 in. I think if my motor ever goes I might try a VQ40 with a lot of research...Either that or build up the VQ35 with 350Z heads, intake manifold, JWT cams, throttle body, etc...

What about Cooper Tires? Like the ST?
-
I will be finding out this summer if it actually sounds that good or not since my exhaust is rusting out and I am going to do my own straight pipe until I get sick of it...
-
I thought I read somewhere that the VQ40 was just an enlarged VQ35? Has anyone looked at the block to see if the mounting points and what not are the same? Also, for the turbo idea, what about doing a turbo back approach? I know the plumbing would be custom but wouldn't that be a much simpler approach to run custom plumbing than to try and squeeze one or two turbos in the engine bay? And another idea, does the VQ35 bolt to the subframe in the same locations as the VG33? If so you could just swap a VQ35 in and theres at least 240hp.

I am very interested in getting the Wrangler Duratracs on my winter rims, they look very aggressive but are well mannered for their looks...
-
Back to the cutout...I think they are a cool toy but unless you have the money for that kind of toy I wouldn't do it...I know a member is using the Aero Turbine muffler and really likes it, but idk about the drone at 100+
-
Don't tell Ty that he gets a hard on any time he sees Toyos...j/k Ty. I have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's on my Pathfinder and I love them...BFG A/T's always perform and look great.
