I am a hard core salvage yard rat! I got a significant edge knowing what parts are what and what they cost new! Plus, there are things even I cant justify spending outrageous money on because they are too much $$$ even at my price!

Yep it is Hitachi who makes and rebuilds the starters for Nissan. In fact they do them right here in the US.

The starter puked so I had to replace it. When I got it out I looked at the manufacturing date stamped on the nissan label, the non-rebuilt part number, and the old school nissan stamp in the casing. The date on the starter said 03/95. The truck was manufactured in 05/95. Original starter. Not bad for 207,000 miles and 16.5 years

Yeah, keep them in case you come across a nice one at a salvage yard. (been looking 5 years now LOL)

Ohhh..... Id shy away from rebuilt ones if it was me, I have seen too many people back in a year with one failing and having to replace one all over again, even if it does have a warranty. Then 3 months later another one fails and so on and so on. Gets to be a pain pulling the intake off all the time to replace one if its on the left side of the motor.....and the warranty doesnt cover labor, just the part. They are cheap for a reason IMHO. One the other hand new are outrageous, so I understand it is a rock and a hardplace! BTW, if you havent thought of it, get a few cans of throttle body cleaner and clean the intake plenum and the tubes that run underneath it....

Has anyone tried putting an air/oil seperator on their pathy? I was thinking with these high mileage vehicles it would reduce oil from the blowby that some suffer from.....

I went through the wiring diagram and components looking for something in common..... Are there any stray wires from the radio harness, or has it had an amp bypass done? (IE is it the stock radio still?) the radio harness goes up and ties onto the cigarette lighter and then that harness goes to the AC control switch. Think of the subharnesses comig off the main harness under the dashboard as a drop down tree: AC switch->cigarette lighter->Radio&radio amp. The ground and the constant power are coming down off the main harness. So something is grounding out intermittantly off this drop down.

Many auto parts chain stores will rent these type tools to you for a few $$. the one near me will fully refund the fee if you return it the same day.

This made me give a baffled blank stare for a few seconds followed by me reaching for my copy of the FSM....... I would suspect, as pointed out above that someone in the vehicles past got creative with the power supply. Out of curiosity, what are you plugging into the cig lighter? BTW where in DFW are you?

Dont get me started! Have you checked the timing? It being off can cause the vehicle to stutter and generally run like crap.

Saw this 93 model on autotrader in Idaho. It has low miles and does indeed look super-super clean, but this dealership wants $11K for it!!!! I am thinking the same. I would check the fluid in the transfer case and the front differential. If it hasnt been done before you are probably getting close to needing to change the fluids in the transfer case and the front and rear differentials anyways.

For 4WD WD 21 and D21 unhook the draglink on the passenger side, unbolt the starter, rotate the starter 90 degrees to the right and pull it forward and down, it comes right out easy.....

Lost power and went dead I am thinking: Distributor, Mass Air Flow, Ignition Coil, Fuel Pump. Seems you have partially ruled out fuel pump, based on your other descriptions I would zone in on the distributor being bad.

timing usually jumps from the belt being old/loose. I just cant see that being the problem. Tell me, how many degrees + or - did you have to adjust the timing to get it to run? I am sort of wondering if your VTC solenoids/motors got fried and its not adjusting the timing and/or they are stuck, thus you had to move the distributor to get it to run.

Im with Adamzan on this one! I use a 6 and a 4 and its the perfect length.
