I've got the LSD in the back on a 4x4 auto so that gives me a 4.625:1 on the 265-75-R-15 buuuuuut that is full stock other than the _slightly_ larger tires for the gas engine..... the math would dictate that he's running about 2.80:1 final or so ....... I wonder how that gets out of its own way when I find that the 4.625 to be a bit slow off of the line.

My VG30E with 265-75r15 and whatever happens to be in the transfer cases / transmission turns over about 2200 rpm at 62mph..... How did you get that thing to run at 1550?? sent from under Ernest the Pathfinder

I have to agree with the Precise1. It has been my experience that a change in oil type alone is enough to offer a noticeable ease in first startup when going from a heavier to a lighter oil and 10x easier when it hits stupid cold temperatures with synthetic oils. I used a dino 5w40 and 5w50 sythetic in my Jetta. I didn't notice any change in fuel consumption but the car turns over in 1/3rd the time at -40 degrees with audibly less work by the starter. I'll take the synthetic oil thanks.

The item causing the huge lack of compression / vacuum cleaner noise was an injector seal for the #2 piston that I bumped out of the way during reassembly in my rush to get the work done before the end of the day so I could drive home. I ended the day by taking my bike to the local bar and waited for my fiancee to swing by and pick me up. This morning I found the seal with a flashlight and looking down the space for the plug boot, I could see something small and clean that looked very out of place next to the plug. Obviously I had to pull the whole intake off again to get the fuel rail off and get the seal back on, job done and two lessons learned.

Alkorahil I would like to order the Special Edition Eddie Bauer Signature Series inverted intake please, that's the one where all the fricking parts are on the top and in the front... Thanks for the heads-up on that gasket and thanks to Nefarious for the one on the electrical connection! ! Hey B, I looked at the vac diagrams in the FSM after I finished putting everything back together to confirm that everything was in the right place, I also took pictures of areas that were busy ( around the EGR ) to be able to get everything back on in the right location, orientation and path. Everything that is on there now looks correct but I know I missed some esentail thing during reassembly because of the inability of the truck to keep running. I drove it to work, took it apart and I messed up the rebuild...Can you think of a likely area that a newbie might overlook while installing new fuel hoses onto the fuel rail, while doing the fuel pressure regulator or IACV?? A small detail like a hook / hold-down / or a missed clamp? Anyone else know of an easy-to-miss thing that wouldn't jump out as a significant problem?

I thought that I would use my nice day and peel the intake off and take care of the IACV and fuel pressure regulator aaaaannnddd now the truck won't stay running. All of the new vac hoses are attached and the big secondary air tubes to the brake booster are attached. The pcv is new, attached and has been working for the last four months and I can hear something that is leaking but what am I missing? sent from under Ernest the Pathfinder

If I can find my 4 liter jug of oil I'll be changing it this weekend for 5w30 Castrol synthetic, even though I ran 10w30 standard oil all winter in Montreal... not that the truck enjoyed a -30 degree celsius startup with that oil, but it's still running top notch.

That's a lot of glass, steel and plastic. I don't really know but I would hazard an estimate of just about 3/8ths of the total weight of 1770kg. Knowing that the drivetrain, suspension and frame are all made of aluminum and steel...... but I'm just throwing that out there. Anyone ever pull a body off?? sent from under Ernest the Pathfinder

I'm just not getting how we are supposed to read it on the upper braided part if the high and low mark is 3/4" below that!! I would have to guess that somebody stuffed the dipstick tube into the motor until it stopped instead of where it's supposed to be. So I just pull, wipe, insert up to the plastic base and roll with that. 3.5 liters is still a weird number for a 3.0 V6 but maybe that's just me... I expect a V6 to have closer to 4.4 litres of oil with a new filter. The Subaru took that much and it's a 4 cyl... of couse the Subaru also blew an oil seal and left me stranded. sent from under Ernest the Pathfinder

I took another run at tracking down the missing left high beam problem and spent the morning on that to no avail. Then I decided that I would rather have functional washers so I replaced those with new ones and spent the last two hours looking throgh my boxes for the FSM Wiring diagram.... now I'm having a coffee because I give up.
