  1. Thanks kingman, I didn't know a vacuum leak would make the engine idle higher, I know it would make it erratic.
  2. Ah another d21 owner! Hardbody unit! Anyways to answer your question, I'd grab a buddy have him jump in the driver seat and steer from left to right while your under the front taking a look at the steering components, see what moves and what doesn't, this should easily point out the issue, my guess would be a ball joint or where the pitman arm attaches to the steering rod (sorry for lack of better terminology) I wouldn't do this test when the truck is on stands, do it under load the issue might disappear when the front suspension drops (if you know what I mean, if you ever take a look when it's on stands both wheels point inwards)
  3. Do note that the 4wd hardbody's come stock with 2" body lift... Might have clearance issues?
  4. Someone might have tuned the idle up high to hide a vacuum leak? I know this is the case with my hardbody with the z24 carborated... Not sure if you can or how you could tune a vg30?
  5. As an electrician I am excited to see how these look broken apart, just saying you might want to take some photos I would agree, open circuit, check the brushes for dirt and grim then test the leads (if you got a voltmeter) my best guess is it shorted out which burnt a wire open
  6. I agree, 3 inches of lift will make cvs act funny. It wouldn't hurt to buy another cv shaft, could be a faulty part? Then if it doesn't work, you have a spare for the road.
  7. Thanks for the information guys! I think as it sits I'm going to bandaid it up, I'm moving to a colder climate for the winter, and as a heavy snowboarder I spend 2-3 days on a mountain a week so maybe gorilla snot or thickening agent isn't the best idea, just use thicker fluid instead of ATF. Anyways when I inspect the pathfinders steering gear I might replace the seals then just to give it new life one less thing to worry about going wrong. But we won't know until we pull it off eh.
  8. Hmm yes the unibody r50's lol my bad. I would go with what devonianwalk says, extreme angles.
  9. Could be your lower compression arm? Mine use to clunk when I braked, replaced bushings no issues since, and yes I did brake a cv shaft before hand
  10. Alright thanks, ill look for that. Yeah, I'm not too concerned about it, like I said it steers fine just looks nasty pathfinders is nice and clean, had no steering issues at all so that will be the ideal option. Why not, hoping to scrap the pathy before the end of the month taking everything I can, doesn't look pretty covered in mud sitting in the driveway with a tarp covering half of it
  11. Check the plate in the engine bay on the passenger side. Should say something like HG 46 or HG 43... I know my 87 d21 says CA 43 (anyone know what ca means?) and my 95 wd21 xe is HG 46
  12. I like that idea, it looks like everything should bolt up the same it's just got the bigger pitman arm, that could work out nicely, cheaper than customizing something else to fit. Didn't think of that, would help it leak less, next time it gets low ill fill it up with that stuff. Prestone? Is it a type of ATF? Just a bit confused on what to look for
  13. It just kind of sweats ATF I did a quick search on rockauto to see if they were the same part number for that whole unit and they are different, didn't say what's different but atlease I know they are now. I think I'm going to investigate what people have done for their sas. Did a quick search and something about a bronco steering box? Maybe someone who has done it could chime in? Anyways I got myself some threads to read through. Thanks precise1!
  14. To add to my previous comment, load rating is 2270lbs and running a 15" rim
  15. So been thinking about my power steering leak. Just looks like it's on it's last leg but perfectly smooth if you keep fluid in it. I know the saying don't fix it if it ain't broken, I just want to be prepared for it. Just have a few questions and routes I can take. First thing is can I swap my 95 wd21 power steering unit to my 87 d21? Is that something that would be bolt on? On first glance they look the same but could be different, could always find out the part numbers and compare. Also how are these to swap out? Has anyone done it? I am doing a sas in the spring summer ish, and I have heard people converting there steering system to the 2wd version, can someone explain to me the advantage to this? And or do you think this would be a better route with the solid axle? Maybe I don't even have too, I know it helps with lifted ifs. Anyways just a thought. I have been talking about going for hydrolic steering, would be nice, but at first ill only be running 33's at the largest just seems unnecessary. And I know steering is one of those things you want to get right lol if anything else breaks down atlease you can steer out anyways just debating on what to do, thinking what route you guys would take? thanks for your inputs and advice in advance!
  16. 35 on road and 25-30 off road depending on what, haven't experimented lower yet. Running 31 x 10.5
  17. YES!! Someone has too much time on there hands
  18. Welcome! To answer your question at the bottom of the main page you'll find a section called 'member rides', probably best place for it. Curious to see what you have done? But looks like your going to make a thread about it, looking forward to seeing it!
  19. Same issue in my old wd21, big puddle lights came on a minute later, searched it right away on my fancy mans iphone found it to be an alternator issue looked under the hood it was mud brown everywhere. cleaned the compartment out in the morning, no issues since. could also be a grounding issue in the system (most likely something faulty in the alternator) measure the output voltage on the alternator to make sure that's the issue before, if you don't known a meter a shop can do it for 20$ sometimes free if you sweet talk em. It's a little bit scary when all those lights go off at you, at the moment I also had my check engine, window washer, and tire carrier lights on my dash was lit up more than a Christmas tree
  20. The price difference on the filters were surprising, Fram is usually 6-8$ and the Mobil 1 was 14$ at Canadian Tire What would you recommend for air filter?
  21. They have 89' in there, could be close I'm pretty sure it was 86.5-89 they ran the same model if I'm not mistaken, just looking for something to reference to when I do an engine swap. You strike again ahardb0dy, thanks man! (Good thing you didn't leave eh? )
  22. Service manuals for hardbody? Hanes only goes so far.. And to note they only have owners manual for pathfinder 95 and up (weird they start at 95?) and no hardbody manuals
  23. Honestly got it by accident, just grabbed it and went, got home and realized it was 5w20 but I don't seem the harm? That's why I never returned it.
  24. ^thats what I used 2' 1/2" breaker bar but I didn't have to push it with my feet then again, I blasted them with penetrant (orange can from princess auto) the night before, 2-3 hours before, and right before I did it. Only one rusted in but with some love with a rubber mallet it came out. I highly recommend (if you have 10$ and want the job to go by 3 times quicker) is a RATCHETING 15/16th wrench!! I was only able to turn it 1/6th of a turn every time... Pita
