No problem!! It took me a lot of time to find someone who has done it in a nissan, but he actually found me! I started a thread asking questions on my 95 path, starting the research stage and he started giving me pointers and reality checks lol But now pathy is off the road (hit and run while it was parked) found the pickup and jumped on it. I haven't done too much research on any other diesel motors but you can't beat cummins power! Sorry guys Imma nissan guy first then dodge diesel power! My budget is going to be close to 10 - 12 grand, but that includes front 44 Dana (or equvilant) Dana 60 rear 6-8 inch lift, small body, flat deck, donar truck (with 4bt, most likely delivery van) turbo, etc etc, huge list!! Basically new truck minus cab and frame lol it's not a cheap swap! Warning about the nissan trans and tcase, even though nissans are built tough, with a turbo your almost doubling the torque, consider upgrading! Plus you'll need a new bell housing and such, I'm sure you know this. Good luck!
-
What turbo diesel are you going for? I plan on doing a 4bt swap in my 87 hardbody (since the pathy is parts now ) I know an excellent thread/site for doing 4bt swaps, started talking to a guy who had done it to his 87 hardbody too (great for me! and that thread is very detailed) but the pathfinders aren't too different from the pickups so I'm sure it will help you out tons!! Here is the forum: http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/forum.php And the thread: http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?21670-1987-Nissan-Hardbody-4bt-swap&highlight=Nissan+hardbody

Body lift I assume, it seems like it was always ment to be, you have 2 joints and eventually they will open, has anyone tried to weld a straight piece in? Eliminating joints?
-
Regeared, 4.27? If I recall correctlyBut still, that's a lot of weight! I'm worried about throwing my 31 mud terrains on
-
Yeah i only got a tiny 4banger in my 87 with standard, gears... No idea, defiantly a difference from my 95 pathfinder, but then again I'm going on sound, pathfinder no tac speedo works, hardbody no speedo tac works lol Lucky, I got clocked doing 90km threw a 50, warning, then next time, ticket, ticket, ticket, ticket, now I drive like a gramma lol I learned my lesson
-
Did you have the 4 or v6? Hell I couldn't imagine running any bigger than 31! Although I have seen someone with the 4banger running 37's and Dana 44 front and rear, don't know how that thing moved lol but I can't wait to upgrade... 4bt *droool* A 100?! Mph of course, lol when the pickup gets going it gets going hahah just give it sometime... Or a hill lol
-
Lol yes this has happened to me too, I just say its a tough sounding 4banger, aka a small person with a loud voice hahah From the look of it, it's straight piped with a small off set, into the muffler then a 5" straight tail piece, ends 2' ish from the rear axle, looks a bit bigger than 2" probably the same size as yours ahardb0dy. Sounds mean, but has no guts lol loudest and last off the line
-
Lol well my hardbody got the gwb bumped up (something like that) so it doesn't need to be air cared! But the pathfinder I also had a small exhaust leak up front, I had poor mileage before and still had poor mileage afterwards, you will but I'm not sure by how much it was the same time I did my standard swap
-
My hardbody had the cat cut off, just the muffler left, and that sounds loud and a whole lot worse than the pathfinder with the cut back, neighbours loooove it
-
Yup, I have, well didn't have a choice it fell off lol, you will but you will loose power, I welded a small down pipe to it to direct the exhaust below the rear axle

You shouldn't be running into issues like that, but from school I remember either you aren't using the right bulbs (but that shouldn't be an issue) or you have to tighten the ballast (you need a good ground but it shouldn't kill your ballast) you have a strange issue could be poorly made. But if your interested in upgrading... I know where I live it's against fire code to have high density lighting in your house (unless its approved) but I'd recommend getting those, high lighting output, hp sodium for warm or metal hylid (however you spell it) for cool (anyone correct me if I'm wrong I might have got them switched) but in short they are grow lights lol so your best bet is to find them at hydro shop or electrical whole salers (check and make sure it's legal for you to put in!) and these are a bit pricy, depending on what you want 2 or 4. But if your looking for a cheaper route, look into compact flures. These are cheaper and you can get them in high w (I have 2 100w as job site lighting) you can get them in different colours too warm or cool or even pinkish lol Lastly you could always, upgrade, cheap usually means cheap lol just buy better fixtures? Personally I use my friends shop and he has metal hylid. But then again, it's a 60' x 200' barn. But when I find my own place, ill use cfl's.

I agree, transmission cooler is a very good idea for extending the life of your auto (if you dont have one) I just swapped mine for a manual instead of add the cooler, which is a hung step but my auto was toast. And yes it is normal on a hot day for your cars heat to rise, but should drop after a bit of time, happened to me on the first day is was hot up here this year in bc but check you coolent fluid, if its still bright, looks clean, I wouldn't worry about changing the fluid, but if you owned the truck for a couple years and never done it? It's your call
-
I never really had these issues but ill try my best, with the ac, it seems weird that it only does it when it's on, you might have something wrong with the unit itself? Something loose inside, never had that issue myself The fuel gauge might be an issue with the sensor, I don't quite know where or how but it seems like its just junked up. I assume you have an auto, it sounds like the clutch plates (correct me if I'm wrong I don't know the correct term) but it might be rubbing and or not enough ATF, maybe change it? Had a conditioning agent? Your over heating issue, could just be an air bubble, if it becomes more of an issue I'm sure you know throw your heat on and rev the engine so cycle everything threw, when's the last time you did a coolent flush? Oil change too? That's all I can really think of, hopefully nothing too major, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I personally never had these issues in my 95

Need help replacing the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
cvdloc replied to shadowork's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Question guys, in my 87 pickup my speedo doesn't work at all (not bouncing around like you said) do you think it's the vss? Or something else, I noticed that a wire was out of a plastic disconnect next to my tranny, so I cut it out and spliced the wires together, didn't work, is that plastic piece the key? I still have it so I can easily connect it back. I have the day off so I'm going to do some research and work on the truck a bit, I have a small list of stuff to do and the speedo is one of them! -
Same issue in my 95, it was a leak. Never got around to fixing it before it got wreaked, but my plan was too cut out the floor, weld all the way around the pipe, and then add a thicker piece of sheet metal over it. Just an idea for anyone with the same issue. If your asking why weld the pipe? Because I was going to do an engine swap and plus its a perminate solution, it won't fail again lol muffler paste and carbon fibre tape can only do so much!!

Have you ever thought about converting it to manual? It seems like you are keen on rebuilding the auto but this might be a good time to swap! Anyways that's just my input I ended up busting 2 autos in my 95 path before I did the swap to standard. -

I feel your pain! Transmissions are the worst! -
I think the saying 'there is more than one way to skin a cat' can be used here lol

They are in such a bad spot too! Blocked in by the starter and alternator you can't really get at it, I tucked myself inside the wheel well. And really I maybe moved it a quarter turn (at the most) and it came off by hand after.

http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag52/cvdloc/image_zps3ff367b8.jpg So I decided to do my oil and oil filter today but, even with 2 different oil wrenches I couldn't get it off for the life of me, so I thought to myself, what can I do... Wafer screws! Upload your custom tools for the job! Even though mine isn't extreme, It worked in the first minute of adding the screws!

No problem man, update us! I'm trying not to let mine bug me since that motor is going in about 4 months (replacing it with a 4bt cummins <3 lol) so I'm not bothering

I see that you have said you don't have a vacuum leak that you can't find, it seams like your issue points to that? With my hardbody 87 during warm up it fluctuates between 1200 - 1500 but is steady at running temp, could you do a video of the sound? Even when you drove around it l, it sounded fine, but during start up it does? Sounds to me, and I few other people I have asked, like a vacuum leak
-
Vacuum leak? How is it up at running temp?
