  1. perfect time to fab up a snorkel ! where did you get the wheel spacers? I'm always impressed by what you can fix on the front yard with hand tools. good on you for doing it yourself.
  2. So yea! I'm getting married September 7th. Then heading on a 4week long road trip to the Canadian Maritimes. The wife, dog and I will be traveling through Northern Ontario, Quebec, NewBrunswick and maybe NovaScotia. We thought that meeting up with NPORA members along the way would be cool. It is a road trip and we might as well have interesting stops along the way. You guys have helped me out lots and It would be nice to put a face to some of the comments/questions and responses. And if things go sideways, I might be able to call in some help when the truck dies on the side of the HWY. We'll be traveling mostly on Hwy 1. stopping in Montreal for a couple of days, Then on to see my brother in Quebec city to do some camping north of there. Then on to the maritimes. We will be hitting up Mt.Carleton provincial park in NB for sure as well as some spots along the coast. Mostly we're about bush camping with few restrictions/neighbours and I hate paying for camping. If anyone has a neat place to go see or camp out at along the way send me a line or directions. this is a mostly fly by the seat of the pants planned trip. We'll have the laptop along but with sporadic interweb access. I'll try and document our trip for a photo journal. thanks again this last year of Pathy ownership has been great, and this forum has been most helpful. the only way I know how to pay it forward is to share what I've learned with others. CRAP that sounds sappy. Pm me if you'd like to meet up on our Easterly trip. Bushnut AKA: Jon
  3. I grew up on the LESS IS MORE philosophy. When I was a Kid we did a Trans-Canada trip coast to coast in a VW Fox, 2 adults, 1 teenager, 1 Black Lab. We spent 4 weeks living out of the trunk, by the end of the trip we could have the tent up, a fire lit and coffee going in about 20min. Road tripping in a Pathy is gonna be down right luxury. Lets face it most of us spend 70% of our driving time on tarmac, which means food/water/gas is not that far away. If you are planning a trip to the Back of Behind the known universe than follow the 6P principle.. PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCE. Who needs to spend $1200 or more on a RTT? I know they look cool but thats a lot of gas. I'm happy with my $150 ground tent and tarp set up. Check out 4xfourm.com that guy has some great info on Overlanding African style and hours of great video.
  4. all ready posted in my members rides thread, but rear DIY shelf /storage. EDC, truck stuff stays under the shelf, tools, lawn chairs, table, tarps, rubber boots, fishing kit, tarp poles, metal jerry can, fire extinguisher, all that stuff rides under the shelf. up top goes camping gear separated into 4 bins..shelter, kitchen, dry food, comfort. Cooler goes behind passenger seat, dog goes behind drivers seat, 25L water container is beside cooler, as well coleman white gas stove. I've also got a shelf that hangs by hooks and para-cord off the roof rack rails that allows me extra table space while I'm parked. Need to photograph that soon. Other than the tent, my camp set up looks just like my signature pick. set up will vary according to campsite. what I'd really like to add is an extended range fuel tank in place of the under truck spare.
  5. After this weekend...huge amounts of confidence. Clearing a section of trail that a Frontier Pro x4 turned around at and had only been driven on by quads and a couple of Razors. It was only maybe 75 feet but looked pretty gnarly, in 4lo drive I just idled through it. like butter. I scouted it out, picked my line and just went for it. after I got through it wasn't as bad as I had thought. I love my pathy.
  6. Ya, I saw that. That's what gave me the idea to see if there were any others available.
  7. longer shocks allow the axle to "droop" further but beware the danger of stuffing the Tyre (uk spelling) up into the tyre well. Also beware the length of the rear brake line as it may be to short for the extra "droop".
  8. fixed the broken tail pipe today. sleeved /muffler cement and 2 clamps. now it doesn't sound like a fart in a can!
  9. well I just broke that very same piece. The "Chrome ring" would not turn, in either direction. ended up snapping the plastic piece that I would call the mount. note...not the electric antenna just the basic one. I've been thinking about mounting it up inside the fender and filling in the hole. I suppose that would ruin my reception? but it would look clean. Any Ideas?
  10. replaced the cancerous passenger fender with a used one that I painted (black) my self. I did however break the antenna mount.
  11. haynes manual sais... strut-to-steering knuckle bolts 111-122 in-lbs strut upper mounting nuts 29-40 in-lbs strut piston rod nut (1998 and later) 43-58 in-lbs those are all the fasteners required to install a strut (not sure what you are describing as "strut to spindles" anyway good luck, have fun and check everything twice!
  12. Are there Nissan Factory skids available for the R50? were they available as an option? if so they may be found in a junk yard! anybody know? If not looks like it'll be custom fab or ordering from 4x4 designs.
  13. did a 3M headlight restore kit. looks good, was super easy. I'll find out tonight if it makes a difference.
  14. Anybody have a good way to adjust the head lights on an R50. To reach the driver's side adjuster it looks like I'll have to remove the air filter box. can't get my hand in there. and what size are the screws? or is it philips? the hayne's book is less than helpful. both low lights seem to point at the sky.
  15. hammer the rotor off and drill out the broken bolts.
  16. there is a thread on this in the R50 section. and LSD would be rear and you'll have an open front diff.
  17. if it's leaking coolant....stop the leak first....or be prepared to keep filling it up often until you get to your friends place. then deal with it..remember an overheated engine is a very grumpy engine. at the very least plug the hole with duct tape and bubble gum if you have to but don't let that engine overheat.
  18. after getting 500km on one tank I just filled up at $1.18/L
  19. so did your '04 come with 15" rims? if that's the case, that means the R50 comes with either 15,16 or 17 inch rims? I'm very confused now. I've read of people grinding the front brake calliper to make a 15" rim fit on an R50. Why NISSAN WHY?
  20. X2 with what everybody else has said. are you running wheel spacers? if not what are those wheels and lets have a photo of the clearance at the strut spring perch.
  21. cars stop running for 3 specific reasons...1. No Fuel. 2. No Air. or 3. No Spark. My suggestion would be to check Fuel or Spark related systems.
  22. I just did Ironman springs with KYB and NX4 spacers..no issues...I got almost 3.5inches out of it. It had a little camber to begin with but 2 weeks in it seems to be ok. It has settled down to just over 2 3/4 inches now. I'll get an alignment next week.
  23. I'd find and engine. those things have a great 4x4 system with diff locks.
  24. makes me think i should pick up a spare tie rod end.....are they same same left/ right?
